I would agree to all of the above. I put this in Members Only first because I thought I would be only talking to Administration, not to Members! I was in the wrong place again and I do not know what the heck I was thinking! But I have it straight now. With the soul knowledge of SS, the task in the beginning would be daunting but wonderful. You all would be the HUB (central) with a volunteer board. I would think the board would consists of a number of artists, djs, reporters/writers (of the era) and a few members at large. I would ask that the SS administration give us some boundaries because there would be some costs incurred. I would also request that they make the initial recommendations of the Board to begin with. All opinions of what the first SS Hall of Fame should consists of (categories) are welcomed. What year would awards start with? This is so open, we would have to start small and build. We will even have hic-cups along the way, but we will all be forgiving and forge on. I am getting excited again! Lorraine

(This was started in Members Only, but I think it can get more exposure here. I did not know how to move it with the replies. ) Why can't Soul Source have a Hall of Fame? So many artists that you all love and their families would cherish such an honor. This could be done with recognition of a decorative record in a frame and sent to the artist and/or family for whatever recording you recognize. You all know how this goes, yearly, by category, etc. If you find this feasible, I would love to sit on the Board. I have seen the reaction of folks who get recognized for their efforts in this business. They might have at one time wanted the fame and fortune, but now they are so gracious for the acknowledgement and the love. Lorraine

Memorial : Soul People Rip Forum Introduction
lorchand replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
What a wonderful and needed sub-topic. Thank you. Lorraine -
So sorry to hear this. People were looking for him to bring him over there for years, but he always kept to himself. Back in the day, he was hot, hot, hot and so, so fine and oh, so shy. This is why I try so hard to put artists I know in touch with you all so they can hear and see that their music was appreciated and it was not in vain. Sadly, some will never know once they get a page like this. Lorraine

Songs That Really Pull At Your Heart Strings . . .
lorchand replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
MBarrett, What a wonderful, heart wrenching thread! To hear some of these songs again is amazing and to know these folks went through the personal emotion(s) and... SURVIVED to live and tell their innermost feelings through or with soul music. I know some of us thought tomorrow would never come, or I'll never fall in love again, etc. Good intro and thread Lorraine -
If You Had The Chance To Be In A Recording Studio/ What Record
lorchand replied to Rodders22's topic in All About the SOUL
For me, I would have loved to be in the studio when Etta James laid the vocal down to At Last. Lorraine -
If You Had The Chance To Be In A Recording Studio/ What Record
lorchand replied to Rodders22's topic in All About the SOUL
Joan, You would have been jumping! The track alone cooks, but for me is was Eddie, laying down that vocal. Eddie gyrates when he sings. He was all over the place. You had to mike the whole room. However, my personal favorite is Love You Baby. Lorraine -
Mike, I thought we had the discussion, Facebook vs Soul Source site. I was completely suckered in! I was starting to get upset, talking about a monopoly by Facebook, did not want my individual business being shared with the rest of the world, etc. I mentioned it to a couple of people and they agreed that Big Brother was here. Then I decided to link in. Talk about a good one! I have not had the pleasure of a good April Fools joke in a long time. Thanks. Lorraine

If I ever come across the pond again, I hope I have the pleasure to speak to each and everyone of you personally. Yes, I am a romantic and I only have two voices so far that send me to heaven and they are both John's! Mathis and Barrowman just do that to me. SoulStu, thank you for your kind words but it takes people, places and incidents to keep the juices flowing and to stay creative, just in case someone needs another song or production. I'm not dead yet! You all are making this so much fun, even before I get there. I will report back to let you know I survived. Lorraine

Dave, I've been drooling since March 15, when I heard he was coming! I'm like a kid with my special blankey (towel) these days. I'm still so surprise that he is not that popular over there! I had to tell Paul Mooney who he was and I was shocked, just shocked! Barrowman does not know me from Eve and I will be one of the many, but he is responsible for me finding a way to say 'thank you' to you all over there and I love him even more for that. This is another reason I love you all so much, you are so supportive, even through my non-soul times. If a selfie happens, it will be me fainting in his arms! :P Lorraine

You all know I am a Motown, Northern Soul girl from my heart. However, I love all sorts of music when performed well. I'm known to be cool. Cool, calm and composed. I was that at 20 and even more so now. I am the epitamy of coolness. When I first heard I am What I am sung by John Barrowman in front of a 35+ orchestra, I was mesmerized. What a voice! Then he recorded to perfection, I Won't Send Roses and I did not believe my ears. Barrowman is coming to Michigan next month and if you all hear about a mature black woman drooling, in awe, acting like she is twelve, please give me those few precious moments of non-soul dementia . That man's voice thrills my very being and I'll leave it at that. (I could not speak for a week when I attended my first Johnny Mathis concert at 14 ). So...in case you hear some gossip, sordid embarrassing stories about me and maybe JB (and his fine husband!), I plead the fifth, (in the U.S., say nothing to incriminate yourself). Pray for me. :hypocrite: Lorraine

It took me a while, but I could not find a better forum to say, "Thank You" and how much I appreciate you all still supporting me after all these years. Soul Source gives me the opportunity to interact with each of you on a much more personal level than Facebook, which I only use for family interaction. I thank you Mike and the administrators for the upkeep and the perseverance to keep the forum inviting and exciting. As always, I never miss the opportunity to say how I love my family across the pond! Lorraine Chandler

This poll seems to be a little unbalanced. It is like David (Motown) and Goliath (the rest). I'm going with Motown. You are pitting one company against all the others? That shows how mighty it really was/is! I know I am biased but that one company put a city in high beams and spawned so many independent labels it is ridiculous. I will not mention the artists, musicians, producers, songwriters and classic songs it created. Motown actually made careers for so many people (30 years with a paycheck). Motown had to go up against the heavyweights like Atlantic, Chess and other labels who had a head start. Motown also has the heart of a whole generation with all the others sprinkled in. I got a little carried away here and did not answer the question. I'll take Motown's catalog any day. Some of their 'B' sides were hits! You all are right about the technical end improving, bit I still have my 78's, 45's and 33.3's in my closet. To this day, you hear Motown's songs in so many commercials all over the world. Motown has been copied, but never quite duplicated (I do not think). Lorraine

Merry Christmas and have a wonderful and safe New Year! Thank you for still supporting me. It is my honor to be counted as family! Love to you all. Lorraine Chandler

IanP, I know what it is suppose to be, but the 'nome' has a certain sound and I hear that sound! Also, there is that perfection. I do love when the 'drummer' does come in because he kicks it! However, in this case I have no problem in being corrected! Lorraine

I am enjoying hearing all of these wonderful drummers, and I'm not trying to be bad but... ...this is one of my favorite artist and songs and I do not want to take anything away from the wonderful Stax sound but, I always thought this was a metronome for 70% of the song. Lorraine

Two Shoes, I should have first thanked you for posting this piece. Whatever anyone wants to call it, it is OK with me. It surprised me to find it on SS and it is always refreshing to hear it. With Smokey's fame and fortune, it was so wonderful to hear the real him. I do not know him personally, but I know some of his family. I forgot he came from the Northend until I heard the piece. Forgive my language, but the Northend produced no punks, sissys, etc, if you get my drift. This also applied to gay men. They had to be even tougher. You had to know the streets, know how to fight and get out of situations that most people never go through. You would never know that hearing Smokey sing or if you listen to his lyrics. When I hear Smokey speak this piece, you see why he, Berry and some others withstood the test of time. It is inbred in them. Lorraine

Smokey is one of my favorite writers. When I first heard this a few years ago, I was blown away. Smokey is from the 'Northend'. If you were born between 1940-1960 and lived in Detroit, everyone knows where it is and what Smokey is talking about. Smokey spoke to a generation of being proud. We were raised that way because we had to carry the mantle and pass it on to the next generation. It was expected of us. We had to be the example. What they call Rappin' today, to me does not equate to the Rappin' of my time. Some call it poetry, OK, but Smokey is Rappin'. When I heard this, he took me back to 1960 and how the community raised us, and I do mean the community raised us. Adults that you didn't know, knew you and you wondered how your parents knew what you did before you got home and received whatever punishment that you were going to get. Timeouts were not popular back in the day. The only timeout you got was incarceration and our parents did what they had to do so you would not receive the 'timeout' later on. I am not sure if he wrote it or not, but I am positive that he lived it. I absolutely love this piece from Smokey. I have it in my Favorites where it will stay until I RIP. Lorraine

Funk Brothers Tribute / Eddie Willis Fundraiser live in Detroit 16 Nov 2013
lorchand commented on lorchand's article in Event News
SS Family: Today, 09:46 PM #8 drewschultz88 Senior Member Hi Lorraine and BoyFromXTown! I do need to put some thought into the auction to allow folks who can't be there in person to take part. Maybe a live Skype - type group video streaming chat room for that portion? I think that could be doable. Let me do some detective work and look into it! Thomas, Joe does indeed still live in the area, and Eddie has mentioned that he's reaching out. I hope he comes through too, it would be phenomenal to have Eddie, Dennis, and Joe all together! (Drew is talking about Dennis Coffee and Joe Messina. I hope Drew can do this so you all can bid on the items. Stay tuned! ~ Lorraine) -
Funk Brothers Tribute / Eddie Willis Fundraiser live in Detroit 16 Nov 2013
lorchand commented on lorchand's article in Event News
To the SS family, I realize most of us cannot jump on a plane and attend functions of our choice at the drop of a hat, so I just wanted you all to have the opportunity to send your 'flowers' to Eddie Willis while he can appreciate them. I have asked if they can open up the auction worldwide to help Eddie even more. I will keep you posted on this as soon as I receive an answer. Even though it is a fact of life, It is heartbreaking to see so many RIP's of people who were a part of our lives and don't even know it. It pains me to see the RIP's ripping through this and other musical websites every week. Let us honor ourselves and others while we can (that is why I am such a big birthday fan!). Stay tuned for the auction info. Lorraine -

What Would Have Happened If This Had Been A Hit
lorchand replied to Roburt's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Pete S, I will check out the history on Soul Galore Productions and you are right, who issued the license? Could it be that Soussan is totally innocent? Pete, about repenting, some people repent because they have no where else to go or they cannot do what they use to do and get away with it. Soussan got caught by the Internet. He cannot hide anymore and the only thing left to do is repent. Not that Soussan has asked, but if he wants forgiveness, he should first correct his mistakes and confess to his wrong doings. I'm sure SS would print his apology. I want to come to his church ...the thief, the using of my name on the flip side thief... ... the not paying any royalties to this artist thief, to whomever was associated with him are thieves...the thief that stole, then runs and hides under the ministry thief, the thief who has not apologized...he is bad, bad, bad and it is so sad, sad, sad, hopefully he will go to heaven and St. Peter will forgive him... ...Lorraine
