  10. Were obviously from different ends of the scene. Having been into Black American music of the 60's and 70's for 30 years, I find it painful that a play that i put 4 years of my life and soul into, has been hijacked and taken totally out of context. I personally dont find the prospect of 4 white actors and a dodgy house band , playing hits from Wigan, very inspiring. Would you like the dj's to sing the songs to you at events, or would you rather listen to the vinyl? Also, the" pun you like" selling of it? its degrading, tacky and S--te!? Like some nights I guess! Manys the slip twixt the cup and the lip as four kids look for soul satisfaction out on the floor!....I shant go on, you might get aroused! But, really...trite, crass Sh--te. Do you not see an irony in the fact that these artists were exploited and misrepresented all those years ago in the U.S.A and now a bunch of white actors are going to be doing crap versions of their songs in a flimsy pantomime? Wheres the respect? Its not how I would show it! I guess, a certain "weekend soulie" type might go and see it.....thats just a sad fact of life.
  11. on a serious note Paul, you must be sitting there wanting to extract teeth with a sledge hammer, i know i would
  12. Storming Tune!

  14. https://oceancolourscene.com/ocsmedia/webcasts/july.htm This was done years ago! Recognise Drew and Kola, trickster, Steve Cato,Oscar.....others?
  15. https://octagonbolton.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html Go here and read the 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan Live' bit. Very sad, very sh-te and totally disgraceful that an arts venue, in the heart of soul, doesn't even know, or respect its local community or heritage. So tacky and weak. Boycott this. I might even start a petition against it! It says that Wigan was an "escape for kids from Blue collar lives all over the country"!? Whats a 'blue collar' life? I was an apprentice turner! My ignorance, sorry...means working class, im told. Just read it again. Im sorry, but i have to say Mick Martin is a souless C--t! Makes me sick..
  16. When we invite a guest dj, its out of respect for him or her. their own character, soul, contribution to a whole night, enthusiasm....we trust them to come and contribute to the night. We NEVER tell them what to play! We wouldn't have invited them unless we wanted to hear what they may have. We want to be suprised and excited by new tunes....people mainly stick to 60s and 70s, but we dont specify genres or period. If they felt that something might fit, then they should try it. We also, usually invite people who have attended as punters and know the score....unless they live 100s of miles away. But people like Steve green, John Weston, North East lads, will travel 100s of miles for to support good 'soul' venues.
  17. GREAT POST MATE.
  18. Absolute tosh with £1.85 for a regular cup of shite coffee to boot! Thats discraceful! Even booting the Coffee......Winstanley has no boundaries for bad taste! (like your coffee!)
  19. Unfortunately some of the people who attend our venue cannot seem to grasp the music policy. There is a certain group who constantly harass the DJs to play overplayed oldies and one or two have given in to them and strayed from the desired music policy. Our last event took place on Saturday 23rd. February and started off really well----a good mix of across the board sounds which is what we state in our advertising. Unfortunately the aforementioned group attended the venue and started requesting sounds that are not appropriate to our policy. This led to the guest DJs playing tunes that were inappropriate to the night and resulted in a bit of ill feeling. Possibly I was wrong but I went on stage, took the mike and had words regarding the music and if people didn't like it they could always attend a number of other venues in the local area that will cater for their tastes. A group of people took offence and left the venue---never to return, I hope. I always find telling them to "F--k Off works well!
