I agree. But, I think a big part of it is location. Its pretty easy to get a younger crowd into a night in Manchester or Cambridge etc. But at the moment, a lot of 'soul' events are in the middle of nowhere!! No matter how many flyers you put out, a young person is very rarely going to take a punt on an event in a village, in the middle of Yorkshire!

It is harder on Japanese. I sold one on French Coral(picture sleeve) a while back for £400!

Are you saying the 'Flying Pickett' version of 'I Really love you' or 'Id Think It Over' portrays the 'Wigan' experience for you and moves your soul....well, Fair enough mate.....we obviously had two very different experiences at the time....I went for the music!

UH! The Casino didn't have a cover band doing the music did it? With the lead singer of the flying picketts doing lead vocals. As far as I remember, it was about original 60's artists not covers with the same singer doing every song!? How can you say that this piece of pap can give anyone, kids or otherwise, a taste of what it was like...It wasn't a sad ba-tard, nostalgia cover band event when I went to Wigan! Only a Casino tourist type could ever say something like that. What utter rubbish! Were you EVER into the music in the first place? Or did you just POP your head in!

They all sound a bit shite. I had one, you have to turn the treble down when you dj it!

Its a great dream event! I loved the Palais and the Brit! Just think everyone would be moaning about different things, like music and dj's. The residents at the time were at the forefront of it all, new and exciting tunes each month. Would it be the same now? Im not really into the nostalgia tune thing cos its everywhere and dominating the scene. But, if it was a Palais reunion done in the same pioneering musical spirit as back in the day, then yes, im in. p.s. Shane would do a great film......be very dark though!ha!

Just think of all those soul people in one place like they used to do every month on a sunday afternoon dancin their little hearts out Let the memory rest in peace. As a Grantham lad, i spent a lot of time at the Palais in the 70's...loved every minute of it! Went back in the mid 80's and it was sh-te! Dont think there is a large enough crowd to support an event like that...too disperate nowadays!

I have one, its a bit battered on the intro, but perks up. It is a fairly hard tune to find nowadays. paul

Ive been playing it out the last 6 years. But knew it off the funk scene. Its on a fad run, like the mediocre 'Stanky' which is really only a £20 record. Vocal side is the only side!!

Hope to see you out and about still. At least you can enjoy it without ALL the worry and stress now!

For someone so vociferous about many things thats rich Pete. I just asked for people to stop referring to it as the same play, its nothing to do with it. Also, I have every right to express my horror at so called lovers of 'soul' music championing the 'Flying Pickets' cover versions of tunes we fought hard to champion and cherish. I am utterly bemused and shocked at some of the flimsy musical tastes that have been surfacing lately. Perhaps ther should be a pseudo - Soul Source page for these lovers of the modern cover, middle of the road band, version. Enough people were quick to slag 'Duffy' on this site, but the 'Flying Pickets'..."fine, good, great"....im sorry, but to me, thats f--king unbelievable!

PLease, stop referring to the original. ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT! The Original had Original music and Original film footage from the Casino as the backdrop for the play! It had Original thought and creativity. Original clothes (no designer stubble! ) made by the Original old lady who made them back in the day! It was NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS RUBBISH! People were moved by it, it wasn't 'happy clappy' with a cover band starring the Flying Picketts lead singer! It brought a tear of recognition to many peoples eyes. People who lost friends, jobs, direction, relationships, youth. It also made people smile and laugh out loud at the recognition of those beautiful, unforgettable moments at the Casino, when those 'RECORDS' came on and you hit that floor and escaped for a few hours! Ive continued to listen to 'Soul' ALL my life, so I dont get moved by, or even recognise a memory created by a COVER BAND!? It makes me wonder if some people even listened to, or felt it in the first place. If they did and it was 'real' then NOTHING could replace it. Certainly not the 'Flying Pickets' and some second rate west end musicians murdering the Tomangoes!
