People as you are aware, are very passionate regarding the music and artists, and I think you have, hopefully, answered their questions honestly. Bit naieve!! The movie business is NEVER honest....it has one objective. To spend as little money as possible in order to make as much money as possible. Im sure the actors are being paid? Or the extras could, as a group, be put on a points system (well known in film business), say 3% and then if the film makes money, they at least get something for their hard work...as it is they are getting a big fat NOTHING! Even 1%? How about it IPSO?

No, I just grew up! The music I like now makes me dance and listen in a different way..... and I try to respond to that. I still teach Capoeira (have done for 20 years), I leave the flips and acro for that. Think it looks shite as people get older! Nowadays, I cant tell if someone has slipped, pulled something or their doing floorwork But , each to his own.....

No they are NOT paying them Paul. This is on their advert - and I quote: "Please note, there are no fees for extras or dancers. We will make a contribution to your travel." Taking the p-ss , I feel. WHY would you want to go and be an extra in this, if your just a fuzzed out blob in the distant background. Why dont they put on a nighter, pay EVERYONE who comes a fee (say £80, the going rate for extras) and film that? They want soulies to turn up gratis and supply a crowd and an atmosphere for NOWT! Seems like exploitation. .....blacksploitation....soulsploitation..... take your, sploitation, pick.

Wow, just watched the part one film site interviews! Jeff,the writer, says Winstanleys book is Factual! Russ, didn't have a clue what went on on the dance floor, in the toilets, outside, in the car etc and thats reflected in his book! So if they are basing it on those facts were in for a stinker! Also, and I dont mean to be rude, the male actors seem a little camp to be portraying the people I knew at that time...apprentices, miners, builders etc. But then, i guess thats why they are actors eh! The director seems to think the 'This England Documentary' has amazing dancers on it! I hope he has some other references or the standard of dancing will be way off what it truly was!

ARE YOU PAYING THEM? if they are being used just to make up numbers and their faces dont feature, WHY woulfd they want to do it? No money, no exposure? Whats the incentive? You can hire extras from one of the agencies surely?

Lee and ALL the actors went to loads of soul events aswell as dancing solidly for at least 3/4 hours a day in the 6 week rehearsals and doing intensive stretching! They immersed themselves in it for the whole time they were on tour, even going out to events while touring! Im involved in other stuff at the moment, that involves directing and choreography.....and a methodology!

And most younger people on the scene don't dance right...they may be good dancers but they don't dance in the right style and that's males and females. And if they think they can teach people to dance right in a short period of time than I think they may be fooling themselves... professional dancers maybe , but for a normal person I would imagine the style is quite tricky to pick up? For gawd's sake I tried to learn how to spin for 20 years until I finally gave up Also even older people don't generally dance like they did at Wigan now in the main do they Paul? True, as people have got older the dancing has changed and NO amount of dvd watching of old footage is going to inform a young choreographer or dancer about the style and level of dancing that took place then! Its certainly a conundrum and involves a lot of work and experience of the time in question.I had to deal with it with 'Once Upon A Time', which I now hear is being made into a film (a third one! ) by the dynamic and clueless couple, Prick Martin and Puss Winstanley.....cant wait!

I think that they would struggle finding 100 teenagers who can do the dancing etc never mind 1000! Even a lot of the so called youngsters who post on here are late 20s. They'll probably use the older folks for the darker dancing scenes as I would imagine the more authentic dancers are older on the whole. Look at Keb in the Mercy video-he was the best by far and how old is he? That Moloko video with Paddy Considine had quite a lot of older people in it too

I saw the original script for this over two years ago and the nearest it got to a soul record was Kim Weston. It was like story that could have taken place anywhere, but they were squeezing it into the 'Northern Soul' box. Maybe its had a re-write and a re think. I also read that Mick Martin was the writer, but the guy on here says he is? Or is that a different film?
