So, back to now, much as I ABSOLUTELY love all this old time reminiscing. There is so much talk on Soul Source about attracting new people to the scene and records getting stale etc. Yet here are the 'old fellas' putting in 40 odd pages of 'the way we were'....very exciting stuff im sure . In fact, I was there, but choose to get more excited about TODAY and TOMORROW! Both of which have absolutely NOTHING to do with the 'EMPOROR' and this ''New Clothes' tribute thread. so please....let it go. If you want to get back into or more aptly 'ON TO' the scene, its simple Ian, stop the talking and do the walking. Get out and show us how much you love it. Stop all this arm chair reminiscing and back slapping. I mean, you old guys are kinda cute, with your comparisons and memories. But, you have already tortured us with them via video and dvd. SO, we dont, as Gil Scott Heron put it, "need no re-run". This thread is the soul source equivalent of 'Last Of The Summer Wine'.....you can decide whos who, but can we please make it the LAST SERIES. Many Thanks A Very Bored Viewer. -

AS a business man, on the soul scene and selling soul (loose term obviously), your CV has EVERYTHING to do with this forum. We need to be aware of your motives, as a business man and as a person. If you did not sell cds, dvds etc, then YES, it would be irrelivent. Im not saying I know what motives are, but if you post your cv on other sites, why with hold it from this one. Are you ashamed of it? I dont think so, why should you be? Im not ashamed of my cv and indeed , I made it available when I was doing the play. Also, you say you are appalled and sad....well sorry, I was appalled and angry, when you attacked one of my close and very 'soulful' friends on here. So grab a seat, have a cry and get over it. I see you like to 'give' but not 'take'. -

Then dropped out Manchester University in 1971, 'I had no interest' POST REMOVED, CENSORSHIP Yesterday, I posted Mr Levines cv, that he actually wrote for his website, which, I think its fair to say, is a tool for promoting himself. I am reposting it (without comment!), as I think you can draw some interesting conclusions from it. But I will leave that to you. I also think that SS is being bullied and in some ways , manipulated by Mr L, as I wrote nothing libelous or untrue in my comments. It is ridiculous that Mr L asks for posts to be removed that he does not agree with......its only positive comments he wants folks, so let the congratulations continue. I would NEVER ask for ANYTHING to be removed that was written about myself. I have NOTHING TO HIDE OR BE ASHAMED OF. . There is nothing like good, honest, truthful, debate and this thread IS nothing like good, truthful, honest debate. I trust this is positive enough for you to leave on Mike? Let the self promotion continue. Thanks Paul-S. -

Also with respect. It may not be synonymous with the term Northern Soul to you, who are without doubt one of the cognoscenti. It is however synonymous with Northern Soul to the general public who recognise a certain "sound" as being a Northern Soul sound. Ian has captured that "sound". Like it or not. Were talking semantics then are we? In terms of the quality of the videos. The SWONS artist clips were not filmed in studio conditions and the backgrounds were often unsuitable. To deal with that the video effects that you so dislike were added. They are not to everyone's taste, and could have been better in many cases. But they are probasbly better than Jo Armsteads kitchen etc. YES Jo Armsteads kitchen would have been a lot better. The effects look like a small child has discovered the wonders of the Woolworths home video editing kit and decided to slap it on everything! Absolutely atrocious and very, very cheap. -

You wouldn't know them would you.. You haven't been out for years and you haven't been a part of this scene since you declared it was dead in the early 80's and moved on to create ALL that pop sh--te......poor old has been Its definitely your 'weakspot'. You see this thread is neccessary because unless YOU and your cronies (one of whom felt it neccessary to send James a threat on facebook! Dickhead!) remind us of your so called contribution, we ALL forget and thats because we dont give a f--k. Its irrelevent. While you were declaring the scene dead and popping out crap records, the rest of us were continuing and developing the scene WE HAVE ALWAYS LOVED. You 'pop' up every now and again on here when you smell an easy dollar and expect me to show you respect. Well, you dont deserve it mate. As, I said your an opportunist and NOTHING to do with 'soul'. You may be something to do with vinyl, im not arguing that. BUT, although wide in girth, your shallow in 'soul' and that is a FACT. You even have to ask someone elses opinion (smithy) of whether a record is good because you dont know it. Lets hope he gets out enough or your truly f--ked for opinions! How about getting out to hear whats going on yourself.Sad! Tell the threatening fool to feel free to use my facebook.... -

Whether Columbus discovered much is very much open question. He thought he was in Japan for a start & didn't actually reach the continent. That accolade goes to John Cabot, an Italian navigator sponsored by Henry VII. As far as it being fecked up, Costa Rica, Chile & Argentina are very nice places indeed. Now thats a proper thread, Ive learnt something of socio/historic importance. Unlike the previous drivel. Thanks Macca -

Theres a difference here, do you mean discovered, as in a warehouse, or broken, as in consistently persevered with for a few years until people get around to listening. I remember Levine throwing things on the deck in a thirst to be the FIRST!(he had the money to!) But, I remember more the people who actually stuck with and broke records onto the scene. I 'listened' to Mecca stuff, dont now! So you can feel as dubious as you want mate! Wasn't aware that Levine was the only one playing new stuff there? Were there not other dj's of any note? Its like saying Winstanley was responsible for ALL the wigan tunes. THATS DUBIOUS?! If you want tunes ive stuck with and helped break or remind people of, heres a few. I would never say I discovered anything, as there is always someone who heard it before you. Only the Ian 'Ravine' would make such claims. Jonathon Capree - Gonna Build Me A Mountain Sitty & James - (covered as Gwen & Ray) Frontiersman of the galaxy - James Monroe Ghetto Love - Bethea the Maskman Early Clover & the Georgia Soul Drifters - Think It Over Kool Blues - Can We Try Love Paul Burton - So Very Hard To Make It Soul Injection - Stay Of The Moon Leonard Adair - That Smile Upon Your Face Little Sampson - Dont Take Your Love From me Unless you play tunes out and about, believe in them and dance to them, it matters not a f--k who discovered it. Columbus discovered lots of stuff and now its ALL f--ked up. -

Pete, Leveine came on here slagging people off, including one off the most honest and soulful people on this scene (because she had nailed the film for what it is!) So forgive me if I decide to give the clown some of his own medicine....'Souled Out' have odviously engaged him to make a comeback on their behalf. They obviously thought he was a part of the scene. BUT he is not...hes a relic, crumbling and in need of repair! Sorry, but thats how it is. This thread is a pile of self promoting, backward, halcion day, trite, conceited drivel! Lets move on and lets move on without this dead weight dragging our soulful feet through his muddy past. He hasnt discovered F--k all that I listen too, so hearing him bang on about the good old days is just toooooooo boring. As I said earlier, the discovery of a record doesnt justify a mans existence on the scene! Its their contribution to the week in week out effort of going out and socialising, dancing, adding to the atmosphere of the events, without which dj's wouldn't exist, that marks their humanity and 'soul'. This self congratulating fool only seems to suck the atmosphere from the scene and certainly shows no visible signs of humanity or soul. If you dont see the connection between a person and the music and the need to comment on both, when faced with such outrageous self promotion, then you should at least allow the ones that do, to comment. I certainly see the connection. -

....still amazed this thread is going. The scene needs to move on a bit not dwell on an old has-been (never was in my eyes!) who delivered some of the worst, vacuous, badly produced rubbish known to man! He seems to avoid any question that doesn't massage his ego..(James asked pertinent questions, but got no answers?). Im sick to death of hearing from people who once were on the scene and then bang on about HOW it was and how great they WERE. I dont see Levine out and about, at venues, supporting the scene, adding to the atmosphere, dancing, chatting, sharing some 'soul' time. Things have changed and moved on and will keep doing so and unless you are out there experiencing it moment by moment, doing the miles and getting to venues, please just shut up. You are irrelevent to the PRESENT experience. YES, I know my history and realise the people who contributed to where we are now (between a rock and a hard place! ). I, as a punter and collector am one of them! As is every other punter. But. as I said earlier, I have never liked Mr L's giant ego and have never liked his taste in music much either. The discovery of a few or even many, records, is not justification enough for his unctuous, self centred ramblings. He is the scenes equivilent of Jimmy Saville and now he is after his Knighthood....
