  1. "I am definitely NOT involved in making a film about 'Northern Soul'. That, I think is an impossible feat. So, your not right in saying that." But a play is?? Ask those who saw it.? I dont know...seemed to. It worked for me. Mainly because it used Wigan footage and the dancers did there homework, the script was accurate and based on fact. Also, theatre leaves room for the audiences imagination to fill in gaps and create the atmosphere. But, being a luvvie, I guess you know that.
  2. Paul, you've lost the plot mate. Your venom and bile on this thread is unbelievable. The film is a fictional drama, not a documentary. I'm nothing to do with the film, but will watch it out of interest in case it's any good. Ian Levine's nothing to do with the film, so I don't know why you keep trying to goad him as well as others on this thread. If the film's crap and inaccurate then so be it, but let's give it a chance and not forget it is a fictional drama and not a documentary or reconstruction of an historical event. If people have got involved (like Paul and Paul) then good luck to them. They're good lads who are well into the music, end of. If the production team treated the extras poorly then that's obviously pish poor. You just come across as deeply mean spirited and spiteful. Stop goading people. If you think it's going to be a pile of trash, don't go and watch it. I also don't know why you keep goading the production team as if they should be on here every day to rebut your constant snipes and insults. If others on here had written some of the personal insults you've dished out today they'd have been chucked off the site by now. All a bit sad and unnecessary in my book. Rich You need to broaden your reading then mate. I have NOT slagged anyone. I called them 'stunt' dancers, a technical term. They , then got a bit prissy and rude. WHERE did I slag them off, before they came on with the "were young" bit? So, please read the whole f--king thread, before you start your "offended from the suberbs speech". The production team WERE ON HERE EVERY DAY, when they wanted something for nothing. Just to point out how stupid and ridiculous your reply is, can I remind you, although its a fictional drama, its set in an HISTORICAL SETTING..DUH! . Its getting tedious answering idiots who neglect ALL the facts. WHY are they re creating (their words not mine) Wigan? If its not historical? Why is it not in a fictitious club? WHY were they looking for locations where they could recreate Wigan? Why did they want Wigan memorabilia? Really mate, get a grip on articulation. You are the bilious one, as you can only answer through your bigoted view of me. Sit in silence and let CRAP happen around yourself, but dont expect me to dis-engage with life and my surroundings and let fools talk utter rubbish. Insulting? You are the insulting one. At least come to me with an adult, informed and articulated view,.
  3. A bit premature there Pete (always been your problem ). Maybe wait for my reply?? See HOW the hypocrites on here like to steam in on the whisper of a rumour when its about me. My questions about 'SOULED OUT' are based on fact...TRUST ME (to quote a rimmerism!) Not rumour.
  4. Hi Paul Im I right in saying you yourself are involved in some capacity in making a film ,northern soul based at the mo I am definitely NOT involved in making a film about 'Northern Soul'. That, I think is an impossible feat. So, your not right in saying that. cheers Paul
  5. Thing is though... would you get a plumber making a film about cooking in a top notch resturaunt or a political activist / suicide bomber maiking a film on the Nobel Peace Prize...? So why are some usless tossers who think 'Duffy' is the epitome of northern soul doing a film about something as sensative as Wigan Casino.... Did their mam sing 'love bandit' or some other light ditty to them as she rocked them to sleep before dropping them on their heads.... Hang on though... just had a thought thingie... wouldn't all this debate and bitching just create more interest for the film.. and wouldn't it make more money for the backers.... jeeze me finks we shud just ignore the whole fing and pretend it doesn't exist...... very true mate......i was just trying to pick up all the childrens dummies. Finished now, I hope. Paul B, is probably off filming 'The Nicholas Brothers Story' (if hes heard of them! ) Its a new film about their life and incredible dancing, but, without the dancing, cos, " who gives a f--k if its not what they did, no one cares". This guys could rip through the entire history of dance without doing ANY research or altering a step. NOW thats arrogant
  6. Well if you are claiming to be highly developed thank God I'm still dragging my knuckles Ive seen the marks you left on the dusty floors of soul venues. ..... But, as usual, you come on, make a general uninformed comment /dig and then when confronted with your inherent ignorance, you avoid ALL the points made. Top stuff

  10. Sounds like the dummies firmly out the pram! The talk about young people on the scene ruining it is limited to one or two people and the odd post - it's not something I see regularly. If you don't want to play with us anymore we'll understand. F--king hell. When you get older and do a bit more you will realise that 'stunt dancer' is actually a term used ....wait for it children......in dance!! For people who do the specialist dancing in films , theatre. So pick YOUR dummies up my little saplings, get some sun , grow a bit, look and listen when you cross the road and you should get wiser and a little less up your own......

  12. I agree with what Steve has said here .... honesty trust and friendship has played a major part in this scene of ours since I first got into it, and thats how it is for me years later, backstabbers dont get a place behind my decks and I certainly wouldnt part with any money going to a venue to see em, regardless of tracks.... when someone for example has the same record 40 miles up the road. Dawn x Well said Sister Dawn.
  13. No, don't know who he is, the only one I know is the costume chap, and I only heard from him yesterday cos he wanted to know how to get audio tracks off a dvd I did him onto an ipod Yes. yes Pete....He wanted your wardrobe more like p.s. Levine came on here slagging people off for being negative about the film. That would indicate he knows more than us? Cos, on the face of it, it looks like a pile of S--te!
  14. Unless you're Fatboy Slim I don't think any DJ is comfortable enough to turn down money...besides...it's not him you're playing for...it's the people through the door...just take his cash and make sure you request a big rider hahaha Does that mean you do it for money then....like a 'soul' mercinary?
  15. What about the reverse. A dick head promoter booking you for his club? Someone who doesn't give a flying f--k about you or your music, but thinks or has been told (not even heard you!) that you are flavour of the month?! Would you do it?
  16. I think it's admirable to set a professional stance, and possibly one of the reasons why venues like the "100 club" have achieved such longevity, Des Parker Is that place still going then!!!
  17. seems like there is 30/40 years of grudges between people on here... 60/70 year old grudges KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE D.D.A.
  18. Hello, Thought I'd pop on to see how everyone was doing on this forum, and to see where the latest debate was up to. A bit surprised to find this thread! So just to update everyone, we finished shooting on Sept 26th, and every scene is in the can. No cast members walked off. The Birmingham shoot went really well too. The production team is having a bit of down-time, as everyone seems to have developed Stoke flu. A massive thank you to everyone who took part in either advising on, or participating in the film, the rushes look amazing! Production stills about to go on the website. In Soul x wow, thats a coincidence that you popped on and were suprised by the thread. I thought someone would at least have told you the debate. Anyway, glad its ALL going well. Whens it due out? Yours in shoes x
  19. ANYONE? seems to have gone very quiet??
  20. i'm not usually up that side of town...in fact DJing wise I rarely stray out of the Northern Quarter How gauche.....

  22. I took my youngest son to this just last Monday, he'd had a call about being an extra, so being a winner of N/S dancing contests of we went. Phew, sat, walked, and frouned my way through the day up until 3.20am when filming stopped and then back Tuesday for a session from 1pm through till midnight. Being able to walk round the set was great, seeing all that activity and folks doing specific jobs but as time went by it became more and more obvious that the homework hadn't been done to any great extent. Talking on the set with a member of the crew on the Monday night I was told by this person that they "only knew two things about N/S, one that there was loads of fights and two there wasn't any drugs". It was obvious from the scenes I saw being filmed that that was exactly what everybody else thought. Most of the extras were teenagers either from agencys or from Stoke and surronding areas who quite clearly had not been given any real idea as to how you dance to northern and this again was reflected in the scenes, some of which made me cringe. Ok I know you have to have a story, and there was a lot of energy in the dance scenes mainly, and thankfully because they chose not to use (on this occasion anyway)balding fat blokes who still think they can dance the way they did back then. We finally left, his choice, half way through the Tuesday session because he had become cheesed of with the whole experiance, thankfully it hasn't put him of and he'll be at Prestatyn with us. Ill still go and see the film because these things can seem a little strange while in the process of filming, but it will not be with any real expectation about how it represents something I was involved in as a teenager. Chris AS I said on an earlier thread when 'Souled Out' were actually replying I read the script 3 years ago and it was appalling, full of fights and only had ONE reference to soul in the form of a Kim Weston record! . Obviously with the 60's Whinehouse. Ronson, Duffy revival, people are trying to push crap scripts into a 'soul' setting....thats how they convince financiers that there is a market for them..The 'souled Out' script , when I read it, had NOTHING to do with the Northern Soul scene....It had two fights in the first few pages!! Square peg in a round hole syndrome im afraid. It seems ALL those who doubted the film were slagged of by the mercinary, 15 seconds of fame brigade as negative and small minded. BUT NOW, they are no where to be heard or seen?? Where is the update? 'Souled Out' producers? Levine?, Stunt Dancers Liam , Paul etc...Does ANYONE know whats going on or what they gave their time and memories to ? Or was the driving force just the desire to see themselves paid or on film? Maybe ego's rather than thought and care prevailed on this occasion? Just a question....
  23. as far as sitting around all day goes my brothers girlfriend is an extra for the bbc and has done work on major films too and shes says theres lots of sitting around in every production so im not surprised youngsters are getting bored.....period mistakes ? its bound to have lots almost every film made..even big budget They get paid....
