  1. Good post Paul...I sort of get the reasoning behind it now...but you've gone and let the cat out of the bag hey, im saying that it works for us ( a small soul room). Each venue has to decide for itself what works best and develop that! Dont think there can be only one way of doing it. Just saying that half hour sets require as much involvement , soul and musical inspiration as 1, 2 ,3 hour sets etc. I dont think one is easier or harder than the other.
  2. SOULIES WITH HAIR BAZ A would that have many in Baz?
  3. Seems to be a trend to advertise nights under THE MOST WELL ATTENDED NIGHTER or THE LONGEST RUNNING NIGHTER or THE BIGGEST IN THE WORLD Is any of it really relevent? The number off people in a room, or if an event has been held a million times doesn't really guarantee a good night, they are merely historical facts. Im just wondering, in this race to out do each other, what other titles they could come up with?
  4. Fook me Joan that's a really short time! Does that not piss off your guest DJs? That's only a handful of records...might as well play one on one off On the contrary, it means they cant f--k off and not listen and pay attention to whats going on in the room. They have to stay connected to the night and particularly the music. I NEVER know what im going to play at DDA because i have to listen to whats going on that night....what the guests and other residents are playing. If i have a pre planned set, it may be like driving a square peg into a round hole and f--k the nights flow up. We also dont have guests rolling in just before their spot and leaving after. Its a WHOLE NIGHT and not an individual platform. The half hour spots means there are no egos in terms of "I must be on at the peak time" and also ALL the djs have to actually contribute to the night by listening aswell as playing. At a lot of events I go to, its as if the dj's are ALL seperate entities and not working together at all. As Joan said , it works very well for us and in the same way that people are saying that 2 hours is the real test, believe me, half hour spots have to be very well chosen and felt and require total committment to the night. A test in itself.

  17. Phil, see above post. There are some awesome records played by Baggy DJs and obsessed about by Baggy fans. But that's not why a Baggy Northerner likes them. It's not about the records, as such, Baggy is a frame of mind, a way of life. They don't care abut the quality of the records, just that they are Baggy. Agree James. Philly has had the BAGGY hammering to the extent that it no longer registers to my ears.....it is im afraid a BAGGY classic. Yeh,Yeh,Yeh,Yeh,Yeh,Yeh,Yeh!
  18. If you look closely Liam knocks POG over. Right on his arse. Just what he deserves if you ask me. 2 arses together! What really makes me smile, is how we just had a thread where people (stunt dancers!) were banging on about how it takes years to learn to dance to Northern Soul Thats obviously not the reply Liam gave to the POG show when they asked him to teach them...15 seconds of fame became 15 secs of shame for the young mercinary of soul....dread to think where the young guns (or is it puns!) will pop up next.... After the 'Duffy' video, they advertised their night with "featuring the dancers from the Duffy video". What now..."featuring the dancers from the Paul O'Grady show'. They certainly are a cool bunch of guys!
  19. The MOST UNCOOL thing I have ever SCENE. Liam 'the jimmy cranky of dance' ski-ing in the snow with the ,'dads Army reserves' and not realising the viewers are laughing at them and not with them, See Jaime Winston try to run as L tries to get her to dance at the end...... one of the few times i have been absolutely shocked by something....lets hope the films as good
  20. F--king embarrassing. Cannot believe the ones who mouth off on here about the scene and respect, soul etc, go and PARODY themselves on a shit show. What next Richard and Judy? Russ...jesus.....what a sad t--t! I doubt any of us imagined this wonderful tv tribute back in the day. Liam and the stunt dancers are the new 'Wigans Chosen Few'......its the future. A very warhol moment for ALL involved im sure.......few bits of silver thrown in too Sandy saying breaking came from Northern soul dancing!? What rubbish... Its like watching your grandparents going on about the war....sad, bad and absolutely f--king mad!...
