  1. Got a battered (but plays great, ive djed with it!) copy of Nobody Loves Me Like My Baby £50
  2. Papa Bear has been hammered for 3 years or so now. I think overplayed rarities is a good term for a lot of whats going on! Personally, I think great tunes should be looked after and not played into extinction...but im not a jobbing dj being pestered with requests!
  3. is it getting a few spins now?
  4. ..music. .....that has 'soul', truth and meaning.
  5. Why should he bother coming on here, hes too busy finding and playing music to waste time discussing the semantics of categorisation....I would imagine
  6. Dont know why its covered up, its been around a while.... i aint talking though.
  7. totally agree with most of that if not all especially the bit about Pete`s play box you summed it up really and especially the highlighted bit, elements of funk but not out and out Funk and thats what this thread is all about, out and out funk at a northern nighter, ie the 100 Club, unless of course its not just a Northern night i know it 6ts but now im confused what its music policy really is Ady This thread is about 1 track that was played on Saturday! Its ridiculous to be so closed minded as to not tolerate 1 track that was thought by some, who have a mis informed opinion of musical genres, to be 'Deep Funk'. Also, it didn't clear the floor. I was under the impression that 100 club was a rare soul venue? Is it really an oldies venue?
  8. what a load of 'Frankie Crocker'! You 'Kindly Shepperds' should look at whats been played on the Northern Scene over the years!
  9. Wish I could Pete....sort it out and ill go. But, as i said ther are loads of examples of 'funk played over the years on the Northern scene! I hate the shite pop thats always gone hand in hand with Northern...to me its NOT northern, just shite pop...take Levines stuff as an example! But some call it Northern! Kiki f--king Dee, Camp, Johnny Vanelli, Harry Betts, Esperanto....your play box Pete Fact is the Northern Scene doesnt hold a singular definition. Its idiosyncratic and has always contained elements of funk, from Wigan through to the Mecca and beyond! Its only the musical bigots and those with closed ears that forget that.
  10. Thats exactly how it should be ....the uk thing is fucked up because of peoples dogma, categorising and imposing of rules. Ghetto Kitty, Beginning of the end, Francine Mcgee etc have all enjoyed success on the so called 'Northern Scene' back in the day. Its since then that people have become bitter and deaf. Norway sounds great....keep it up!
  11. That is not a good tune...horrible.
  12. BUTCH did a great set, no deep funk, it was soulful funk and soul. There is a big difference! Top stuff. Better than All the worn out oldies I heard on Saturday like 'sweet memories', Papa Bear etc...battered to death tunes!
  13. Ha! thanks Ken! Still obviousy recovering from saturday
  14. I was there from the kick off and didn't hear one 'deep funk' choppy changy track? I did hear some terrible battered oldies at points. But thats the nature of the night, a bit of something for everyone. Jo Jos is a deep funk venue, its a different genre and none of the 100 club tracks fell into it. There were tracks that were not 4/4 northern soul, if thats what you mean?
  15. Thought Marco and Butch did great spots at 100 club! Best of the night. So, it must be Keith, Mick or Adey?
  16. Hi, whats this sell for now and whats JMs book price . Help appreciated (selling mine) best paul

  18. Why did you then put the B side first, when the A side is simply the best Northern Soul record I have ever produced in my life ???? I was really not expecting much, but my god! This is bad on both sides. Dire in fact. Clumping soul that highlights the fact that you left the scene in 1980 and missed the hundreds of great, soulful, subtle, well produced records that djs carried on discovering after that. Its the sort of thing a 16 year old may have danced to at Wigan on his first visit, until he grew up and discovered 'soul'. Its got the tinny production quality of 'Duffys' truly atrocious 'rain on your parade'. If thats one of the greatest Northern soul records, you really need to do some catching up and take some time out to listen to whats been going on on the scene during your sojourn into the pop industry. This even falls short of the 'Poptastic' category.....a howler!
  19. GENTS and NATURAL R Gone....
  20. exactly! That was my reaction! but it turned to this then I put the ear muffs on !!
  21. pmd you.
