  1. I want to hear the music flow. Not some 'SMASHEY & NICEY' type telling me how good and rare a tune is! If i want to know, i will go and look or ask. That promotes a better interaction between dj and punter. Also, lets be honest, the sound sytems at 98% of Northern Soul events are appalling...massive hall and two tiny speakers on the stage, as if surround sound or modern equiptment didn't exist. So, the day this improves and we can actually understand what a dj is saying, maybe i will listen...unless of course they are actually saying "argh, yah, eeeeeee, trust, laootyy, me, rare, klau, doogs, arhyy bollocks!!!"
  2. APPEAL Please DO NOT HELP these souless w--kers. They already tried to ruin the original play with the 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan LIVE' , blue eyed musical they did at Bolton Octagon. Russ is only ever interested in making a fast buck and as we all know, wouldn't know a good tune if it landed on his head. And he is, apparently, the musical adviser for the project. He is a tacky 'smashy & Nicey' DJ whos totally poptastic......SO AVOID THIS TERRIBLE PROJECT AT ALL COSTS. Mick Martin was NEVER on the scene and knows NOTHING about it. He too, is just after a quick buck and neither of these fools should be trusted with making a film about the scene. Here are examples of what this dynamic duo will do for money and fame! 'This story of love, sex and rock’n’roll is a revamped version of Mick Martin’s original piece, which has already been seen on two previous occasions. Recommissioned by the Octagon, Martin’s brief was to include live music, and Howard Gray and his great band, with terrific vocals from ex-Flying Picket Paul Kissaun, do justice to the nostalgic sound of northern soul.' so, if briefed, Martin will do anything and another classic addition 'Set in September 1981 on the last night of the Wigan Casino’s famous all-nighters, Richard Foxton has designed a suitably tatty, two-tiered set with the band playing above and the dancing performed below.' and 'Although there are still references to the drug scene, which ultimately caused the closure of the casino, the original addiction scenes and the deterioration of their relationships - which gave the show a harder edge - have gone.' Russ's rose tinted and uninformed view of the Casino striking again. Changing history and the original play!! Both of these fools careers have been plodding along, lack lustre and devoid of any talent, so they are trying to bastardise this play! I personally dont remember the flying picketts singing the tunes from the balcony at Wigan... 'Directed by Mark Babych, this entertaining production may have lost the raw energy of the original' Yep! Its losing its energy by the second with these soul sucking baboons! So, if approached, for the sake of honesty and 'soul'...tell them to f--k off! Thanks If they REALLY are doing 'their own thing', why use the title of my hit production 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan'? Why did i have to get Bolton to stop using the quotes about my production? Why did i have to ask Russ to take a mis-representing claim off his site about my production? Why are they trying to cash in on the success of my production, if they are so inovative and independent? Call it something else! Then they could truly claim it was their idea!
  3. I pointed out that what he put was mis-leading lies and that he was musical consultant on 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan LIVE', the horrendous BOLTON OCTAGON rip off of the play that featured no original music, just a blue eyed band doing covers! I was the musical director and director/deviser on the play that toured and was about vinyl addiction called 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan'. that featured original tracks by the original artists and used the lyrical content as a narrative. These guys, as did Bolton, are deliberately trying to confuse the two plays. Because they are trying to raise finance for a shit film version of their musical i guess.....the Bolton thing was a dire flop and my play was a success, so they are probably telling potential financiers that they did my play, not the shit one. Utter lies of course....dont think Russ knows what original vinyl looks like... He said he would alter what he wrote accordingly. SO, if anyone sees anymore of Russ's mis-representation, please let me know...thanks paul-s

  7. Everytime i try to pm on this site it freezes. can you PM me and ill reply? would really like some help. Mike, if your reading, why cant i pm by clicking on icon under members name?
  8. Was my idea, and it was written via the scenes that i set up in rehearsal. As i had been close friends with Mick for over 20 years we had a verbal agreement that i would have an artistic say in its future and i contracted him to write it (after we had done 6 weeks in rehaersal improvising it.) via his agent. Things like him using my stage directions and musical scoring in his script, i have let go (for now) . But, after taking advice, i do have an intellectual proprty rights claim that would certainly halt any film or at least make investors very nervous.

  10. Due to a f--king dishonest timewaster......one of the rarest and best tunes around is back up for sale (i gave this guy 3 weeks to pay and he still hasn't!) DELON WASHINGTON - GETTING MIGHTY CLOSE Lovelites (this is the only known copy and appears on JMs rarest of rare, if you want to hear it and see actual copy) vg+ skips on spoken intro, but i start it as music comes in, as is heard on jms. A mighty tune and uptempo soul at its very best. £1500 please note that i cant wait 3 weeks for payment!
  11. SAME couincil that wouldnt back the play when i had no money to go into rehearsal. Also same council that will get a writ from me debating intellectual property rights if they go ahead!!

  13. Nice...big tune for me. Had it covered as Luther Jackson....one just went on ebay for quite a bit...good luck.... Will be playing it at WILTON on sept 4th!
  14. Quite a few copies came from our good friend in the Carolinas i think. Love it, but for me, as happens with many great tunes, its being battered at the moment. Heard it twice at last lifeline then weekend after twice at another club ans so on...lets not wear it out too quickly. Guess its a victim of djs arriving just for their spot and not listening to whats gone before.
  15. RW is on facebook Paul got it thanks and spoke..all cleared up. found this review of the DISCO experience that Russ provides...proper 'Heart Of Soul'. Very Disappointed Date was changed 6 weeks ago and so was contacted to inform and said that this was fine. The night came and no dj turned up. When we finally got hold of Russ Winstanley he did finally come out himself but arrived around 9.30pm and then his equipment wouldn't work it ended up around 10.15pm before we got any music, and there was no lighting. And then he had the nerve to ask for the full amount for less than 2 hours work.

  17. Come on i need Winstanleys number to sort out these lies.....
  18. YES..total bullshit as you can run a check on films in production and that aint one of em! Also, i will put in an intellectual property claim if it does try to move forward, as, even in the published script, my stage directions and musical score are used aswell as ideas and elements throughout the script....that will pull any backers out and delay a film. (already had legal advice on this!) AND ITS THE TRUTH...Russ is a money grabbing slug with no soul and even the above quote is mis leading...the music for Bolton was ALL live with a blue eyed band and called 'ONCE UPON A TIME IN WIGAN LIVE'....in fact im gonna call the t--t and tell him. Anyoone have a number.? hes making out he did the music for my play called 'ONCE UPON A TIME IN WIGAN'..
  19. No.....Maybe Mick has, but he would sell his Granma for tuppence and would probably , like Bolton Octagon , make it into a crap musical
  20. I have one Paul PM me, i tried using Pm but didnt work? Or call 07880787706 best paul
  21. ...i actually have better things to do, but if you feel like chatting more about stuff...feel free, i will, as ever, try to answer truthfully, without avoiding the issue or hiding behind PAP humour...best Paul knowing you fun loving guys, theres probably another writ in the post for telling the truth!
  22. Ha! see what i mean about these guys, still avoiding the issue of why they tried to STOP the play and cash in on what they thought was a lucrative new market. Make as many lame attempts at humour as you like mate, truth is truth and your still avoiding it! Fact is i sorted tickets for Ritson and his son, on request of Winstanley and the guy came to the play and the after party ...shook my hand, said thanks and THEN....ISSUED A WRIT a couple of days later (or was that you?). So yes, your analysis of him is spot on...well done mate. If thats the way you and your staff behave, its no wonder you end up with a vacuous mag full of back stabbing...sorry i mean back scratching, soulessness! I have never spoken about this and was shocked by that behaviour at the time and didn't want to air your vampiric tendancies in public. BUT, listening to you and co, rant on and on with your self righteous pap, just pushed it out! Thanks for the praise, ive always found it a good virtue to face and speak the truth, so no insult their. Perhaps the Magazine might consider dealing with stuff truthfully in the future? I know, 'crazy suggestion', but hey, come on, you can do it! Be Cool, great name, perhaps the strap line ' a laxative for the soul' could work? as, it certainly is full of souless s--t
  23. Yes, joan replaced her battered one with that. I remember that night at Burnley...2 copies turned up....
  24. Still avoided the issue of the BE COOL backstabbers! I love the way you people can't answer a question directly..you can only have a stab at retorting with some odd vageurism about psychology.. However they did of course write and publish one of the defining books about Northern Soul, the 320 page "The In Crowd" in 1999 which is probably the best-selling book ever about Northern Soul and still available after numerous re-prints. Yes, nice pictures...good coffee table browser...hardly an in depth insight. The daily Star has numerous re-prints! Hang on a minute. I thought you were the guy who did a play about Wigan Casino? I was a resident D.J. at Wigan Casino and many of the people who have contributed to Manifesto over the years I first met @ Wigan. Must be that parallel universe that keeps happening ay? There you go, like many others, resting on your ancient laurels.(they must be crushed with all that heavy leaning by now) ..frankly, i dont give a toss where you djed and Wigan wasn't the pinnacle of soul for me....it was the scene , the whole scene, at that time that was brilliant. The play was about Wigan, the whole thing, from a punters point of view (mine) and, as a punter, i didn't notice you. Tremendous pun! When the next play? Im doing a play called 'OLGA' , it opens at CONTACT in February and will, like Wigan, play to over 100,000 people. Yourself? Maybe you will do 'Julius Ceasar' or another Roman classic where Laurels count! Or maybe you can do a 'Laurels and Hardly (got a clue)' classic..... There ya go insulting the good readers of Manifesto again...... Thats right...and? Ian D
