  1. Yes, it often looks as if they are dancing/performing over the tune rather than dancing 'within' it. That probably doesn't make sense (does to me though)
  2. Don't joke....it might be a future event!
  3. I'll take this please......
  4. Still looking. I would need it to be posted (UK) and will obviously cover the costs. Best Paul
  5. Judging by the response it appears that the origin of this unique event:
  6. I will PM you thanks
  7. Just to say, I am writing about Northern Soul dancing at the moment and these questions are genuine. So, comments are welcome. I have, since its inception, been bemused by the title of this competition. I, of course, have my own opinion, but I am very interested in your take on it. So, What makes it a World championship? What countries from around the World are represented? Why is it not called Blackpool dance competition (local as in the past)? Is it run by a representative World federation. As with other World dance competitions? Which other countries is it held in? Can another event(s) hold a World Northern Soul Dance Championship: so we will have many World champions? How do the judges choose a winner? Does the title mean the winner is the best northern soul dancer in the World? What do you personally think about Northern Soul dance competitions? Thanks in advance. Paul-S
  8. Used to have couple, but disappeared in the ether somewhere! Cheer Paul-s

Oh, those Vimto nights! I miss Karl bless him....
  10. I see Jim in the images too (Sadly missed).
  11. Wow, it is truly truly terrible!!
  12. I find that statement totally baffling and to my humble ears totally misguided. DJ's often seem very apathetic in terms of leaving the comfort of their hot box, chancing their arm with a lesser known, or very often have no idea of the massive breadth of whats not played/underplayed. A lot of this might be the result of the demise of record bars at events and the hours we spent listening to stuff we didn't know, searching for stuff we didn't know existed as well as those wants, listening to both sides, and talking records and exchanging stuff to take home and sift through, returning it at a later date on trust. Chalky is spot on on this.
  13. Thanks, really interesting again and some great questions and answers to consider.
  14. Thats a new one to me Ken, the Shazam thing. Really strange as a new (lazy?) way that people think will create knowledge, but also mostly out of place on the scene in terms of it not being able to recognise rarer tunes or lesser played I imagine.
  15. Yes, one member mentioned a guy who puts stuff up on YouTube with a note that if you don't want to be in it contact him. But, how do you know you are in it? I think promoters could put a notice telling people to request permission 'before' filming people. Or, even better, don't allow it and everyone get down together dancing, not performing and building some memories (in the soul not on film). But, i'm interested in other opinions, thats just mine....
  16. Just to say thanks to all those who contributed positively to the discussion, and some really useful stuff in there, particularly the comments about the constant filming that goes on nowadays in venues and then ends up on line. I'm interested to know peoples thoughts about why a lot of punters nowadays feel the need to constantly film themselves dancing (many do that on an empty or full dance floor) and to curate their soul-fullness online: in a kind of "this is how you do it, or how it should be done way". For instance, If you do this, are you actually 'in the moment and music' or performing? Thanks Paul
  17. Well done to all, very enjoyable watch and interesting stuff in there. Massive well done to Joan and all her dedicated hard work, a true soul indeed.
  18. Is this message on a loop? What repeated insults, initially it referenced general themes not the member personally? Then the member decided to become personal: see below. "policing is exactly what your doing, any variation of "your" world of soul is obviously wrong. If t shirts get you in such a frenzy well qué Sera. But anyway my opinion about the t shirt brigade stand and if you don't like it I don't give one." I responded to that articulately and in detail and with some humour, then received a PM threat not a reply. It's really a strange state when people 'feeling's' are hurt by a response to their own insulting behaviour. But, as I said, its becoming par for the course with todays cancel culture ideology. I wasn't crying (or hiding behind moderators) when I was accused of policing or being in a frenzy (even though i find both terms very offensive). In this case, 'you' are deciding to interpret the conversation in a way that suits your sense of what is offensive and that can be a dangerous road for free speech and any interesting debate. Anyway, thats the 'state' of affairs here it seems, so fine, and noted.
  19. Good move.... poetic if i might say so...
  20. So, just the sharing on site of an abusive PM sent to me privately by someone i had not made reference to or abused? I have followed your guidelines and sent the member a responsive PM as that is what this rule encourages. A bizarre policy if I might say, but not something I'm averse to doing, as i am able to remember my childhood playground games. I wasn't aware of this policy and thank you for pointing it out. I wont share PMs again. Paul
  21. Yes, but thats totally vague. I made NO DIRECT statement about any member? Can you please give the example as requested, otherwise its not really possible to see what you are talking about. It just comes across as arbitrary censorship based on projections not anything concrete.
  22. Quite frankly the soul source team are ridiculous for issuing me with a warning (see below) for using threatening behaviour without giving an example. See below. All this cloak and danger censorship with no reference reeks of abuse and marginalisation of members based on partisanship. I was the one who was threatened in a PM. Before that I had made absolutely no reference to the said member. If I had then please post below and I will acknowledge my error? Impossible, because I did not do anything. Mike/Mal (whoever the chief censor is) you are totally out of order here and are suggesting that members can PM each other threats based on projected slights and egos is absurd. This post will probably get censored but hey I feel good because I did nothing at all that you can show? It's all a bit conceited and cloak and danger vague and goes quite well with the level of wider public censorship we are seeing with 'Cancel Culture'. Th irony is that we started the scene to escape wider censorship by the state and now you seem to echo that state censorial responses to nothing. 'disruptive' or 'offensive' = what? Its a bit open to interpretation fellas? I guess your advocating then that I send a direct response to the said member: no problem, but don't then give me another warning for doing so. Thanks. Paul
