  1. I fully understand what your saying Andy. But, before i announce that a tune is being played for first time on scene, i do a lot of research, out of respect for all those who dj and stick with tunes at clubs big and small throughout uk, breaking them to new listeners. I think the Uk scene owes a little bit to the smaller clubs who break tunes (in a smaller way) that eventulally get filtered into the 'big' nighters. If i suddenly got a copy of 'King Moses' and announced i was playing it for the first time in uk, i would have people charging the decks to disagree. The credit for the funk edged sounds that are now creeping into the Northern Scene, needs to go to those djs that have been playing these tunes out and about for years and slowly allowing people to hear and appreciate it. Im not asking for much, just that the 'bigger' guys on the scene, do a bit of research and listening. Not you mate, because i know you know your stuff, but some of the 'Big name' djs might benefit from going out as punters to the smaller clubs that offer a fresh approach and have the freedom to break new tunes without getting 100s of complaints from soulies.
  2. Lee Williams - Girl From A Country Town Rapda m- £50 sold Marvin L Sims - Get Off My Back revue vg++ £40 sold TNT BAND - Meditation cotique m- £30 Diane Davidson - Sympathy janus m- £30 storming 70s Searling play
  3. Thats my point. Sam announced it as if hed just discovered it!
  4. Ha! Wally is a very rare tune £1000/£1500. Ill not be selling. The sad thing is that when a 'Big name' dj gets hold of a great tune, they usually hammer the life out of it, with no care or sense of preservation. If i heard it played relentlessly week in and week out, Yes i would get sick of it and sell. So SAm, please go steady! And remember its not a new discovery.
  5. WALLY COCO - MESSAGE TO SOCIETY- FLORENTINE Artist: Wally Coco Label: Florentine Track: message to society Been tipping this for nearly 2 years. Great 70s track and been around on Funk scene a good while. Sam played it at Lifeline on Saturday and announced it as first time out, new to scene etc. Now a mainstream dj of that calibre is playing it im sure people will take note and listen, which is great. But, it has been played on Uk scene by a couple of us for a good while now and also in Norway and other countries. Look out for Wally
  6. JOHN HARRIS & the Soul Sayers - Hangin In kerston UNIFICS - Tables Turn (tk 8 & 10) studio acetate and the tunes that haven't found me yet.
  7. 99% of punters!? What utter crap! As has been said, Lifeline, Burnley, Lowton, Soul or Nothing, 100 club, Europe, America and every soulie i know cares and would not go to a cd event. Geez where do you go out where there are all thes 'dont care' punters?
  8. Eddie GASPER Daye....is that the out of breath, smoking brother of Eddie Jasper Daye?
  9. No, but its the ORIGINAL VINYL press from the master tapes? I only DJ with a reel to reel and masters!
  10. NO, NO ,and NO again.
  11. YEP! I think its all been covered Stevie. I feel a sense of closure and that we have been able to cope with the oft cringeworthy aspects of Northern Soul via the medium of laughter and ridicule. Lets move on..
  12. Yes..nice room. The girls with the short skirts seem to be struggling with the splits!
  13. I actually hadn't met or wanted to meet Russ before the play. But had nothing against the bloke and out of respect I invited ALL the Wigan djs to the play (except one who I didn't want to). So no special treatment their. I ALSO, invited most of them to DJ and most of them did?! BUT most of them didn't even ask for a fee, but received one, as is right. Russ straight off said 'Yes' £250.' I hadn't ever hired a dj, so paid him! Even after seeing his crap bootlegs behind the decks! This in addition to the, probably close to 40 or more FREE tickets I gave him to the play. Every other week, "can so and so have a ticket"?. When the play struggled to go into rehearsal the second tour, he did f--k all to help,. I actually went to Wigan council myself to ask for £5000, he didnt offer or help at all. and i didnt get it. But, as soon as it opened he was there supporting (via free tickets) and clinging onto the play with both hands...he still is...its got the word 'Wigan' in it! Seemed to me and a lot of others, that it's a case of take, take, take? But no give? Not even buying ov vinyl. Which, if he represents WIGAN CASINO (as you seem to believe), must surely be an essential for such a figurehead. BECAUSE the DJ's at the place ran on and worshipped original vinyl from the U.S...they respected the origins of the music and the vinyl ORIGIN ATED, from the US? Not a factory in the north! When I originally planned the play I was going to use slides instead of film and so I started getting photos to put on slide. I needed a photo of the label for SISTER LEE. "No problem" said RUSS," ill bring mine in you can copy that". Great I thought. But Next day, my face dropped as he handed me the white label boot! I guess I just hate the fakery.of it all. Its shallow, sly and soulless (to me). Is he a dance expert? You seen him dance? Then "why the f—k is he endorsing a dance school"? HE would turn up to endorse any piece of s—t with the name Wigan Casino or Northern Soul on it. Preferably the two phrases in unison 'Wigan Casino, Northern Soul'! So if he cared about 'Our' memories and not selling them, down the swanny, so that we cringe everytime we see a shopping centre soul do or a f—kin dog coat, with Casino on...if he cared, why doesn't he show any respect or say 'no' to crap. He has clung on to the words Wigan Casino relentlessly and claws to keep a grasp, as if the mere mention smells of cash.! 'WE' , the punters, made Wigan Casino, as much as any dj or promoter! Its my memories hes tarnishing with his retelling and re selling of the Casino story and all its merchandise! He's spent 30 years pushing what was once proudly underground and rebellious, what was once real and to do with MUSIC, onto mugs, tea towels and into shopping centres! He once asked me to DJ at the MONACO, but i said no as i can't dj next to guys playing boots! You asked
  14. TRUE KEEPERS OF THE FAITH Well, since you ask "Did I call him Wankstanley'? Im going to tell you a tale, it will take a bit typing it, so bare with me, but watch this space. Im so pleased YOU asked, i was being discreet. Back in a mo
  15. Has he ever had a proper job or has he been dining out on Wigan for 35 years.? Never knew there was such a big demand for bootleg dj's in the uk. Certainly changed since the Wigan days then? A dj would have been thrown of the stage for playing boots. Theres a Russell brand joke that he did at NME awards event responding to Bob (the liger) Geldof....it reminds me of WINSTANLEY. Think of RW as Bob Geldof in this vid and listen to Brands final response and replace with 'Dining out for past 30 years on Wigan'
  16. Surely its called 'Shawiins Northern Soul Dance Academy' or WiiGan Casino or Wiistanley .... It makes sense coz in the vitual world Wankstanley has never stopped trying to make a living of what was virtulally just a brief period in the scenes history. In fact what does he do for a job?
