Sacred Four Somebody Watching You A DJ must have - as this 45 today’s Northern Soul sound captured perfectly! An intoxicating mix of Gospel, Funk & vocal-group dance that is now setting dancefloor’s alight! One listened and your hooked, one play for the DJ and the club ignites into electric sweaty experience as the group transfer their enthusiasm directly to the audience. This is NOW - and it’s instant ! A few very fine light surface marks - but as you can hear - it’s plays perfectly! Now setting the dancefloors alight! mmmmmm, well its Another DDA classic thats over 6 years old now. Remember getting this of Greg Belson and it becoming an instant classic. Its old and already a classic!

I played it out non stop for 3 years before i sold it to Flanny. It was a 'Soul or Nothing' tune. I played it at Middleton when i was resident (briefly) . I Got taken off after people complained because i played stuff they didn't know. Same set i was playing Sity and James, Sammy Campbell, Little Melvin & The Boleros, Frank Hutson, Al Danner etc, etc. The promoter didn't have the balls to stick by his dj's . I remember the night i found it in a box, bought it and put it straight on in my set thirty minutes later..

I used to have a version on a pink type label that was a different version (swings more) . Bad memory though so was it Gates?

MIKE, im not sure where to post so apologies. It really needs to go in a section where it will receive MOST views! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Its not too often i ask for assistance etc, etc, BUT: With all the cuts to funding , social outreach work, an un-sympathetic government and the general consequences of the bankers/investors/lenders creating a world economic crash, companies such as Dance Offensive CIC are in constant jeopardy and need to seek philanthropic support and private support elsewhere. I'd heard it from Callum Flack when i went to OZ many years ago, probably around 2006/7ish (i have a daughter there so went every year). I returned and hunted for it to no avail for two years. No one had heard of it. So i took a trip to John Manship's to part with and buy some tunes and picked up Bernetia Miller (then unknown and very rare, prob still pretty much the same) , Callum was after one, so i went to Oz and traded for John Harris. When i returned it became a DDA club standard.

Poll: Bbc Culture Show - Northern Soul - Your Take ?
Paul-s replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
Yes definitely Ian and backdrops and a few other things from the Teddy Boys at the earlier soul events -
Ive been out of the mainstream loop a while now...probably always was, but i do still look through lists , posts etc and i'm amazed by the information that comes up and who creates much of it? For instance: https://www.rarenorthernsoul.com/Rare-70s-80s/6431/peace-in-the-land/#product I've not really played out for 3 years, but i was playing this out for 3 years before that and never had it covered? Is it hype to create cash? Or recently i saw John Harris & the Soul Sayers up and someone saying its a future classic? Again, i was playing it every spot for at least 5/6 years back..It was always a classic at DDA....I traded it for Bernetia Miller (is this another future classic). Sacred Four, Soul Injection, Hitchhikers & Mighty Pope, Delon Washington, Brotherly Five....etc, etc, I find it very interesting that when (quite a long time ago) i was playing all these tunes, venues were fearful of from giving me a spot or just not listening or going out to small clubs to test the real vibe and movement. Now, years later, as venues finally catch up to the excitement and soul of these tunes, i am offered more spots than ever. But to me these are now oldies and like them as i do, i'm not sure i would want to hammer them out week in week out. I guess i'm just not a jobbing dj type. So, Should promoters be more daring? Take a punt, explore, look beyond their circle of mates and safe options? Im just being devils advocate here. Recently i have had loads of emails for tunes i put up for sale or had on my playlists (on here) again from many years ago. People are obviously googling them and often its a trail to me via these lists. So, is a future classic the definition of a tune that gets (finally) into the hands of a big venue dj and finds acceptance amongst the mainstream? Its a very annoying term..;) Best Paul-s

SORTED AT LAST! Basically i told ORCHARD to bring it on and i would see them and my PRS certificate of payment in court! They are proper blaggers and YOU TUBE should stop them! "Little Richard-I Don't Want To Discuss It", sound recording administered by:15:21 SME Claim released. "Bettye Lavette-Let Me Down Easy", sound recording administered by:14:17 EMI Claim released. "Bettye Lavette-Let Me Down Easy (Re-Record)", sound recording administered by:14:17 The Orchard Music "Bettye Lavette-Let Me Down Easy (Re-Record)", sound recording administered by:14:17 The Orchard Music Claim released.

So i disputed ORCHARD and got this: ITs really pissing me off that YOU TUUBE just let any company make false claims. Whats next step? "Bettye Lavette-Let Me Down Easy (Re-Record)", sound recording administered by:14:17 The Orchard Music Dispute rejected; claim has been reinstated.

"Bettye Lavette-Let Me Down Easy (Re-Record)", sound recording administered by:14:17 The Orchard Music Your dispute awaiting response by 06/08/13 So, claims dropped then another appears. Every time one is released its as though someone tries to find another reason to falsely block it: Who the hell are ORCHARD music and what the RE-RECORD in brackets mean? Anyway its on Vimeo and enjoying plenty of views and sharing now. best Paul-s

Im having a fun old time trying to fight of false claims about music use in my documentary about the making of 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan'. I paid over £7000 in total on the tunes i use in the play to PRS and i was only using snippets , not whole tunes. Apparently 'some' people keep claiming i don't have permission, contacting You Tube and consequently the documentary gets blocked, i fight claims, it get released (because i paid for usage) and they look for another way to block it! Tossers , but, let them try. The truth will out! So now i have the following: "Little Richard-I Don't Want To Discuss It", sound recording administered by:15:21 SME Claim released. "DO I LOVE YOU (INDEED I DO)", musical composition administered by:20:40 EMI Music Publishing Your dispute awaiting response by 04/08/13 "I DON'T WANT TO DISCUSS IT", musical composition administered by:15:29 The Harry Fox Agency, Inc. (HFA) Your dispute awaiting response by 04/08/13 "Bettye Lavette-Let Me Down Easy", sound recording administered by:14:17 EMI Claim released. "LET ME DOWN EASY", musical composition administered by:14:25 SACEM Your dispute awaiting response by 04/08/13 PEDL Your dispute awaiting response by 04/08/13 Warner Chappell Your dispute awaiting response by 04/08/13 UMPG Publishing Your dispute awaiting response by 04/08/13 ALL of these can be found in there entirety in uploads on You Tube, but no complaints or blockages..... dark forces are at work to stop the truth coming out as they try to exploit the original piece. So for those who wish to see and share the documentary, it is now on my vimeo channel to access freely and enjoy. Best Paul-S

Footage From The Original Play: Once Upon A Time In Wigan
Paul-s replied to Paul-s's topic in All About the SOUL
SORTED NOW. I had to fight two record companies and prove i had already paid over £5000 in PRS when we put the play on, so was entitled to use the tracks. So it is once again LIVE: Strange they blocked it, as the tracks existed in their full versions on Youtube already! Anyway, enjoy and share please. best Paul -
Yes it certainly was, i was living in Notts at the time and went to one...very odd! Mind it was just post "Operation Crossbow', so an odd atmosphere was prevailing anyway. Personally, I had a cracking time all over the country at nighters and soul nights in the 80s.

Dj's I Would Love To See Back Behind The Decks
Paul-s replied to Russ Vickers's topic in All About the SOUL
Val would be a fantastic choice and even when we only ran a small Cambridge venue, it was pleasure to have him on! Im looking forward to seeing Greg Belson in the UK as a breath of fresh air and a soulful spirit. The North East boys ALWAYS hit the spot as guests at DDA, again, always arriving with passion, soul and for the duration! -
I can spot None. I didn't train anyone to dance either. I co-ordinated a monthly dance club where people came and shared a good time, music and experience much the same as we did , or i did, back in the mid 70's. I think your using the word 'ironic' in the Alanis Morrissette way which is ironic, given that you were attempting to be ironic...

Not a strange decision at all. Personally, i don't know any dancers who would want to do this type of pap! If money is their only criteria then these type of things would be no good. They usually offer 'fame and experience' and some sub-standard food. If i know a project is utter s--te i will definitely not pass on anyones details. I knew this was just that and, for me anyway, seeing the end result proves it. Recently a channel 4 cookery programme contacted me wanting me to 'choreograph' 3 Northern soul dancers in a 30 second fun routine, saying they knew it was usually done alone, but on this occasion they thought it would be fun for them to do a routine. I said 'no'. I don't see it as taking work from people rather than ignoring yuppie producers request to exploit the dancers and the scene. Also, there are always dancers who are willing to do this type of thing and dance to and for anything, so someone gets the unpaid work and exposure in the end. I just feel better not having helped in the process. cheers P

What a god awful song and video....they sent me an email asking if I knew any dancers that would be interested! I said "No".
