  1. Thanks Benji and Eddie Definitely not Kenny G - much more punchy than that Not Crack Steppin either - definitely a version of Jr Walker's 'What does it take to win your love' - Crack Steppin probably a red herring on my part Anyone able to ask Sam himself?
  2. Have just had a flash that this may have been called something like 'Crackstep 12"', but can't find any reference to that on the web
  3. Hi Ivor, thanks for the info - not this version though, the one Sam was playing was faster with more of a drum machine type backing, and sounded to me more modern than 82 - an early 90's indie at a guess
  4. Can anyone help identify this for me - Sam was playing a 12" of 'What does it take to win your love' around 1992/3, no vocal, just a fully instrumental sax version which always sounded great played out. Definitely a 12" as I remember looking at the decks. Would guess a fairly modern release at that time. I have a feeling it got a mention in an old Manifesto or similar but can't find the article anywhere. Have been through all the versions on Youtube, etc, but can't find it. Cheers, Chris.
  5. Agreed, I have heard loads of great tunes for the first time through this - absolutely brilliant, a proper piece of work

  9. "Sensational" Little Doc & His Rhythm Express - Looking For My Baby (Music-Go-Round) VG+ Reduced to £125. Nice shiny vinyl with clean, bright labels both sides. Plays very cleanly apart from a little nick c. 2mm long at about twenty five past which causes 9 slight pops in the right channel half way through the tune. Otherwise loud, clean and clear. The only other significant mark is a lighter fingernail scratch c. 1cm just above the G in Merry-Go-Round not affecting play. Youtube clip for reference only - not my copy, though photo of mine attached further down:- Sensational 45 Photo.pdf PM if interested Will refund in full within 7 days if not completely happy Paypal as gift Postage £6.50 special delivery or £2.30 recorded first class Cheers, Chris
  10. NB. what looks like long scuffs on the vinyl is just the way the light shone on it when I took the photo!

  18. And already did, before someone else says it
  19. Love this thread - some great recommendations. Can think of so many hair raising moments when it really can't get any better:- The intro to Barbara Lewis 'Remember the feeling' The start of The Invitations 'Look on the good side' where it breaks into the main string riff The whole of The Dells 'It's all up to you' The last chorus of Four Tops 'I just can't get you out of my mind' when they all sing together The horns and drum roll at the start of Frank Beverly 'If that's what you wanted' The fade out of George Pepp 'Feeling is real' - "you're breaking my heart baby....don't break my heart' The intro and string break in Barbara McNair 'It happens every time' The piano and vocal at the start of Jerry Fuller 'I get carried away' The fade out of Masqueraders 'Please take me back' - "please...please" The start of Donny Hathaway's 'Lord help me' The start of Frankie & Johnny 'I'll hold you' (I know!) Marvin Junior's "whoaa...ohhh" at the end of Make Sure The bit halfway through Jasper St Co 'Since I found you' where the vocal kicks in (Cleethorpes modern room!) When the organ comes in during the second verse of D.J. Rogers 'love brought me back' Dean Courtney 'love you just can't walk away' - "Love.....what have I done" The echoey piano in Carol & Gerri 'How can I ever find the way' The start of Hamilton Movement 'She's gone' - "you know life, is a funny funny thing" The piano riff at the start of Timmie Williams 'Competition' I could go on and on! Probably my favourite is so obscure I would suggest you probably need to be stoned to appreciate it. Used to come in from Droylesden niters back in the early 90's and sit and have a mug of tea and a smoke listening to tunes. My absolute fave post niter spin was Johnnie Taylor 'What about my love' (Beverly Glen), and in particular the bit at the end of the second verse where the drummer drops the hi-hat out for a few beats, just leaving the bass drum in. Such a small trick but somehow so impossibly cool it just makes me go 'aaaarrrghhhh!!!' every time - still does now when I hear it. Tried to explain it to my mate Mark at Cleethorpes a couple of years ago and once he tuned in he fell off his chair laughing about it - see if it does it for you!
  20. Very sad news - love a lot of his stuff - always such a distinctive sound Remember this being played as a new release at Congleton Leisure Centre niter in 1991 (a full on northern do - needless to say it cleared the floor) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djZcwJTXfro
  21. Thanks for looking - PM if interested Postage £2.30 1st class recorded or £7.00 special delivery Youtube clip provided for reference only - not my copy Paypal as gift Ernestine Anderson - Keep an eye on love (Sue) M- 100 Lovely clean white label copy - hard to believe 50 years old "From Brazil, to Sugar Hill........" - DJ's take note - could be a big spin this World Cup year Cheers, Chris.
