  5. Really looking forward to seeing Sharon as well Ady - any plans to get 'Where there is love' out on vinyl to tie in?
  6. I got a mint original issue on ebay a couple of years ago for £50, which I thought at the time was fairly pricey but now looks like a bargain - fantastic record as well
  7. I love it too - paid £200 late 90's for a mint copy from Pat Brady, so would have thought with continuing popularity and rarity it would have increased in value somewhat. Like all auctions though, depends who is looking at the time I suppose
  8. £184 for Embers 'First Time' looks a bargain to me - don't see it for sale very often and would have expected a good £250?
  9. Looking for a nice clean copy of this if one going spare Cheers, Chris.
  10. Many thanks for this Sean
  11. Interesting piece from today's BBC news website https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-32087287
  12. Many thanks Sean, this has absolutely made my day - gone back and printed off issue 1 now as well I loved Shades of Soul, for me by far the funniest, most relevant, insightful, etc, of all the various magazines from the mid 80's onwards. My first issue 1987 - remember trying to persuade John Powney to photocopy the earlier ones from his own collection but it never happened, so thanks very much - look forward to any more you can upload Cheers, Chris
  13. Hi Dave, good to hear from you Remember saying to Dave Hind when he wanted to put you on, "but does he have the tunes?" lol - I'll get me coat Often wondered who got the James Phelps Cheers, Chris.
  14. Don't know where you find room for all the vinyl Dave Still in touch with Gav Smith, he speaks to Jim and Sean but I haven't for ages Good to hear from you Cheers, Chris.
  15. Hi Dave, Interesting to read your comments - not sure I 100% concur but who cares, it's a long time ago. I do know some great tunes were played and I remember it fondly. I did play Vaneese & Carolyn and Bobby Wilburn several times - both were from Rod for £60 each, before and during the PO run, not from you later. NB. did borrow your BW one week to play because I liked it so much, then bought it from Rod before the next one Alan mentioned Caroline in post 16 - I remember her Johnnie Mae Matthews 'I have no choice' sounded fantastic. Glad you reminded me what the O V Wright track was, been trying to remember for years Many happy lunchtimes in the old Goldmine 'Soul Cellar' chewing the fat and spinning tunes. Used to love your 'Winner' tapes around that time, put me on to so many good records that you could pick up for a few quid. Didn't realise you'd kept so many - still playing them much? Cheers, Chris.
  16. I'd also have a copy of 'If you're gonna love me' if anyone wants to pm me with details Cheers, Chris.

  19. Anyone see Richard's surprise appearance in the excellent BBC4 Joy Division documentary last Fri? Almost did a double take. Apparently he was involved with signing them to RCA because Ian Curtis used to call and see him at the RCA office to ask about Iggy Pop, and when RCA were looking for a punk band RS recommended them. On Richard's suggestion they then nicked the guitar riff from N F Porter's 'Keep on keeping on'. Funny old world
  20. Always liked the one in Mickie Champion 'What good am I', ideally accompanied by a well timed backdrop 1.17 on this clip Also love the sax squeal in Betty Everett's 'I've got a claim on you' at about 1.33 on here - hairs on your neck, etc
  21. Summer 1996, a mate in Liverpool was after my Annette Poindexter 'Wayward Dream' (Twinight) for which I had paid £35 a couple of years earlier, and which in fact had a slightly annoying edge warp. I was quite into collecting jazz stuff at the time and he offered me his whole collection (c. 30 LP's) of late 80's Blue Note reissues, all in lovely nick, as a straight swap for Annette. I hummed and hawed before deciding to to do the deal, and having a week off work drove over to Liverpool and came away with the LP's. I had then arranged to go up to John Powney's in Newcastle who at that time had boxes and boxes of 45's all lovingly filed in label order. 'I'll just have a look at the T's', I thought, and guess what - a mint copy (no edge warp) of Wayward Dream just sat there. How much? £15, JP never being one to overprice. Happy days
  22. Remember Butch at Bretby clearing the floor with Dennis Edwards 'I didn't have to' then saying something along the lines of 'that's the best record you'll hear all year and you must be a bunch of dickheads for not dancing to it' - something of a tumbleweed moment
  23. Was there much in the way of a 'soul scene' in the 1970's or was it just as someone else suggested a general disco scene that happened to play some of the same records we did?
  24. What do you mean, 'unfortunately'
