  1. Why is it so rare? Well known label, Van McCoy,etc
  2. I know, I saw Craig Moerer has one on Discogs at £94 - think I'll put it on my Christmas list
  3. Also because you don't tend to hear them out anywhere or see them mentioned you forget other people know them One of my absolute faves - possibly the best £4 I ever spent, never get tired of it - pure magic
  4. Great thread - going to keep me busy for a while Ten turntable melters from me:- Masqueraders - Please take me back (Bell) Judy Freeman & Blackrock - Don't do it anymore (RCA) Jean Plum - Back to you (Hi) Michael Lizzmore - Promise that you'll wait (Capitol) Carl Weathers - You ought to be with me (Mirage) Jimmy Dotson - Heartbreak Avenue (Mercury) Jaibi - You got me (Kapp) Donny Hathaway - Lord help me (Atco) Nat Turner Rebellion - Can't go on livin (Soulville) Denise Lasalle - Trying to forget (Westbound)
  5. Nice that, like something Ann Sexton or Betty Wright might have done - great voice
  6. Great tune Martyn 'I found out', bit of a cult sound around the North West early 90's along with Twilight Zone - seem to remember Guy playing 'Found Out' at Tony's in Blackburn around that time, and I picked up a nice UK copy in Goldmine just afterwards. Also like 'More Power to You' which I remember Mickey Cruise raving about as the best Astors tune:-
  7. I knew you were going to say that lol
  8. Dean, PS I remember the day you got your Sam Fletcher from Rod - Alan told me one had come in but you had got there first with the readies and I was totally miffed lol
  9. Hi Dean, in fact you were the first person I heard spin Bobby Reed, at an excellent Parkers occasional 'northern' night in one of the other rooms, c. 1992 I guess. It was creating something of a stir at the time and I remember being blown away. Took me ages to get one - Dave Hind sold his copy to Soul Sam at Thorne having already promised it to Alan D, which went down like the proverbial with Alan Seem to recall you also spun some nice beat ballads that night at Parkers like Irma Thomas 'It's starting to get to me now' - have a funny memory for that kind of thing. Holly Maxwell 'Only when you're lonely' another big tune of the time My Bobby Reed styrene I think - does distort slightly in places. Hadn't realised also on vinyl. Had a Buddy Ace 'Pleasing You' for sale on here a few weeks back and several emails asking if it was vinyl or styrene, folks only after the vinyl - hadn't thought that scientifically about it before, just a good tune. Cheers, Chris.
  10. I'll have these if OK - will PM you Cheers, Chris.
  11. Shame - RIP Curtis. Really interesting about his DJ career, etc. Also didn't know 'How can I tell her' the same Curtis as 'The Hardest Part'. Wonder if he knew they were big spins here? Hardest Part especially just awesome:-
  12. Great article Chalky, thanks - I only came in at the tail end of the 80's but caught a lot of the spirit at places like Bradford and Droylsden NB. would deffo include Manchester Ritz as above, some blinding nights there - Butch, Sam, Searling, Ady sometimes - in the days before it was done up and still a bit rough and ready, one of the best niter venues I've been to - balcony, tunnel underneath, big crowds, bouncing dancefloor, etc - great stuff. Still got the potential to be a regular central niter IMO though it has been tried recently with surprisingly poor attendance
  13. You're right that's really good - loads of good tracks, and love the 1960 What
  14. Great stuff - also hammered his 'Nothing but a house party' from last year
  15. Brilliant, great post thanks - love the dancers
  16. Some nice stuff here Alan, thanks - all new to me. Really like Celestine , lovely piano riff - sticking with the original mix I think, top class Also the Moses Boyd, will have me running up the walls I'll do well to recommend anything you don't already know but a few bits I've been hammering recently:- 1) Blonde - All cried out (Oliver Nelson Remix) The only mix that counts 2) Marquis Hawkes - Summer Memory From 'Social Housing' LP, a real builder. Also love 'Fantasy' 3) Rocco Careri & Arturo Macchiavelli - Native New Yorker 4) Zepherin Saint feat Ann Nesby & G3 - Optimistic Lovely version 5) Frankie Knuckles Director's Cut feat Sybil - Let yourself go (Director's Cut Master Mix) This mix a cut above, proper love it Look forward to some more top tips Cheers, Chris.
  17. One of my favourite DJ's since first seeing him Thur nights at Hyde Botanical c. 1990, then regularly at Droylseden, Bradford Queens Hall, Wilton, Bretby, etc, through the 90's. Particularly loved his mid-late 90's sets including gems like Spellbinders 'Baby I miss you', the brilliant Rhetta Hughes 'Cry myself to sleep', Sugar & Spices 'Have faith in me', Patience Valentine 'If you don't come', Carl Underwood 'Ain't you lying', April, May & June 'He went away', Richard Berry 'Have love will travel', Nappy Brown 'Coalminer', Marie Knight 'To be loved by you', Volumes 'Ain't gonna give you up', Helen Troy 'I think I love you', plus of course Kinettes, E. Williams, etc. Often by some distance the best spot of the night IMO, quality through and through. Some other top RB spins I don't think anyone else has mentioned - Miracles 'If your mother only knew, Douglas Banks 'Ain't that just like a woman', Gay Jamison 'Stay another day', Timi Yuro 'Ain't gonna cry no more', Stevie Wonder 'Contract on love', Paul Sindab 'I was a fool' (loved it at Hyde), The Artistics 'This heart of mine', Barbara Lewis 'I remember the feeling' and possibly best of all for me Frankie & Johnny 'I'll hold you' at Clegg Sunday nights. Had many great times listening and dancing to Roger tunes. Don't go out as regularly now but always look forward to seeing him on the decks when I get chance
  18. Look forward to this, thanks - didn't know about EMS
  19. I love my ipod and that has taken the place of records on an everyday basis, however I have a strict policy of never downloading or copying tunes I already have on vinyl, which means I have to get the record deck on if I want to hear them. Reminds me of pre-internet days when you had to go actually go out to a club to hear particular records. It keeps them special and makes them all the more enjoyable when you do play them. Couple of drinks, good quality sound system, tunes into the early hours - nothing like it
  20. Brilliant track, features on the excellent mid 80's Kent LP 'New York City Soul' along with Billy Sha-Rae
  21. On a sales list just posted in case you haven't seen it
