  1. Sure it's a tacky record but doesn't it make you feel a bit wistful and nostalgic for the golden era when soulies were young and fit and full of energy, not like most of today's crowd lol
  2. Shame it's got so complicated, I would have liked to have seen it
  3. Really interesting post, thanks - certainly looks like him, though maybe somewhat surprising the article makes no mention of his background in the music business - shame Leroy H not on here
  4. Obviously apart from 'Trying to.....'
  5. Any info about Arnold Blair? Great voice, love 'I won the big deal' too - did he do much else?
  6. Hi Jonathan, can you say which dealer so I can make contact? Cheers, Chris.
  7. Fantastic stuff, love the Roy Ayers, Lorraine J, Herbie Mann, Larry Graham. Miracles - just superb - headphone heaven Looking forward to Colin Curtis' Mecca do Sat 19th Nov for a whole day / night of these sounds, not heard often enough these days
  8. Some great tunes - love the Ritchie Adams, new to me - just been shopping for one on ebay and found it at a decent price from the US. Kitchen sink or what Been trying to find a Chi Chi for ages too, got 'Just let it happen' but not 'If you're gonna love me'
  9. Cheers Ivor, great to see so many tunes being posted - keeping me busy checking them out What goodies are on your decks currently?
  10. I have tapes somewhere of Guy H on Terry Christian's Manchester show, late 80's I think - remember Guy playing Johnny McCall 'You can't get away' and a long discussion about the line 'you got my nose open wide'
  11. Great clip Mark - 'the Leicester Crowd' lol I'm a sucker for a bit of uptempo Mecca Magic, loads of it still fairly cheap to pick up on vinyl
  12. Dead right - blinding double sider in fact with 'Don't let me go' on the flip
  13. Meant to say this one massively underrated IMO, just brilliant
  14. Some awesome tunes there, and as you say most of which you can still pick up for the price of a pint
  15. Great post, thanks - most new to me - La Familia Inc and Blossoms 'Touchdown' excellent, also Frankie Newsom, plus some great sweet / deep (Marvelows, True Movement)
  16. Windy City on Discogs from Germany that you might be able to get in time, a touch pricey perhaps but top tune - worth every penny IMO https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/2264433?ev=rb
  17. I meant just going by the youtube clip Rod posted earlier
  18. Is it Johnny Moore on the Coronadas version as well? Sounds like it to me
  19. lol modern soul I know what you mean I like to play Robert Cray 'Bad Influence' from time to time, great track
  20. Got the vinyl out last night along with a few cold Peroni, and thought I'd post up my playlist. What's on your current home decks? Modern vibe for me last night, sounded fantastic on the old cans - volume increased in line with beers consumed so ears shot this morning Movement of Soul feat Kalim Shabazz - Pieces (Element 12") Mass Syndicate feat Su Su Bobien - You don't know (M.A.S. Collective Gospel Club Mix) (FFRR 12") Rhythm Section feat Donald O - Do you know (MAW 12") Kimiesha Holmes - Ups and Downs (Yellorange 12") Four Tops - I just can't get you out of my mind (Probe) Willie Hutch - Let's try it over again (RCA) Dionne Warwicke - Move me no mountain (WB) Salena Jones - Am I the same girl (CBS) Les McCann - Sad little girl (Limelight) Johnny Bristol - Love no longer has a hold on me (Handshake) Clydene Jackson - I need your love (Crossover) Renee Geyer - Be there in the morning (RCA) Leroy Hutson - Right or Wrong (RSO) Blood Hollins feat Jean Lang - How have you been (RCA 12") Bo & Ruth - You're gonna get next to me (EMI LP version)
  21. That's really interesting, maybe something of a signature Brunswick sound, as heard in Jackie Wilson cuts like 'I can feel those vibrations', 'Sweetest feeling', or Tyrone Davis 'Can I change my mind'. Maybe even a late 60's 'Chicago' sound i.e. Lee Charles 'I never want to lose my sweet thing', or Shirley Wahls 'Why am I crying' which have that soft, slightly baggy finger picked bass as opposed to a lot of say Detroit or Philly records of the same period. One non-Chicago tune that springs to mind with a really cool 'muted flats' bass part is Patrinell Staten 'Little love affair' (Sepia) - the bass sound really sticks out when you hear it loud. Have posted it underneath, which I know breaks the rules because I definitely don't own the record (unfortunately) , but a great tune nonetheless and always worth enjoying:-
  22. Not that I'm always copying you or anything Martyn lol but following on with a nice bit of Sam & Dave from me, 'Said I wasn't gonna tell nobody', here on UK Atlantic, though mine is on a nice Stax WD:-
  23. That really is good - also on download for those of that persuasion
  24. Taking a leaf out of Martyn's book today and going all girl group with this one, The Cinderellas 'Baby, Baby (I still love you' (Dimension).
  25. Great stuff Patto, used to love it echoing around Bradford Queens Hall niters. Pitch black hall, blaring brass, off me tree under the balcony Top nights. This one and Donna Coleman bring it right back
