  10. I suppose I mean records that were unusually big in certain areas, rather than venues - like the Len Boone one, went massive in Peterborough and about 60 miles around it, but not noticeably huge everywhere else
  11. Came across a funny youtube clip of a load of people in Peterborough doing a big line dance kind of thing to late 70's funk / soul Len Boone 'Love can't be denied', and the comments underneath are all about how it was a massive play in the Peterborough / Cambs / North Norfolk region. While it was a club hit generally, it seems to have particularly taken off there for some reason. Got me wondering about others - I remember Searling and Bob Hinsley at various times saying Dells 'Run for Cover' was a big Bolton record, and Kev Roberts in the sleeve notes to the Golden Nuggets CD says Al Matthews 'Fool' was a big record in Birmingham. Any others of note?
  12. Great short film about RE, well worth a watch
  13. Very sad, anyone know what happened? Hammered this 12" a few years back, top dance tune
  14. Top tune, way underrated
  15. Just been checking these out - some killer cuts, hard to pick favourites but particularly like Scacy Sound Service, Gaturs, The Chefs, and Funk Inc - great stuff
  16. Another weekend, another keg of Ghost Ship Here's last night's playlist:- Carolyn Crawford - Just got to be more careful (P.I.R.) The Duprees - Delicious (RCA) Bus Connection - Skateboard (Beppe Loda Cuts 12") * see below Terumasa Hino - Send me your feelings (Flying Disk LP) Esther Phillips - I've never found me a man (Kudu) Jack Ashford - I'll fly to your open arms (Magic Disc LP) The Dramatics - Don't make me no promises (Cadet LP Dells vs Dramatics) Jay W. McGee - I love you (over & over) (Scorpio LP) Wilson Williams - I think it's gonna work out fine (ABC LP) Bob Relf - Girl you're my kind of wonderful (Trans) The Supremes - Up the ladder to the roof (Motown) Jeffree - Love Loan (Expansion) ** see below Michael Jackson - We're almost there (Motown) The Devastating Affair - My place (Mowest) Mary Love Comer - Caught up (Co Love 12") Saint Tropez - Fill my life with love (Butterfly) Garland Green - Just my way of loving you (Cotillion) The Winstons - Color him Father (Metromedia) * Bus Connection 'Skateboard' obscure Italian late 70's cut, just reissued on 12" but you can pick it up on the original 12". Could be a left field big room spin now IMO, though it might have been the Ghost Ship. Reckon it would have rocked at Cleethorpes back in the day. No clip on youtube but link to Juno soundfile below - see what you think (track 2):- https://www.juno.co.uk/products/beppe-loda-italian-spaghetti-disco-70-volume/720407-01/ ** Jeffree - 'Love loan' - I honestly can't think of many records I enjoy playing more, just love it
  17. Yeah it's a great and underrated tune - need to dig it out and check - from memory it is pretty good though I think maybe styrene which doesn't help
  18. Thanks - Chris is a good drummer and was one of the founders of Speedometer - he gets together with them mostly now for European festivals during the summer but was kicking his heels a bit at other times - the others are mostly London based and he lives here in the sticks (Lincs). We're playing similar stuff and going to do some local gigs (Nottingham, etc) - just working up a decent set at the moment. He / they have had some amazing gigs as pick up band for loads of soul and funk acts - Sharon Jones, Lee Fields, Marva Whitney, etc when they've come over to do the Jazz Cafe or whatever without their own band
  19. That's an interesting looking playlist - don't know any of the tunes at all and will definitely be checking them out, however small world etc I play guitar in a band with Chris Starmer, the drummer from Speedometer So there you go
  20. Me too, though love Jackson Sisters as well My copy has an edge warp so I got it relatively cheap - hardly ever see it for sale
  21. Nice one thanks - in fact I spun a couple of them 3 or 4 times, Mary Browne being one of them - can't just seem to play it once lol. Also first heard it from IL, one time he was on in the main room at Cleethorpes. Probably one of my favourite 45's but I know not to everyone's taste The other one I have to play again and again is Mark Capanni, just love it but again I know a bit marmite
  22. Keep checking in on here but not posted for a while, so here's what I played last night along with a few pints of Ghost Ship. Bit of an eclectic mix:- Fresh Band - Come back lover (Remix) (Best Record Italy 12") La Compagnie Creole - A.I.E. (LL Club Mix) (Pardonnez-Nous 12") Chris Rea - Josephine (Version Longue) (French Magnet 12") Mark Capanni - I believe in miracles (Capitol 7") David Huff - Mary Browne (MGM 7") Blood Hollins & Jean Lang - How have you been (RCA 7") Toulouse - Lindbergh II (Inst) (Magique 7") Mary Love Comer - Caught Up (Love Records 12") Frankie Kelly - Ain't that the truth (Ten Records 12") Sean Oliver - You and Me (Boomtang 12") Elbow Bones & The Racketeers - A Night in New York (EMI America 12") Wilson Williams - I think it's gonna work out fine (ABC 'Up the Downstairs' LP) Chi Chi - If you're gonna love me (Kapp 7") The Perfections - Just can't leave you (Hayley 7")
