Yes, it's on Parrot. Still tough to turn up, unfortunately.

I love flea markets and thrift shops....usually the price is right for a few risks and if you find something you're actually after, it's even better.
I stopped at a thrift shop last night & found an LP for 50 cents:
The Soultown Symphony plays the best of the Detroit Sound (anvil 1001)
Orchestra covers of Motown tracks......actually not terrible.
-
I've seen it several times at various record shows over here in the mid-Atlantic region of the States. Anyone know if this is the same Soul Patrol who put out the great funk 45s on Discovery & Zuma?
-
Come on, now. $600,000 is nothing for a 'legendary collection'.......
-
Ernie Johnson -Big Man Cry- Steph & Lee
Herbs - Put A Hurtin on My Heart - Smoke
Ideals - I Got Lucky (When I Found You) - St. Lawrence
link
That Ideals track is very nice.
-
That's quite a rare record actually
link
And actually quite a good record, although it has nothing to do with northern soul.
I'd like a copy myself.....
-
What kind of squid we looking at for us readers who happen to be stateside?
Thanks.

Anyone know if there are any other Thomas label (or St. Lawrence) picture sleeves?
Found this one a couple of years back, but haven't seen any others.
Thanks.
-
Yeah, got a U.K. issue myself - came out on U.S. as well I seem to recall having one in the past.
Very good version.
link
Yes it came out in the States, I have one. Nice tune.

Like everyone else, I've been primarily staying with the cheapies as of late, too.
Have found/bought:
Bobby Sax - Sock It
The X-Citers Unlimited - Soul to Billy Joe 45
Louis Cachere - The Hen 45
Idris Muhammed - Superbad/Express Yourself 45
Margie Joseph - I Can't Move No Mountains 45
Orgone - Funky Nassau 45
Vivian Reed s/t LP (Epic)
the hip cover of the garage tune 'The Shapes of Things to Come' is the highlight here
Cecil Holmes Soulful Sounds - Soulful Sounds for Lovers
their cover of "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby' is great

Ebay will never take the place of going to a record shop or show, etc..., and having the immediate pleasure of finding a record you've been after (or something new & exciting) and walking out the door.
I tend to use e-bay more as a resource for my record shopping that's done off-line. I try to note interesting 45s and then look for them in the field. Generally, with a bit of patience, I can find them for less than the e-bay price. Being on a budget, this is a good thing. Then again, spending the $$ to get a record you've been after the 'bay...feels real nice to mark it off the wants list......
-
Some 45s on the 'bay ending in 2 days:
Big Maybelle - 96 Tears
Mel Torme - Comin' Home Baby
Ben Collier BBSS - Walk Proud
Harvey Farquart Express - California Dreaming

Dead right - one with strings and one without - the one without is less common and very sought after with the London two steppers.
Girf
link
I've heard the one with the strings. Anyone have a soundfile of the version without?
-
Deja Vu - spooky or what? - there's two versions on Deto I am sure of it.
link
Thanks for the information everyone.
I knew there was a later pressing on Morning Glory - but now two distinct versions on De-To?? Wasn't expecting that.
-
Been meaning to ask this...
What's the going rate for Dee Edwards 'I Can Deal With That' on De-To?
Thanks.
-
Good to hear a new show. Thoroughly enjoying it.
-
The Debra Anderson sold on e-bay last year for less than $100, if I remember correctly.

FOR ME THE GRITTY FUNKIER SOUND BABY I GOT IT ON AUDIO ARTS WITH THE FABULOUS SOULS IS THE DOGS DO DARS
link
I second that. Great tune.
-
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings - How Do I Let a Good Man Down?
from the Naturally LP
Ray Alexander Technique - Let's Talk LP
side 2 of this LP is real nice. It's been my headphone spin of choice
(headphones go on when the wife goes to bed).
-
This is exactly why I don't buy compilation CDs anymore. I do not want to continue to purchase the same songs over and over again.
-
I'm one of the lurkers.
Generally it's me taking a quick peek while at work, as the funk/soul obsession
won't allow me to have 8 hours of music free thought.....
If I'm not too tired, I'll throw in a comment when I get home,
but at my post count shows, I can be quite lazy or on e-bay.....
-
Had a little parcel drop thru my letterbox today
UNDISPUTED TRUTH - CALIFORNIA SOUL - GORDY
JAMES RIVERS - TIGHTEN UP - EIGHT-BALL
ROY ROBERTS EXP - YOU MOVE ME - HOUSE OF THE FOX
Bought the last two blind. All for a very small sum indeed

That James River & Roy Roberts Exp are great.
I'm gonna have to listen to the Roy Roberts when I get home now....

Cheers to everyone for the info. I've written to Dennis and if I get a reply that sheds any more light on the Up Tight lot I'll post it here

If you don't hear anything from Dennis, let me know. I bump into him fairly regularly, and can ask him for you.

I'd like to see a full list.
Probably gonna send you a PM, too.

What's it gonna cost me to get a copy to the States? Thanks.
