  1. I have 2 of her 45s:

It Takes a Whole Lot of Lovin / Lo Lo

Too Hot Too Hold / Salem

    My questions:

    a. The Queen on Rush - anyone have a soundclip?

    b. What else is there in her discography?

    Would like to hear more.

  2. These are all brilliant stories, but is anyone still picking up piles of 45s for a few cents from people's lofts and yard sales in the US? It's a big place after all and there can't be more than a few hundred soulies looking, if that.

I have yet to bump into any decent 45s at a yard sale here in the States. Ocassionally there may be a decent soul 45 at a flea market, but that is not as often as I would like. At best it's LPs I'll buy to make some money on & then put towards a decent record. I did stumble on about 20 45s at a thrift shop last year, which I was quite happy about, as I never find decent 45s at thrift shops.. The 45s were a mixed bunch, from doo-wop to blues to r'n';b to soul. The soul 45s were Fred Hughes "Don't Let It Happen to Us" on Brunswick, Sam Dees "Can You Be a One Man Woman" on Chess, and Judy Freeman & Blackrock "All We Need Is A Miracle" on RCA. I sold the 2 doo-wop 45s - it paid for the lot and I had a few dollars left over.

  3. I have 2 copies of Mark Murphy "Why Don't You Do Right" 45 on black label Riverside.

Unplayed old store stock, they look EX.

    $100 postage paid from USA.

    Paypal fine.

Yeah, not soul, but thought some of you might be into mod jazz.

Please send an e-mail to djr45 (at) comcast.net if interested.

    Thanks.

  4. re - playlists, a few things i'm sure we played from last Friday night in pittsburgh:

Wales Wallace - Somebody I know

    Spellbinders - Help Me

Five Stairsteps - Don't Waste Your Time

Bobby Earl Williams - That's the Way She Is

Blossoms - That's When the tears start

New Young Hearts - young hearts get lonely too

Viola Wills - I Got Love and DOn't Kiss me helloa nd mean goodbye

    Soul Suspects - Handle it

Charles Sheffield - It's your voodoo workin

    Elva Bronson - I Just Can't See

    Ultra High Frequency - Incompatible

Voices of East Harlem - Cashin In

Lew kirton - heaven in the Afternoon

We always play locals (Chuck Corby; Soul Communicators; L. Allen; Basic SOunds), plenty of motown, and plenty of what you'd call 'oldies' but which are new to our audience. Mostly '60s sound, but some later stuff and some weird stuff.

You have a website or can you let me know the future dates of your soul night? I'd like to visit Pittsburgh this summer & would like to take in some sounds while I'm there.

  5. not sure if this is sad or funny, but a large postal truck got into an accident outside Philadelphia (not too far from where I live), spilling the contents all over the road. All I could think of was "I hope none of the 45s I recently purchased off the internet were in that trailer".....

  6. rather strange than great, but it thought i should share with you: pe(e)on productions whistling.gif :

Interesting record. I like the stoned out fuzz funk version of California Dreaming on the flip.

Might have to give it a spin tonight.
