  1. Actually Russ, I agree with alot of what Jocko has written and sometimes I even find myself agreeing with Mr Darcy too. But I also see the side where people just want to go out and dance and forget about everything. Oh and sorry about the man flu....if you ent seen this.....
  2. Written like an eloquent Mr Darcy.......
  3. Take the dancers out of the equation and what are you left with?? DJ's and promoters complaining on SS that their particular do is half or nearly empty and wanting a cull of someone else 's do. In my opinion this scene is primarily about the music and expressing yourself to that music, i.e, dancing. Everything else is secondary.
  4. But our hearing deteriorates with age as does every part of the body, so no two people would hear "exactly" the same thing anyway.
  5. Those that are OVO state that on the flyers anyway? if it don't say OVO can one assume that boot's carvers etc are played? On that basis, people pays their money and take their choice. Maybe there should be a OVO logo that people slap on their flyers, a bit like Abta, Corgi and the like? At the end of the day, it's a (supposedly) free country and if I wanted to start up a night, in direct competition to someone 2 miles up the road and was just going to play cd's, then no one can stop me...... not that I would want to do such a thing, but it would be my freedom of the market to do so.
  6. So if I see a load of miserable looking f*ckers wearing bowler hats, red carnation and ties, dragging hapless dj's from thier Northants beds and culling them to death in the street, I can assume this is the soul police?
  7. Well, at the risk of sounding a total creep Sian ...... you've more than paid me and all the other Rugby regulars by sticking your financial neck on the block for so long in the early years so that we have a great night to attend.
  8. Yeah..... not sure if it was a wise move in retrospect if the place fill up with tourists.... but I just wanted to hear a mention of a current nighter and not just yesteryear and as Rugby is on this Saturday........
  9. She get's a backkie........ lol...... although the Nene Valley is still flooded so I might just have to take the car, complete with radio........

  17. Ah, the Sharpettes, another fab pyschish tune being tugged towards soul. Or is it the other way round?
  18. I came into Northern Soul from a psych direction and when I first heard Gypsy-Dry Well, I was amazed it was classed as a Soul spin. However, it's a great tune whichever pidgeon hole one cares to bung it into and I'd love to hear it played out.

  20. Wasn't there a big article in The Guardian, or the like in the mid 90's entitled something like 'White men can dance"?
  21. How about 'It's only a Northern song'? The Harvery Averne Dozen do a great version of 'The word' from Rubber Soul. Tabs will have a blue fit if he see's this thread!
  22. I don't know how you make that assumption from the article when there is this line; "That Soul Sound with the Up North Groove" and his reference was the club where it truly began, the legendary Twisted Wheel in Manchester. One can nit pic but generally I though it was a pretty good article but then, what do i know!
  23. Northern soul saved me from a very deep and dark place......... Fantastic music, fantastic people despite this forum sometimes giving the opposite impression........
