  1. In fairness Simon, there's plenty of labels bandied about, 'Soul Police', 'Chinstokers', 'Oldies/baggies brigade', 'Divs' etc. I'm sure there's a potential patch for every type of person on the soul scene.
  2. Top post Bogue, you sum it up for me. Flippin eck, and I thought art circles had some people that took themselves waaaaaaaaay too seriously.
  3. The more I read this thread, the more I hate the word 'punter".......... But your right, who needs DJ's to dictate the tunes...... I scour the internet, blag cd's from mates, and scrounge mp3's from the lads I know with the sounds. All I can hope when i go out is that a dj with similar taste to mine will play the tunes I like so I can have a dance. Tune wise, I'm educating myself.......
  4. Great post Pete, and nice Boxer dog.
  5. That's sort of where I'm coming from. Fair play to the dj's who have done the crate digging and bought over all these wonderful tunes and they get the respect they deserve. But at the end of the day, they own the record, not the music.
  6. Absolutely Steve............ actually, more so! I'm trying to get my head around this thread and the only way I can try and make sense of it is to compare it to the art world, even though it may not be "like for like" comparison. Got to say I've found it a very interesting read (the personal mud slinging aside) and I'm trying to come to terms with my ability to be able to agree with two conflicting opinions at the same time.....
  7. Although I laughed out loud at this comment, I've not been able to stop thinking about it. As a (relatively unknown) artist, if someone was to take one of my limited edition prints to another country, display it in a gallery with my name covered up by someone else's slapped on top, I'd be mightily f*cked off........... Would I be unreasonable to feel like that?
  8. You jammy git Johnny, I got told off for requesting an MP3
  9. I need to watch it again as an antidote to the feelings generated on the OVO thread......
  10. Actually, that was one of the best things about the item, it wasn't a plug for Reg's book, or SOS, it was a "plug" about a man's love for his music and the difficulties of life and how to overcome them, with a big smile on your face. Well done to the BBC for getting it right. It's about time white, English, middle aged, working class bald blokes had some good press for once! Oh and Michele.....I really look forward to the day when the whole of the Fens reverts back to it's former state!!
  11. Cheers..... not my usual type of sound but nice none the less!
  12. I thought Reg was going to say, 'well get them shoes off for a start!' Never seen Chris look so serious, he usually has a huge grin on his face...... I like the tune they played when Reg was walking past the shops, never heard that one before. Yep, SOS should be packed on Saturday!
  13. They didn't show where Reg's tongue was.......
  14. I have the same trouble with Firefox and have to revert to Safari....... Like the tune!
  15. Well, just finished watching it and I thought it was a really heart warming little film. Showed Reg being as passionate as he is, played some great tunes, the 'W' word was only mentioned once and the presenter was pretty fit too! Nice one.
  16. They have three stories in a 30 min programme so I would imagine there will be 10 m ins of N.S max.... And there is the watch again facility.........
  17. But one man's good record Beeks, is another person's cue to go to the loo! I could give you a cd of my fave 30 tunes and you may think it's crap! Then we could accuse each other of having no taste!
  18. As a mere punter, the highlighted sentence is the one that has made the most sense in the 10 pages of this thread. At the end of the day, people own a copy (even if it is OV) of the music, they don't own THE music!
  19. I can appreciate that........ it's a bit like when I see someone using my artwork without my permission.......
  20. F*ck that, I'm too busy enjoying myself. The only time I'll go up to the decks is to ask a DJ what that brilliant tune I've never heard was. Case in point, 'Too young for me"' by the Ambassadors which was spun in the freestyle room at Rugby last Saturday. . I now have an MP3 of said tune which I've flogged to death since! . If I could find it, or any tune that grabs me for under £20 (pref under £15) on OV then I buy it because a record has history dripping from it and unlike an MP3 you can actually touch it. I would never dream of asking a DJ "is that the original" because I'd have no way of verifying whether it was or not and like I said, I go out on a Saturday night to dance.......
  21. I've never once considered "is this the original" when I'm on the dancefloor...... frankly it's the last thing on my mind.....
  22. The definition of someone into R&B, a "DULLR&B" (only joking, I love it me....) Apologies if I'm not taking this seriously any more......
  23. Cheers Mark, I'll be able watch it on the account that Northants is officially in the BBC Carrot crunching country and "Look Narrich" is my favourite news programme..... A quick look at the website....... https://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/east/index.shtml and it says that if you miss anything, you can catch up so looks like you won't miss it after all!
