  1. You won't get much better than this for a hammond instrumental Gareth, in my opinion. Shades of 'Light my fire' by the Doors me thinks.
  2. Green onions and Tomatoes sliced! And that's just me in the kitchen making green tomato chutney. Any excuse to post up this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XfL12SCqE4
  3. Never heard the vocal version before, just gave it a spin on YT, flippin excellent and yes, I agree, the vocals give it more soul! Cheers.........................and just for Bearsy!
  4. This is probably the very type of tune Bearsy would hate,,,,,,,apart from the fact that it never gets played out.........but I really like it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnm3V5-WmVM
  5. You mean you don't like this Bearsy?
  6. The start of this tune was made for halloween!
  7. I use the Facebook groups to try and hear new stuff so depending on my mood, I will got to 'Beat Ballard Heaven, Soulful Funk pages etc or raid the wall of a friend whose taste in tunes I appreciate. To discuss or read discussions, the Soul Source is the place. My 14 daughter is music mad and seems to have a very wide taste in tunes but I'm glad she thinks Justin Beiber and One Direction are crap and prefers obscure Indie bands. What I think is very different is the way today music is consumed. My daughter has a vast library of music at her fingertips via Youtube where as when I was 14 I had to save up to buy an album which I flogged to death until I could afford to buy another one. Apart from raiding my older siblings record collections (on pain of death) while they were out on a Saturday night, the only music I heard came via Radio 1/Luxembourg and TOTP.
  8. I was there too, great gig. The backing singers were filming the crowd! Other stand out performances, Edwin Starr, gave nothing less than 100%, Joe Bataan and Anne Sexton. Off the scene, Slade were always brilliant, and, unexpectedly good......America (horse with no name) and the Inspiral Carpets.
  9. I do alot of countryside walking and soon as I hear the first Baaaaaaaaaa, I have that flipping 'Shaun the sheep' theme tune in my head for the rest of the walk.
  10. I thought the term was 'earworm' ? Anyway mine is 'My love is real' by The Experts.
  11. Agreed Ian........ if they have managed to retain a full head of hair! Likewise Teddy boys, as with Mods the hairstyle is an integral part of the look. Not so with soulies and if you are gonna be sweating your head off all night and throwing yourself about on a dance floor, then being self concious about your hair style ent gonna work! Luckily, it's something I and quite a few others don't have to worry about any more!
  12. Maybe because on the mod scene, music/dancing comes second to looking cool where as on the Northern scene the clothes, vest, baggy trousers etc are more about trying to stay cool and not being hindered by tight clothes if you do the acrobatics. When I'm sweating my bollox off in jeans I sometimes wish I was wearing a pair of cotton bags tbh. I also think there's an illusion of better footwork with 30 ins of cotton flapping around ones ankles, ditto the women 'shuffle' spinning wearing a circle skirt. Just my opinion and observation, not having a pop at anyone.
  13. Here's a text I had from a non soulie but music loving mate after last nights programme. 'U watching the culture show? It's all about Northern Soul. It's Brilliant. Making me wanna join in.........' Whether it ends up being a good or bad thing if my mate, or loads like him around the country do join may depend on your perspective........

  16. Had some great chats with Dave out and about. As Baz said, he had a wicked/mischevious sense of humor. A sad loss. RIP Dave.
  17. Ok, I've chosen these three because they really do make me run to the dance floor and thats partly because one doesn't hear them too often. In no particular order Jimmie & Vella Cameron - Lovin' You Is Such A Groove Two People - Stop. Harvey Averne Dozen - Never learned to dance. Also got to throw in Manny Corchado - Pow Wow
  18. I'm sure there are lots of people who care when events get cancelled.
  19. I think Vintage failed in London, hence moving back to a more 'festival' style footing like VAG. Boughton would have been fantastic venue but I fear we'll never know now.
  20. See post 28.
  21. Flippin love this one, what a voice! Johhny Gilliam -Find yourself another.
  22. Great thread! Here's a couple of my favourites; Maybe beat ballard tea dances is the future when everyone is old and knackered.......
  23. To turn the question on it's head, I wonder how many of us, should we live past 100, would put our longevity down to lots of dancing, late nights and whatever our fancy is for a night out.
  24. Come down with me then John, I do Lewes Bonfire every year!
  25. Someone doing a spin, sandwiched between Lewes Bonfire:
