  1. I'd like to thank the soulie who gave me £2.00 for the parking meter at The new century soul club nighter, Manchester, a couple of years back. Never could find him to return the money once I'd got change. Cheers mate!
  2. I'm with you there Karen. Besides, who can sleep properly on a muggy Summer's night? may as well be out dancing!
  3. Just being from Peterborough on it's own is worrying enough! Up the Cobblers!
  4. So am I!! I was quite happy being soulsearcher until you turned up!
  5. Sound like Dexy's Midnight Runners!
  6. I've changed my name from soulsearcher to Maark due to the confusion arising from Soul searcher's Kev Roberts post. Also I very occassionally receive PM's for Keith of Soul searcher records so a change is due!
  7. BBC 6 'oclock news have just shown a peice about the re-release of The Omen (the date being 6/6/06) To pad it out they showed images from the seventies, punk, fashion and Northern Soul dancers (at Wigan) at which point the reporter mention "bad dance moves..."
  8. My seven year old daughter loves soul and has loads of favourites. In the car, that's all we listen too However, on the occassion of her 6th birthday party, which was a disco, I asked her if i should bring along some of her favourite soul tunes. "No dad, they only playing GROOVY music!" she replied!
  9. I'm relatively new to Soul and even newer to the idea of buying records. However, as work takes me to the States each year, I thought I would try my hand at unearthing a jem. After a bit of detective work, I eventually find the only record shop in Albuquerque selling vinyl. I begin perusing, trying to look like I know what I'm doing when suddenly...........nothing happened! There was no gang of home boys trying to run me outta town, no slimy giant blood curdling cockroaches, no fit birds gagging to get me kecks off, no dismembered head concealed under the record racks. Nothing. Not a sausage! Not even a rare record for 20 cents (well there might have been but I'm too green to know one if it hit me round the face). But thanks to everyone for taking the time to post up your tales, it's been the best read I've had for ages!
  10. I think it's worth a try! Motown is still very popular, just ask Paddy Grady about the numbers he get's at his do's! Another good idea is what Rugby do and give over the smaller room to anyone who want s to play their soul collection! Actually , anything is better than a Modern room!
  11. What is the most pointles thread about Soul that you have thought about posting, but did'nt, due to it's pointlessness. This is mine.......
  12. If I had a record collection that was being fought over, and my state of mind at the time of my matromonial split, I would have sawn the lot of them in half and she could have had hers. I suppose I was lucky in that my divorce gave me a new life and that new life was the soul scene which aided my rehabilitation greatly...... Good luck to anyone going through what is a utterly miserable time.
  13. I was round me Mum's and she had it on and as a huge Slade fan was watching the show and yes, O'grady did say that he used to go to Wigan Casino and dance all night with a change of clothes halfway through. Slade were big Motown and soul fans too and Noddy Holder's fave tune is a soul record and I've been flipping through his Autobiog to find out what it is cos I've forgotten.......
  14. He's also playing at "Central" in Kettering , Northants on Sunday Nov 6th. There's a mini dayer, 5-12. £10.00 to get in. Perfect for those who have Guy Fawkes duties on the 5th!
  15. And I would argue that people say "north of the Watford Gap", when they mean north of Watford. I bet most people don't even know where the Watford Gap is or are we allowed to generalise about the loaction of specific places?
  16. When you say north of Watford GAP, is this what you mean, or do you mean Watford? There is a difference and it's about 50 miles. The Watford Gap, so named after the village of Watford, Northants, and the gap in the Northamptonshire Uplands. The other Watford is a big town just north of London, Herts. If you DO mean the Watford Gap, then I live 1 mile north of the Gap, if you draw a line across the country, in Irthlingborough. I am therefore, a hard as nails whippet owning pidgeon fancier, where as Glyn -W, Lisa Vanner and Bazbond, 2miles down the A6 in Rushden are Soft southern shandy drinking bed wetters. The north/south thing is pertinent to N. Soul so I don't consider this off topic...off tangent maybe..........
  17. How about "Groovin with (Dr?) Bloe" by (Dr?/Mr) Bloe. Heard it played at a couple of soul do' and never would have had it down as Northern Soul cos I only had previously remembered it as a 70's chart hit. Although it might not be N.S.P.C. to say, I like it!
  18. Thanks all! I'm still fiinding me way around a new computor and I'm new here too.........
  19. Somebody, somewhere posted the track Never Learned to dance Harvey Averne Dozen 4 which I duly downloaded, loved and have now lost. I've looked and looked :search: and can't for the life of me find it. Can someone point me in the right direction...cheers!
  20. Actually I twatted my own post up cos Deep Soul doesn't start until NEXT Saturday, but what the heck, we've got a time machine, right?
  21. Cheers Mate! I'll give that a go and report results. Just one thing more......I lost Never Learned to dance Harvey Averne Dozen 4 and need to re-download it.........any idea where it is??
  22. I'd go to the Stafford Reunion this Saturday, pop back home to Northants tape this Saturday's Dr Who, Deep Soul and Lord of the Rings which are all pretty much on the same bloody time:ranting_1: and then back to the queens hall without missing anything!
