  1. Yeah, Stanley Unwin, another idiot from Northamptonshire........
  2. Did the 3 cocks last night, thanks to Kettering Scooter Club, for turning up. ************************************* Oo-wer! & to think I was in the vicinity last night too! Would have paid good money to see that spectacle!
  3. That's Kettering for ya!
  4. As the thread is "sleeping dogs lie"...... I've swapped a difference of opinion with Tony Parker on recent threads, more to stick up for Northants and Jemco (who got me into Northern Soul) rather than because I particularly disagree with Tony's point of view. When I arrived at the Embankment on Friday, various recent threads were being discussed in the corridors........ Then I saw Tony. We exchanged greetings, agreed that what we want from a night differed and instead of exchanging insults, we are exchangin sounds (OK, Tony is sending me some stuff to further my soul education, I alas have little to offer in return ). So however serious some of the recent threads get, remember, we are all on the same side in the greater scheme of things.
  5. I want to!! Look at the Latest Rare and Northern Soul News. Northampton weekender, the Elgin's as appearing for the first time in 25 years. Jemco starting a "on the rare side" event in Wellingborough and Full fat and funky nights up for a best club night award. And I know this isn't fair, but the other two bits of news are Sheridans cancelled, Burnley cancelled. Maybe it isn't so sh*t around here as people like to make out. Viva Northants and up the Cobblers. The other point I would like to make that Tony Parker alluded to is about promoters making money. It's almost impossible to aim for a break even point. You'll either make money, or you'll lose it. If you make money, great as that can be put aside to make up for the time when you lose it. If you make lots of money, good luck to ya that you may make a living out of something that you love and even fairer play those promoters like Jem who give any profit to charity. I'm off to Lennie's do now........
  6. I'll second that!! Nice one Bogue.
  7. Whilst I appreciate the sentiments of the DJ's and collectors (of which I'm neither) can I just say I don't give a flying f*ck what format a tune is played in. I just want to enjoy myself when I go out.Dance first, ask questions later. In the end the music was made to dance to. Shoot me down if you want.......
  8. It's in our history! Why do you think the deciding battle of the English Civil War was fought in Northants? Let me get me helmet and I'll be back.........
  9. Well, whatever. You are sounding like an old cracked record stuck in the "I hate Northants" groove yourself, which has been your only repetitive contribution so far to the site. What's the matter, buy a duff pair of shoes along the line somewhere?
  10. That was the double meaning of my "joke" Win but after reading Ken's reply I kinda gave up the will to live, continue to post.....
  11. Then I dedicate A lucky Fella/ The Jades to you!
  12. He ought to get out more....Same old "if it ent played in wigan it ent Northern soul" sh*te. YAWN!
  13. No 1 in the bedroom?
  14. I've seen plenty of people fall A over T on white powder tho.
  15. No mate, you ent stopping me from drinking and I'll drink where I like....... I would'nt even walk across the dance floor with a drink in my hand tho. Are you going to stop people who take drugs to keep them going all nighters as well?
  16. Gotta have something to do while the played out oldies are spinning, eh Baz? Blimey, I can't see why those who don't want to drink just let those that do get on with it. There's never any trouble and 99% of people on the scene seem to be able to handle their beer. Mine's pint, cheers!
  17. Great thread, but I'll take issue with you calling Slade dross. You need to play the b sides!
  18. Lenny Dopson drops in 'Move on up'/Curtis Mayfield which sounds awesome juxtaposed with Len's modernish/rare set.
  19. There's the rub. Some people on the scene think a good record is a rare record, whether 'rare' means price or the amount you hear it played out, i don't know ...... but that doesn't make it nessecarily a good dance floor record. I'm sure tho, there are plenty of rare records that are would be great dance floor records if only we could get to hear them! On the other hand, there are those POPular records that some would turn their noses up at but fill a floor every time. At the end of the day,it's an individual taste. Crikey, it would be boring if we all liked exactly the same thing!
  20. As one of the last records of the night at "Sounds of Soul" at Hemel Hempstead on Saturday Reg introduced "Seven rooms of gloom/Four Tops as one to sort the men out from the boys. He ent kiddin, what a fantastic track but impossibly fast! The head said "no' but the beer said GO!
  21. Your talking out your ar*e mate. Anyway, for a start, KR's criteria is based on past "glories" as much as anything. I'm sure that "Soulful Bob's tastes and distance people travel to events" will be part of Kev Robert's criteria for deciding the 10 ten soul area's next time he re-publishes his 500, now that he know you exist. I see loads of Northants soulies out and about across the country and if you don't maybe you ought to get out more. Not getting into an arguement.
  22. geopgraphy sp. See Me. Mandy, I think you would find generally that soul is concentrated mainly in the most populated areas of Britain, what was once reffered to as the "Industrial Coffin" (1933-37) and more latterly "Megalopolis" (1974) This runs N.W-S.E from Lancashire and West Yorks through the midlands, down to London. Mark, Geography O level, grade C but keen student...... .
  23. You have a point there.......... But I think it's much better to got to a football match and vent one's frustrations there than in a say, one on one road rage incident. In fact, there's nothing better than an afternoon up the Cobblers ( ) shouting yer head off at someone else's inadequacies, whether the ref or players. Win or lose, I look forward to a complete contrast of un-macho ness at a soul night.
  24. I went to a pub quiz the other day and one of the questions was; Which one of the following is a Soul record label a) Ent b ) Kent c) Shent Ok, so I made it up but anyone from round here will know what I'm on about...
  25. I'm not sure if any women have pointed it out in this thread yet, but my female friends/sisters say one of the BEST things about the soul scene is that, it they wanted to, they could go to a do on their own and feel totally comfortable which in this day and age is really something! Of course though, as you have discovered, that is partly due the the guys placing the music above women in order of importance, Just for a few hours mind....
