  1. Can't disagree with your first paragraph Baz and yes, i believe to keep it fresh for yourself, it's good to get out and about. Unfortunately, time & Money become a consideration in that respect.
  2. --> QUOTE(Mike B @ May 3 2007, 10:22 PM) link <!--quotec-->Lets kick off with this one - not sure what the record sounds like but saw it on ebay in the soul section - cracking label design, I've never seen 'Shock' labels with this design .... anyone else? Looking at all the record labels at the back of KR's top 500 has inspired me to decorate my house using some of the designs. I will post up the final results, when I eventually get round to it!
  3. So you can't be passionate dancing your arse off to your favourite tune if it's only a few miles away and the record isn't rare. I see! Perhaps someone should set up "Soul Miles". The more miles you travel, the more points you get and when you've got say 10,000 you get a rare record. It's like "football miles" (see freebasing) but in reverse because travelling a long way to support another team just isn't dereguer.
  4. Every other county thinks it's "God's own" (which I suppose they all are in thier own way) which is why we are the "Rose". Good luck with Soulshakers on Saturday Dave, this is one of the events I really want to do, but can't this month!
  5. I think you'll also find that 99% of the soul world don't really care what you think either Baz. You don't have to read it!
  6. I'd never want to live anywhere else Paddy! (Apart from Rutland!)
  7. The weather. That's hot at the minute. Lots of current fave's .....Gold of my life, the Mixed Emotions and I don't have to- The Quotations are two that spring to mind.
  8. You could play a special request from his new wife........"I don't need no doctor/Ray Charles? That's if he's got a sense of humour!
  9. Inspired by Pete-S's indie thread in Freebasing, I dug out some of my 1980's indie compilation tapes and to my amazement, as I'd completely forgot about it, "Have love will travel" comes belting out the speakers courtesy of Leicester band, Crazyhead. Talk about coincidence!
  10. Mine too.....with the Ringleaders -Baby what as happened to our love a close second!
  11. If anyone could email me an MP3 of "Too Late" by Williams and Watson, i would be really grateful! Cheers.
  12. Mine to! Got a freebie CD from St Ives with a version of said song by Richard Berry. Don't ask me to post a sound clip though....
  13. So was I in regards to yours, 118 I hope the Gashers isn't of him!
  14. I want this played at my funeral and as my epitaph (makes a change from "I told you I was ill"). What a tune, probably my all time favourite!
  15. "Wade in the water" refers to the slaves crossing a river from a slave state to a free state. Well, according to Radio 4!
  16. There's a dayer at the Pemberton centre Rushden, which is about 60 miles north of London. I'm really looking forward to this one! The Pembo is a great venue! 17. Fantastic article. The juxtapostion of black American soul artists who think their careers have been for nowt and a load of fantatical white British people who seek and revere (and dance) to , as Ady Croadsell says, the b side to their biggest flops, is a facinating one. It's like we've all been having a 30 year odd party to their creations but nobody has told them! Would make a great film!
  18. I believe they are playing at the Northampton weekender in the spring. Get those records signed!
  19. You have been into Northern Soul too long when you are amazed that anyone could possibly find a bunch of middle aged men dancing alone, with no women, strange.
  20. Class flyer!
  21. Pee-turd-boro-ugh! is further north than Birmingham!
  22. That's the answer! Get rid of the modern rooms and replace it with a Soul creche for the under 25's!
  23. I think there are some worthy replies but my take on it is that the music is so consuming and takes over so as to obliterate anyone else in the room, thus it would be a waste of time anyone else dancing with you.
  24. Do I love you (indeed I do) Frank Wilson.......then I'd flog it, buy some decent sounds and have a bloody good holiday, buy a new car, pay off the mortgage........etcetera, etcetera!
  25. I like the Frank Pop stuff too........Hip Teens got an airing on "Grandstand" today, of all places!
