  1. In order to save the Soul scene from it's perilous state, there ought to be a Soul Summit. When everyone has finished arguing about who should be at the negotiating table, a list should be drawn up of what records should be "set aside", what venue's ought to be put out to grass for the greater good and which promoters should be taken out at dawn and summarily shot. So, that's names of; The Soul Steering committee. Tunes to be targeted for "The Vinyl Solution" Venue's to be vanquished. Promoters to be punished for crimes against soulmanity Go on, I dare ya!
  2. I'm confused here..... If you leave the Soul scene for say 10 years or so coz you get into, say Jazz Funk, can you still claim the moral high ground when you come charging back onto the scene??
  3. I can't afford to buy vinyl but made a special ebay purchase last week of my current fave..... "I aint gonna" by the Five Stairsteps....... My neighbour fixed my turntable on the day the record arrived and it hasn't stopped spinning since! I'd forgotten how good it felt to plonk needle on plastic. Why, I might even by some more tunes and start deejaying!
  4. Mine is "I say yeah" by the Pets. This tune always pops into my head, esp when I'm in a good mood. The only problem is, it's a bit embarrassing to find yourself singing "got a letter from my boyfriend" at the top of your voice ..........
  5. [Chris and Marcelle, Just want to say that from the first NSC at Manchester Co-op to the last one I attended at Brookfields I have always got a very friendly welcome and the most fantastic soul music......... You always tried to give the paying customer the best ....... You will be missed on the door........but welcome on the floor! Thanks!!!! Mark
  6. Cleethorpes being called "Cleggy" (it should be Cleethy, surely?) People who were into Jazz funk for 10 years but are now died in the wool chinstrokers but look down on everyone else. Anyone that has "Burnley " in 7 points lettering in their signatures. Postman Pat lookalikes. "Events" thread spoilers....even though they have never been or intend to go. Think that just about covers it for me!
  7. I remember listening to a Northern Soul DJ interviewing a soul artiste (can't recall names of either) on TV Pontins at Prestatyn. The DJ was so anxious to impress his guest with his soul knowledge that each "question" was about 10 minutes long and contained all the info that had said soul artiste been allowed to get a word in, would have said for himself. That just left soul artiste to say yes, or no in agreement to Mr know it all's questions. I wanted to hear the soul artiste speak for himself and so grating was the interviewing technique, I switched off.
  8. Doh! Thanks Tabs! One is prone to making mistakes when one went out enjoying ones self the night before, even if I hadn't driven 200 miles waving my northern soul b*ll*cks out the car window.
  9. My conclusion on this thread is that there are some people trying to tell other people what to do on a night out because they know better.
  10. And how many soul do's have you been to in Northants in able to be able to comment? Havn't seen any of your rantings in lookbacks about a Northants soul do YOU'VE ACTUALLY BEEN TO! In fact, you didn't even go and support your best mate Cliffe Steele at his RARE soul nights at Silks, even though you are fighting a one man soul jihad against Paddy Grady in particular and Northants in general. No, instead of going to a Rare soul night put on by your best mate, you chose to go to Luton.
  11. F**kin eck, call that progress?? I think you need a different analogy! You only have to look at the sterility of the Premiershite to see what you are advoctaing........All gloss, money and very little passion. Is that what you are calling for? And some of us might just like our crappy little clubs with our low attendances...........
  12. Sh*t.......I've been rumbled!!
  13. Which is a good reason to have a "lifts wanted" & a "lifts offered" section on SS. Split the costs, meet new people and hear new tunes! It makes sense! The price of fuel is far from levellling out either....
  14. Agreed, great little film and loved the track played. Glad it wasn't a OPO at least!

  16. About 1970-71 when Thurston's fair rolled into Irthlingborough, Tighten Up Volume 2 was played on a loop on the Octupus! You could always hear the music wafting on the warm Summer air ages before before you could actually see the fair. Mind you you could smell dodgy burger and onions before you even heard the music!
  17. Your best bet Paul, is not to read anything on here and just do your own thing regardless. No one can stop you, whatever their opinions, experience, record collection, yada, yada, and at the end of the day, you don't need anyone's permission either.
