  1. Nice refreshing post Andy!
  2. Someone ought to be selling rotten tomatoes, they'd make a fortune. You up in Northampton tomorrow Mr Goldwa?
  3. I can just hear a young film executive saying "Wow, man, look at all those....... er, what are they?"
  4. I wasn't talking about your age.
  5. Just cos you used to be 40+, there's no need to be getting all arsey these days! Mwah Mwah!
  6. Blimey Gail, your not even on set yet and your calling people "Luvvie" . Air kisses all round!
  7. Agreed Simon! Plus, I never went to Wigan so would feel a bit of a Charlatan! But thats just me!
  8. I'm a bald, 40+ bloke, and that's why I'm not going (apart from that, I don't want to miss Northampton v Millwall). Mind you, I still weigh the same as I did when I was 20 so with a decent wig and sympathetic lighting and being shoved to the back, I may get away with it. Anyway Simon, this begs the question, will I be welcome at any of your do's??
  9. Surely one of the best compliments anyone can pay a tune is to get up and dance to it. That is appreciation!
  10. Bloody hell, you really have got a sense of humour failure! I mentioned the Beatles films merely as a comparison. Great iconic 60's films with a sense of the time, great music and humour! I bet you've been to see loads of porn films but it don't mean your gonna get your leg over the next day! How's that for glib!
  11. Lighten up Tabs......... all the Beatles films had lots of humour in them. It has to work on lots of levels......
  12. You beat me to it....... At the end of the day, if those that went to Wigan were commissioning the film with their own money, they could call the shots. The film has got to have a wide(ish) appeal in order to justify the expense of doing it and that is the hard commercial truth, I'm afraid. How about this. The film opens with Amy, Duffy, Weller stuff....... Young lad brings his girlfriend home and says "Dad, we're just going up to my room to listen to some soul music. Dad. "Call that shite you listen to soul? When I was a lad ...........screen goes all wobbly as viewer is transported back to the 1970's etc.
  13. It's good to know he's lost none of his charm then.......
  14. Dunno about you Trev, but a well fitted wig and I might be able to get away with being an extra as I still have the body of a 24 year old. Oh, I'll need the dancing lessons as well! Anyways. wasn't "Saturday Night Fever" based on Wigan Casino?
  15. I think it's that northerners are generally much less self conscious than southerners and are used to bellowing loudly, here, there and everywhere, at all and sundry, with or without a mic around. And most people of a certain age were bought up on northern mic action with "The Wheeltappers and Shunters Club" . It's the same with joke telling, some accents just sound funnier than others when delivering a joke.
  16. Surely if you started calling yourself female or women DJ's instead of "girlies" you may start the ball rolling in people taking you more seriously. My perception (rightly or wrongly) differs greatly regarding girlies v women.
  17. The night that springs to mind to me is the Pemberton where you get just about everything in one night and the crowd make up reflects that. Everyone seems to have a good time too!
  18. I think you have a point in your earlier post Goldwax. I have mates same age as you and were (and still are) well into that "southern soul scene" which for them began in the 80's. They have no real interest in the Northern 60's scene, apart from cursory curiosity and chose to go to their club nights in London and Essex. I went to one of their nights and it did nothing for me. In fact I would rather go to a rave to be honest! But as I had my formative years growing up in the 60's and 70's like many people on this site, it may stand to reason that we are more embedded with the feel for the style of sound from those decades. (well early 70's anyway).
  19. I've had a look on Youtube to no avail (apart from the theme music) . However, found this classic instrumental....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iH0YdU1L2yU...feature=related
  20. I was watching it! First time I've seen The Prisoner for ages..........I think it was the last of the series as I checked on the info button. As for the end music, I'd fallen asleep by then......
  21. Even though I had to get up at 4.45am , drive to London and work a 12 hour day (the same for the rest of the week) I'm happy............... I didn't go souling at the weekend so am really looking forward to my first trip to Soul Revolution on Friday and Kings hall on Saturday.............. Best of all was play CD of new tunes on the way down, then having them rattling through my head all day...........The drive home was great too...................
  22. Bought a signed Falcons CD, from the band personally when they played their one and only UK gig at Northampton a couple of years ago. They were excellent live and blown away by the reception they got. The CD is much treasured even though admittedly, I don't like most of the tracks on it!
  23. Der! Burnley is a local soul night to Burnley.
  24. I don't know but I'd like to thank all those that do for giving me the best nights out of my life! Thanks all!!
  25. True. Not done the drug thing myself. Its the music thats drug enough for me. Must admit that the takings are pretty good for a small town like Rothwell where we hold the Cream Cracker. The manageress did tell me that the club makes more over the bar from the 4 events we hold there each year than from the other weddings, christenings etc they have there most Saturdays, admittedly the hall is used by 30 linedancers 1 Saturday each month. Which is great because it helps keep the venue open. But i honestly have not noticed anyone blind drunk or even partially falling down by the time we close. So maybe we do drink a lot but the dancing sweats it all out of us, . Kind regards Kev
