After recent finds could we say without fear of contradiction that it would be impossible to make a counterfeit that would fool everyone?
Especially one like say the DB which is the first on that label to appear so no one as reference to any other for comparison? Art forgers have managed to knock up Rembrants etc that have fooled " the experts" for years, and the price these top end records are fetching it must be worthwhile if possible?
There are plenty of people who are convinced man never stepped on the moon and it was all a con, counterfeiting a 7 inch piece of vinyl in comparison would be a doddle surely?

So after 3 pages of debate on here, am I allowed to call my FW on Tamla an original or not?

Mentioned "soul producer Ian Levine".

When's someone gonna do a definitive guide as to who broke what and where records were first played?
Suppose that would divide a lot of opinions too, but that'd be really good.
That would be brilliant, maybe the mods could do some sort of "matrix box thingyo" where people could type in a tune and others could confirm where it was first played, there would then be no need for an ongoing thread on said subject!
Anyway anything that would stop "dr watson" on You Tube from nearly self combusting every time someone mistakenly called a record a Wigan sound when it had been played elsewhere first has got to be worth a go surely!

The start of Tommy Hunt's Loving on the Losing Side not just influenced by Harold Melvin's The Love I Lost but was a complete lift, as admitted by RW many moons ago!

The flats are set further back than where Central railway station was situated, across the other side of the River Douglas if you look at the old map already uploaded!

Having used Station road thousands of times not only going to the Casino but in later years having moved across town I always used the steps at the side of the cinema to walk up Station road to get into town.
I would say Debenham's is situated were the cinema and the car park opposite the Casino was, and the Blue plaque is stuck on the cafe next door to the were the Casino was!

You must have missed the Blue Plaque unveiled the other week downstairs from the cafe.

No and not been for years, to me a Northern Soulie is the baggies badges and whatever, a thing of the 70s, a time gone, if thats your bag, excuse the pun then thats fine, but for me times and fashion has moved on i like what i like old and new and whatevers inbetween, or if you want to tag me just call me a soulie
Sure when Dave Godin coined the phrase he was referring to the type of music rather than the attire?

Hi there
I collect soul since about 12 years and sadly missed the old times without internet.
Now when i have the chance to make a deal over the phone (directly speaking over the phone and get the tunes played to me via turntable) or deal vis a vis or buy a record in a recordshop or at an allnighter or get handwritten lists including cd's. These are the deals i totally appreciate and love and which stay in my mind. I know from who i bought them, sometimes their story, how much i paid and felt some passion.
Ebay is so anonym and without passion. also its too easy if you have money (which i don't )
i know at mo you can get the best profit on ebay with selling but is this the way to go??! i'm not sure. in the first lane we all love the music, don't we?
Now to the point:
- Are there any people prefering these old school deals?
- would there be a chance to build a group doing these deals?
- any people that still do send out handwritten lists and cd's?
I would love to do more deals in the old school way in the future....
any opinions?
Cheerious
Henning
Erm not so sure?
We all hanker for "the good old days" to to some degree.
But you wouldn't say, jump the train or hitch hike 100 miles to an allnighter these days if you had a car on the drive!

Hi Des,
I will have the Lou Johnson, Unsatisfied if you have still got it. You can send it with the Tempests I paid for this morning if you've not already sent it. I will pay you when I get home from work.
Thanks, Andy
