  1. A mate mentioned these boots being done last year, I asked him how he knew about it he said.......... he'd heard it through the grapevine! I'll get my long leather!
  2. The Father Son and Holy Ghost of "The best lines in a record" "Misery is rushing down on me like a landslide "
  3. Remember RS playing it once on his radio show in the 90s (think it was Jazz FM at the time) no introduction, all he said when it finished was "You had to be there"!
  4. One here available out of Todmorden? https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTQ0NFgxNjAw/z/H1QAAOSwstxVLqv~/$_57.JPG
  5. Timeing of a said discovery would surely have massive say on how big tbe record went on to become as well?
  6. An interview with Phil (the collector) Swern which was on the radio yesterday. (Starts at 01.04.50 in the programme) https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05pl7hz The bit on the virtual dukebox sounds amazing!
  7. Fecking hell, thought I'd mastered it then find out there's part 2 and 3!
  8. "but, would like to think he was aware of this thread and he has a bunch of fans for his show he might not have realised anyone know how that might be done ?" I have emailed the show to let him know and posted a link to this thread.
  9. All about him here. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/4nx3l5WqxQkQpJmtSdq16d5/phil-swern-the-record-producer
  10. Sometimes you don't have to tell people your wanted and needed Pete!
  11. It would have to be this, uptempo, brilliant arrangements, crisp lyrics sax break, has the lot!
  12. A Taste of Honey -Boogie Oogie Oogie Used to be played by Russ at the "disco" they had Saturdays before the all nighters at Wigan 79ish.
  13. Ady I bet the two answers you gave and got wrong were, Al Wilson The Snake, and Dobie Gray Out on the floor?
  14. As she alluded to Elton John is a massive soul fan, and by all accounts used to visit The Wheel in the late 60s before he made it big whenever he was gigging in the North West!
  15. If memory serves not long after Craig Charles first appeared in Coronation St, Northern Soul and Wigan got a mention and his characters reply was "yes the Pier, what a club"!
  16. There you go that should keep you busy well into the New Year!
  17. Better still it says.. "must go to a good home"... Now call me a cynic but I reckon if you offered him 6 times the going rate and told him you always "wiped your backside on a record after playing it" you'd still get it!
  18. "The 5 records if I had to rescue from my collection before they all went up in smoke:" 1 My World is on Fire--Jimmy Mack 2 Smoke Gets in Your Eyes -- The Platters 3 Keeps on Burning--Burning Bush 4 Please Operator-- Tony&Tyrone 5 Panic-- Reparata & The Delrons No apologies, it's that's time of year and I' am bored Sh...... witless!
  19. After recent finds could we say without fear of contradiction that it would be impossible to make a counterfeit that would fool everyone? Especially one like say the DB which is the first on that label to appear so no one as reference to any other for comparison? Art forgers have managed to knock up Rembrants etc that have fooled " the experts" for years, and the price these top end records are fetching it must be worthwhile if possible? There are plenty of people who are convinced man never stepped on the moon and it was all a con, counterfeiting a 7 inch piece of vinyl in comparison would be a doddle surely?
  20. So after 3 pages of debate on here, am I allowed to call my FW on Tamla an original or not?
  21. That would be brilliant, maybe the mods could do some sort of "matrix box thingyo" where people could type in a tune and others could confirm where it was first played, there would then be no need for an ongoing thread on said subject! Anyway anything that would stop "dr watson" on You Tube from nearly self combusting every time someone mistakenly called a record a Wigan sound when it had been played elsewhere first has got to be worth a go surely!
  22. The start of Tommy Hunt's Loving on the Losing Side not just influenced by Harold Melvin's The Love I Lost but was a complete lift, as admitted by RW many moons ago!
  23. Don Ray, Born A Loser 1.41?
