  7. No Pete its Pop on trial with Stuart Marconie. Guets were Eddie P, Tony Blackburn & Neil Innes (Bonzo Dog..) nice clips but felt they were mostly making it up as they went along.
  8. Nice one Nev, note the advert in events guide didnt inform the paying punters it was an any format policy, funny that Danny
  9. Just point it out on the advertising and think you'll find the stone throwers wont bother turning up. Perhaps if clubs be they local or national had music mission statement nobody would get upset bout boots, 2nd issues, cds be they played by chaps or chapettes
  10. Didnt Lorena Bobbitt once own a penis for a while albeit her husbands
  11. Not quite this time he was a Charlie drake lookalike dressed up as hip-hops Mr T
  12. Steve, as I instigated the event guess I should reply in some way. The modern room was to placate some who wanted a room for 1 type of music, i didnt get involved with equipment, djs or running order. Thats not a cop out and remember talking with you on the night about your set time (and your dress code) and understood your glum looks when I ventured in there. I'm not sure what the fact most were local djs has to do with it, tho as I told you at time I woulda put you on a bit later, I havnt been aware of the boot thing that transpired that day/night so apologies. regard this debate our main room was 100 original that night and remains so. When I started the club nearly 6 years ago we allowed some boots to encourage the younger djs to play at the monthly events, many obtain boots early in their collections either via freebies from older mates spreading the word or more usually through lack of awareness. The club and collections has grown stronger now no need for any boots. Except unreleased on a carver or sawdust etc. Some argue why not allow cds then, think this makes the dj a little lazy and tempted to play more than one track off a cd, A set should reflect the djs passion and work he put into sourcing and structuring his sets. Offering overplayed past there sell by boots or copying a cd tracklist is apathetic and not why we all got into this scene in the first place. The music I first heard for the most part I still love (hence our occasional oldies night and always play a few every time) but I want to be educated along the way and introduced to new arists and sounds, keeping things edgy not comfy otherwise its just a non stop reminisce world, with "magpie" djs taking the easy option from others hard graft. No need for reputable dealers, anoraks or djs willing to continue taking risks anymore!. At the other extreme I also get peed off with djs who seem unable to play anything under say a £ 1000,again they dont take time to look to adding something fresh unheard and probably cheap to their playlist. There will always be a place for djs/clubs who play boots, I just wish they advertised this fact beforehand. "Serious" nights can also include cheap records and people up for a laugh Btw this year were probably reintroducing a modern room, which I will keep an eye on, the only new releases will be nu soul.
  13. Well done Mike, great 2b back up. Prob should be in tech area but worth mentioning here the search in your members assistant still seems to be working danny
  14. why does stinky outhouse sing with an american accent just like robbie wiliams, (is she trying to be macy gray) imagine otis or jackie singing a pop record with a cockney twang,
  15. Dick lives on the west coast of Ireland in Galway
  16. yep, 3 anthems most "wiganites" will confirm, only liked 1 of em
  17. Hmm in UK 17,000 hospital admissions in a single year of children under 5 are due to their parents smoking' 'smoking kills more than 13 people an hour' what about the cost of smoke breaks and increased sick days from smoking and passive smoking. redecorating one in six cigarettes illegal,so no tax recouped In 2003 there were 593 fire-related deaths in the UK, with 395 deaths from accidental house fires, 35% of which were caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials. Think of the human and financial cost of say the Oxford Circus and Kings Cross fires caused by a cigarette
  18. Pete (this is our health advise off topic bit) looks like a course of diphene to clear the gout then aluprinol tablet daily. Acidic foods, strawberries, shellfish, strong cheese, gravy, offal, too many sweets may trigger it, not just drink. some suggest taking a spoonful of bicarbonate of soda in water. Lotsa water, celery, black cherries n other stuff help lower your acidity levels anyway smoking.. dont meself, here in Ireland its taken a few years for many pubs, venues to build some form of shelter for smokers. Yes think less go out here now tho summer ok. wonder if you could adapt a deep sea divers helmet allowing one to smoke and dance at sametime whilst wearing this new contraption.
  19. Pete you may have a food allergy giving you gout or maybe your body wasnt clear of gout before you stopped drinking
  20. i;d pay 35 just to see gc fantastic showman and thoroughly enjoyable night took me back to the Tymes or Chairmen at the california in 7ts. ok not the originals but hey its over 100 to see macca on his own these days and the guys i saw could sing (not implying macca cant long live the beatles)
  21. as a dealer thought youd be in favour of variation in playlists. I mentioned elgins and curtis off top of my head as 2 equally easily familier safe "uplifting" sounds tho of recent years probably slightly less played compared to mountain (tho realise this is subject to area of globe and type of events you attend). Youve just mentioned another that could be played instead, thats the point for many of us, why have certain records got to be hammered to death by lemmins who hear its been reactivated of late, to a great reception at a packed weekender and force it on you copycat style for next 12 months. Ojays, class record imo have played to great reception in Dublin (oh no hope no lemmins lurking). Whether Ojays or Mountain or Curtis should be played as NS is down to individual taste, thankfully we are allowed to disagree on which one is better. But I get bored when i hear the latest "in" record played by every other dj, be it a reactivate popsoul hit/miss or discovery of many months previous
  22. Many people wouldnt have been around for Elgins first time Pete and it dont get as much plays as Same old mountain, HIYA and many others are just as uplifting, which is more my point why stick with the usual suspects when so many lesser knowns deserve an outing, as a record dealer thought you'd see that
  23. this (ANMHE) has been played over regularly in Dublin for past 10 years
  24. with you Rod, this tune been hammered to death, why not play elgins "heaven must have sent you" or "move on up" by Curtis or summin for a little change if you have to be uplifted by something youve heard a 1000 times before, so many great (cheap) tunes not enough time
  25. Hiya Gasher, "keeping the faith" to me means to live, love and share this great music (and scene sometimes ), so can never understand that other saying thats crept in "dont keep it spread it" if your already keeping it your sharing it aint ya
