  1. Eduard (Ty Karim on here) had that in his sales list Last November for 12 squid
  2. without the naff dancers approach there would be no scene and no one to play your exclusive tunes to! as far as changing views if the same tunes where played at every venue i have to disagree because you know what your going to get at different events and make an informed choice.... as ive said a D.J is judged on his set with most punters and not whether its ov! god we have lives to live, do you think we have sleepless nights about it? I think most rare soul collectors just need to admit they have a habit they cannot control and not try to justify it by slagging off anyone else who dare play a re-issue. I have sleepless nights every month ,it's the name of our club I didn't think I slagged off people who play reissues or boots just said they should be upfront about doing so. Dancers (this includes many a dj) have differing views, some want to dance to same old all night, others willing to hear something for the first time now and again. Rare soul records should remain just that, theirs tons of expensive and cheap tunes no need for them to be hammered by lazy dj's who show no inclination or imagination in looking to keep the scene fresh. Original vinyl ensures you'r gonna hear something different from guys passionately pushing their latest purchase irrespective of cost and cover ups do add a bit of mystery and increase interest in artist when finally revealed. You wouldn't have heard it anyway if not for the crate digger willing to play something unknown. Legit re-issues tend to get hammered too. How many unknowns at an any format night?
  3. Yep I was resisting too The usual naff "as a dancer i dont give a stuff what format" approach, as you say would soon change when they find every copycat playing the same tunes at every venue usually pretending theyre keeping with the ovo. And as been said loads original dont mean expensive big ticket sets always. Thought most got into this underground scene as they were hearing sounds for the first time. And why if it dont matter, do venues never state on the flyer it's an any format event, no its not a hanging offence but be upfront at least bout it? Originals policy keep the scene fresh, if your a dj, work at it, search out them cheap underplayed stuff waiting for a play. Yeah its a mod thing
  4. Hi Ian I use plaxo (free version) saved me a few times. its was an early networking site which is basically a virtual address book, that updates your address book email, phone, birthday and address info really easy, stored in cyberspace. Got recommended by someone on here and have passed on too others Am not aware of any negative with it apart from weekly update message concerning any network changes maybe more teckie members can comment. Hope you get it all back Danny
  5. remember the first time you heard the snake, was that equalled by the 380th time?? Maybe depends on state of body or mind but the more i hear a tune the less likely to get on the dancefloor, some think its a rare soul scene.
  6. I need glasses, thought you were calling it MULDOONS . Which just reminded me of that ditty "Spotty Muldoon" by Peter Cook, think thats classed as a stepper these days
  7. Too much talcum powder
  8. Joan, get to the cinema, think 1 or 2 good films on way... Is the coast clear
  9. Dobie aint grey or white
  10. High waistband- cord baggies. First time i seen them was on top of the pops 1974 Cockney Rebel (Steve Harley) -mr soft was wearing them soon after, less me brain is gone. Added that he was also wearing leather souled oxfords, again memory bit hazy
  11. Didnt think OVO nights stop non released being played, At an OVO night the stardust 45 of the originals can be played cant it? A carver of the Freda Payne as it aint on 45, if it gets good dancefloor reaction people might chase the cd
  12. Rare soul scene, many want to hear and dance to rare soul that don't get played much and a few unheards is a bonus. Tho often you have to trade off with a few well knowns to kick things off/keep every one happy. In this modern techno age why would anyone play a boot are they pretending to play original vinyl, much prefer to see a guy with cd's at least he or she is honest. However Cd's means easier access to our hallowed tunes, we could hear anything, the mystique goes soon and I'll be bored with hearing the rarer Dynamic 3 or Johnny Rogers or the cheaper stuff by downloading copycatting playlists as every Nob, tit and fanny has a zillion downloads to bore sorry entertain us all. The passion you see from a guy playing his original vinyl collection whatever the price can this be replicated by clones? For me a carver is ok it stops (sometimes) the playing of too many off the current hot album for instance. The old divide of Oldies v Modern can be replaced by any format v OVO. Think the jist of this thread is if your into playing any format, be upfront and advertise the fact be it an event or a dj looking for bookings, that way nobody gets upset/cross wires., OVO can seem illogical but when was this scene anything else. Peace
  13. He also had all his records melted down
  14. He's the worlds worst doorman Jill, 2 foot 3", turns up late, costs a fortune in drink then if he's not outside havin a sly one he's on the dancefloor doin the webb-boogie. Think he takes great pride in his TW uniform. Well he's always polishing his helmet according to most folk
  15. I just rang him, yeah its the same daft git
  16. Last seen staggering out of sleepless nights last sunday morning if its the same webbie, teacher, part time doorman, rugby league man, nonstop talking, ex non stop smoking chap. Thought he was from Widnes? He's also a traffic warden, still its better than walking the streets
  17. This was developed by Ramsey Lewis, no sorry got me ramsey's mixed up it was of course Alf Ramsey circa 1966
  18. Exclusivity damn right it is, an underground scene that has refused attempts to go mainstream and doesnt care what outsiders think. Why do you and others cite original has to be expensive. If you "wannabe" a dj, get of your arse and find some original cheap tunes that have your stamp on them. Listening to some plonker play a load of thrashed out re releases or overplayed oldies that if i havnt got probably have on cd (horror) or on boot (naively as trainee soulie in some dodgy car park) at home isnt what got me into and kept me on this scene. Soul Police rules dont apply to non northern bars clubs other scenes can do what they want. Ayup Andy yep we wont agree, your view of the future is plausible. Wheres all the fun in discovering new tracks its all been done for you, who would decide who the djs are as all have the same gigantic collections. Think by then it would revert to a live scene as no buzz in same ole same ole.
  19. Andy, your post seems a little contradictory in that you would give preference to those dj's who stick with the rules then mention egos. Think of a current record you love but hardly ever hear played by one of your favourite djs and how you travel miles just to hear it out. Then the record on the back of good dancefloor reaction is re-released every wannabee dj now owns it, you'r sick of hearing it, now you travel miles just to avoid it. PC Vinyl
  20. Think that rule (10k) is ok for non soul related free basing stuff. This aside from the dull boring personal jibes is of interest to many on the forum. Whats the point of opening part2 to continue this insight/conversation with one of the icons of our scene.
  21. Was only thinkin that meself, how many on here "saw the light" via what would be deemed cheesy/cashing in moment. Guess we'll never know but anything that puts NS in the mainframe for a minute is ok with me, can put up with 3 months of heathens if a few new soulies find their way to this (self) righteous land. And its not as if none of us dont "USE" this site to self promote events/record sales/web sites
  22. the horse - cliff nobles
  23. The test - Chemical brothers
  24. what no Marvin or Johnny Taylor
