  1. Another Astor's moment. This came up on my feed earlier from the Daily Record reviewing Stuat Cosgrove's latest book. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/motor-city-miners-club-shotts-7774291 includes a good image.
  2. Two old record store unplayed Fantastic Four records for £7+ postage. It was the As long As I Live side I was after as it blows me away. Oh! and he threw in James Brown I Cried gratis, so if I can get 50p for that it's even cheaper
  3. Puts some numbers to the vinyl revival a jump from 300k a year to 18 million is impressive.
  4. Nice!
  5. Thanks for taking the trouble.
  6. Cheers trickbag, the auctions passed now. It might have been worth a punt but didn't want to get into a bidding war in case it was a pressing/re-issue. Just seemed a strange lot for it to be in.
  7. Reason I'm asking is that it's in amongst a job lot of legit singles but the Blue Cat issue would seem to be out of place amongst a job lot of UK pop legits. Wondered if they'd thrown out a yesteryears type of issue.
  8. Did Didi Noel gain some form of UK release, 70's perhaps?
  9. Since I've wandered over into Jazz this guy carries quite a rep. Should have realised it might end up here considering which instrument it is.
  10. Funnily enough I was just listening to the Motivations from a sales list. Queue Astors Twilight Zone This Lady is highly regarded.
  11. Yeah noticed that, what's the first press worth?
  12. Cheers, first time I've seen them.
  13. Cam across this whilst looking for something. Nice bit of 50's style blowing but no idea who it is. The artist listed was keyboards so just a session musician?
  14. Checking popsike to get an idea of price I saw a SMASH label design I didn't recognise I've only seen the design with the logo top to bottom on the left side. All but two I looked at had a smaller logo horizontal. Is this smash design legit?
  15. Think the thing about Jr Walker is how high his profile was and as soon as you think of a saxOphone (), he's the one that springs to mind. Saw him at Wigan and a bunch of those in front of the stage were waving toy sax's at him, you know who you are.
  16. Did a quick search but couldn't find anything/wrong search term but I thought I'd raised the subject before so if I'm being an old fart mumbling in the corner excuse me and just delete. Ellusions one of the best Sax breaks on Earth or am I missing something, Mr Big Shot is something else as well. Any others you can think of?
  17. Good read. I also liked the video, don't know who the artist Clhoe Briown had been speaking to or if those thoughts were to the forefront when she made the dancing in the boardroom. If you watch the video you'll remember that tantalising bit with the music floating in the air just out of reach and the way some sounds just floated in the atmosphere at some venues. Well worth a read and well worth a watch.
  18. Digging around the Tube I founds this so thought I'd put it up for comments. Not sure myself but I've been able to listen to it all. AWB's grandkids perhaps?
  19. Having a chat earlier and decided that 1972 was such a good year I decided never to leave
  20. Right gotcha with the Beatles title. Got Mr Postman from them the Stones You Better Move On, we know where Mick Jagger got his vocal style from trying to bring out some of the regional and stylistic differences in the Soul music of the '60's to people without oldies radio or much of an idea about the wealth of Soul music. It's reached the point where I have to point out some of the direct rip offs at the time rather than covers or later versions and I've hit a total mental block so the title's appropriate. Thanks in advance.
  21. Nice info, cheers. The platters were a group in the background of my childhood that were appreciated by the adults around me, in the process of being caught up in 'stuff' over the last few weeks something reminded me of the Ink Spots. They were another group the adults around me spoke of with a fair amount of reverence. Possibly due to their appearances in certain films, the adults around were from the Silver Screen era when there was a cinema on virtually every street corner. From here on Thorpe Edge I can think of 5 cinemas that were within walking distance.
  22. Where do you place them? Just had half an hour listening to their back catalogue Twilight time etc. The Four Tops, Temptations of their day. Hard to categorise but damn they were good. Can't quite work out their influence on the harmony groups that followed. It's fairly easy to work out say an artist like Sam Cooke's influence as it's so defined but they must have influenced every soul harmony group we listen to. Nice half hour anyway.
  23. Anybody got a mint- JJ Daniels? Don't know if the demo or issue is better to tell you the truth and this will be my first record purchase in many a year so be gentle with me.
  24. In a circle one presumes
  25. Just an info link for you vinyl hounds, good read too I like the part about vinyl listening soirées. Can you imagine sat there with 50 chin strokers for 2 hours.....or more JK. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jan/07/-sp-vinyls-difficult-comeback
