  • A brief intro...
Music fan since before British Invasion.  Knew nothing of northern soul until I stumbled upon a Manship guide at a record show about 2000 and realized I was in a good location to find NS 45s.  And I did.  Have limited knowledge of the scene but came to appreciate some great largely unknown artists and records.  US recession turned me into more of a dealer than I had been before.  I'm retired so I have plenty of time to search.

  1. Rare modern Gospel Soul from Sound of Birmingham just listed
  2. Charlemagne Record Exchange, Birmingham, Alabama as the trailer opens and that's me at 1:24 at the ARCA show, Birmingham, Alabama 2013...
  3. on eBay right now: I'll Never Love Again / Making Love
  4. Alabama, USA, that is, for induction into the Birmingham Record Collectors' Hall of Fame on Sunday August 18. These 3 legendary singer/songwriter/musicians were involved in the Muscle Shoals/FAME scene from the start. The BRC show is the largest Southeastern USA show and has been held annually for 29 years. 100+ tables of rock, soul, R&B, blues, country, jazz from dealers across the USA. Saturday and Sunday August 17-18 at the Cedars Club, 301 Greensprings Ave. South. Also to be inducted are local bluesman Henry "Gipp" Gipson, owner of the world famous "Gipp's Place" blues club in Bessemer, Alabama and Don Mosely, current owner of the Sound of Birmingham studio and former WSGN radio "Good Guy" from back in the day. So if any of you are traveling to the States in August, Birmingham is the place to be on August 18. More info at www.birminghamrecord.com
  5. Hello from Birmingham (Alabama, USA): I found a beautiful Varden 1801, Kee-Mo-Sabee / Rockin' Chair in a box of mostly 1970s and earlier LPs. Does anyone know what I should look for in the dead wax? The label looks right. It has a "no sale copy" stamp. Thanks.
  6. Obama is almost universally reviled in my neighborhood--the deep Dirty South, USA--but I enjoyed this because anybody who so clearly loves Memphis soul is OK by me. TImberlake is from Memphis, so we have to cut him some slack too.
  7. One more cheesed off US seller here--I think the future is multiple records sold as a lot to justify the postage and low customs value on all. Maybe you get the one you want and a few similar to trade or sell yourself. Keep watching...
  8. I found a copy of this last week and was surprised it was not listed in the Manship guide. If She Don't Want You to Have It You Can't Get It / Mr. Fool on Mojo 102, produced by Calvin Arnold. You can hear my copy on youtube.
  9. Dick Clark provided a beacon weekly that illuminated my rather backward corner of the USA. White teenagers could listen to black artists but actually seeing them perform was more difficult. Mr. Clark did good and bold work for his time.
  10. give him a chance to refund $23 and report him if he doesn't..otherwise he just beat you out of an extra $23. It's pointless to require tracking on less than $100 US, IMHO.
  11. It's possible that the seller listed an item that had more weight before the item in question. If he failed to change the weight in the new listing, it would result in the excessive shipping charge. I know because I did it.
  12. just relisted at a lower price
  13. Hello from the Deep South, USA: I pitched this item twice on Ebay and had no takers but I know the item is desireable and the price is reasonable. It's One Track Mind / I'm Surprised by Paul Vann, found about 8 weeks ago in a vintage mailer with other 45s from the same time in Birmingham, Alabama USA. It's probably had a stylus on it only twice: the first time I played it and again when I recorded it. The price is $1000 US, paid to my paypal and I will ship to you by Global Express, fully trackable, at my expense. All other details are to be worked out by the buyer and me, through a gentleman's ageement by email so that both of us share the slight chance of loss or damage equally. Curious? heyjoe1357@aol.com. My Ebay auction is probably still visible in the completed auctions section. You can listen to Paul Vann on youtube but not my copy.
  14. I'm glad I found this topic. I'm a US seller who frequently ships to the UK and Europe. My careful nature tells me I should insure a valuable record for a long trip overseas. I'm speaking of items valued at $100 US or more. But I can't insure it for one value and mark a lower value for customs. I want to keep your customs charges low (and your bids high) but it seems that puts all the risk on me if the item is lost or damaged. Ebay would surely refund your payment and I am left with a broken or missing record, because I wanted to help you with your tax bill and yes, help myself to a higher bid. Lately I have been insisting on trackable shipping with the notice that if I ship with a lesser customs value, the risk is with the buyer for lost or damaged shipments. No problems yet because most packages do just fine. I'm open to other ideas, but wanted you all to understand my side.
