  1. Why would this be booted? Great record, but surely never been in enough demand to merit a boot? Are there not Red Bird records on vinyl, but Canadian pressings?
  2. Lot 4 x Northern Soul BOOKS! £25 (inc. P&P) reduced from £30. Having a clear out, so thought I'd offer this wee bundle of books on here: Pete McKenna "Nightshift" (1996 paperback) RRP £6 David Nowell "Too Darn Soulful - The Story Of Northern Soul" (1999 hardback - 1st edition) RRP £18 Russ Winstanley "Soul Survivors - The Wigan Casino Story" (1997 paperback) RRP £9 Dave Shaw "Casino" (2000 paperback - 1st edition) RRP £10 All books are in excellent condition and would make a nice gift - to yourself. Perfect for whiling away those dull Christmas holidays! Looking to sell as a job lot - cost new £44 (and a few are out of print and sought after) - £25 inc. P&P. Paypal as gift preferred. PM to reserve. Thanks for looking.
  3. Plenty of sellers stop sales before Xmas due to post and people not checking ebay during holidays. Would you not be covered by paypal if anything went wrong? Looks fishy, but then doesn't seem like an obvious total out and out scam since they've obviously been proper traders up till now...
  4. Think it was a promo to promote "Soul Time" CD, so almost certainly legitimate: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Soultime-Volume-1/release/8563815
  5. Can I reserve The Upsetters? Sent you a PM - ta!
  6. Just get Ian Wright on speed dial...
  7. It's a bit of a red herring, though, comparing vinyl sales with downloads. Downloads are dying out as more and more people stream music rather than download. And the figures quoted are for sales not volume - with albums retailing at about £25 a pop, there could still be five times as many people downloading tracks as buying vinyl. It's not comparing like with like. You can prove anything with statistics...
  8. In my opinion the value of a record is determined by four distinct elements: quality of music, demand, rarity and condition. Plenty of records are rare, but nobody wants them (I'm forever stumbling across private press Scottish country dancing albums - rare, yes. In demand, no. Hence value: minimal). There's plenty of very expensive singles which aren't rare at all, but hundreds of collectors want them, obviously in the best condition possible. I agree, though. A fragile artefact manufactured in a run of 500 over 50 years ago is, by definition, rare. At least half will be in landfill. But if the quality isn't there, there's little demand...
  9. For sale JOHNNY SAYLES "I Can't Get Enough (Of Your Love)" (St. Lawrence) VG+ £125 Floorpacking stormer, definite original issue copy (with "Distributed by Chess..." label text round bottom) - has a few light scuffs and scratches, but any light ticks are pretty much drowned out by the music (this record is cut LOUD!) - plays great, and at the risk of cliché "perfect for deejaying"! Flip is slightly more marked (probably more VG) but again plays fine, with the odd light tick. Registered postage extra (or free is you want to send paypal as "personal") - PM to reserve. Thanks for looking!
  10. I started off collecting Kent compilation albums, many of which are now quite collectable in their own right. You can't really go wrong with "The Magic Touch", "Right Back Where We Started From", "For Dancers Only", "It's Torture", "Club Soul" etc etc There's plenty of "retro" nights in Glasgow which play northern soul. Many of them tend to mix it up with mod stuff, RnB, jazz, funk and ska - but most have a pretty friendly vibe...

  12. In knitting circles (yes, really) there is a term used for collecting wool... SABLE : Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy The point when you realise that you have more wool than you'll ever be able to use before you die. There's obviously a point where you realise you have more records than you could physically listen to in your remaining years. That is probably the definition of "enough". The vinyl addict, obviously, doesn't worry about this and just carries on collecting. It's quite scary if you work out the size of your collection, then try to work out how long it would take you to listen to...
  13. Looking for: The Bongalis "Undercover" (M-S) Not fussed if it's issue or promo, but would prefer a nice copy! Please PM with details and price, many thanks...

  17. Love how the "original re-issue" has two mistakes on the small print at the bottom (Wr. Prod. misses the "&" and "Van leer" should be Vanleer) and the "bootleg of the original re-issue" exactly copies these mistakes. Crazy fools...
  18. Not a rare record, but just looking at "Do It" by Billy Sha-Rae on Spectrum on a blue label. Is this a later press, or just a regional variation? Looks like green and purple labels are more common. Ta!
  19. Asking you kind people again, after a previous offer fell through... Looking for: Gloria Ann Taylor "Deep Inside You" (Selector Sound) 45 or Gloria Taylor "Deep Inside You" (Columbia) 45 Think they're both the same version - not fussed if they're issues or demos, but must be in nice condition. Please PM with price, any help much appreciated.
  20. The UK version is slightly longer, isn't it?

  23. DIVINE (In conjunction with GLASGOW CITY MUSIC TOURS and WATERSTONES GLASGOW) presents: *** DETROIT 67 Launch Party *** Saturday 29th October (Doors 7.30pm) The Admiral, Waterloo Street, Glasgow After the sensational "Young Soul Rebels" launch party, we're very excited to be doing it all over again for the expanded, revised, re-sleeved and re-launched "Detroit 67" - already nominated for Music Book Of The Year 2016. This remarkable history focuses on twelve turbulent months in the Motor City covering soul music, street crime and social rebellion, which ripped the city apart in 1967. The author Stuart Cosgrove will be reading excerpts from the book, accompanied by an in-depth Q&A chaired by Alison Stroak (of Glasgow City Music Tours) followed by a book-signing session (courtesy of Waterstones Glasgow). Then at 10pm, Divine kicks off with a Detroit Soul & Motor City Funk Special, with guest slots from Stuart and legendary collector Lenny Harkins - spinning a Detroit-centric selection of ultra-rare 45s and unreleased acetates, alongside Tamla Motown classics and obscurities. We expect this event will sell out like the last one - the spoken word part is tickets-only and can be purchased for only £5 at Tickets Scotland: http://tickets-scotland.com/detr2 Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/326308577721960/ Soul Source Event Guide Please share with fans of northern soul, Tamla Motown, Detroit history and anyone who likes a combination of explosive literature and dynamite tunes!
  24. Good luck... one in sales for £250:
  25. I just bought a $50 single from the the US. Add on postage, crap exchange rate, Paypal's super-crap exchange rate and... it cost £53. I know postage can't really be factored into the exchange rate, but it's worse than £=$ right now...
