  1. Just wondering if any kindly souls out there could help out with high quality scans of the A and B sides of this single on Suemi - has to be the original, mind. Thanking you in advance...
  2. Ann Peebles "I Can't Stand The Rain" - every track pure quality...
  3. Go on, just whip it out - they'll never notice!!!
  4. "Thinking Of You" is one of my favourite tracks of all time. While being not quite disco, not quite modern, not quite crossover and not quite funk, it has all those ingredients and the whole adds up to more than the sum of the individual parts. Has it ever got spins anywhere or is it just too darned obvious? Can anyone recommend anything in a similar vein - to my ears Margie Joseph's "I Can't Move No Mountains" has a similar kind of sound...
  5. Can anyone help me find Jean DuShon's version of "Feeling Good" on Cadet? Any PMs gratefully received...
  6. PM me if you're interested in any of these. All can be assumed to be EX/EX or better unless noted. P&P is £2.50 per album and paypal is fine... O.C. Smith "At Home" (UK CBS - good version of "Colour Him Father") £7 Kellee Patterson "All The Things You Are" (US Shadybrook) £4 The Contours "Baby Hit and Run" (UK MFP/Tamla Motown) £6 The Spinners "Love Trippin'" (US Atlantic - "I Just Want To Fall In Love") £5 - HOLD Gladys Knight "A Little Knight Music" (UK Tamla Motown - "No One Could Love You More") £5 - HOLD Various - From The Vaults (UK Tamla Motown - Spinners "What More Could A Boy Ask For" etc.) £5 Various - Non Stop Soul (UK Polydor - medley LP inc. Cody Black "Slowly Moulding" (and flip) and loads of great James Brown productions - not full tracks but good album and great sleeve! few scuffs, plyas fine) £7 - HOLD
  7. Can anyone confirm if the UK Contempo issue of The Montclairs is a longer version? I'm sure I remember hearing this, and dug out my own copy where the label states 2.43 but it actually plays 3.25. Sorry if this has been asked before, and apologies to Pete Smith for mentioning the word Contempo...
  8. To my ears The Delegates Of Soul "I'll Come Running Back" sounds like a group harmony funk record, but because Butch played it, it's mysteriously become a northern soul oldie... I think there's a bit more cross-pollination than most would like to accept. Also, just because a record mentions "funk" doesn't mean it's what we'd define as funk. As previously mentioned funk was a slang term referring to the smell hanging around a room after, you know, doing it... And the word jazz was a slang term meaning, well, you know... doing it. So quite how jazz-funk is the unsexiest music ever made is a bit of a conundrum...
  9. Can anyone help me with the 12" of The Carstairs on Inferno. C'mon, none of you lot want a RE-ISSUE on a TWELVE INCH do you??? Any help gratefully appreciated. Please PM me...
  10. I found it bizarre that the whole series has been chronological, and Saturday's episode covered James Brown, Sly Stone, George Clinton and then basically went... "In the 80s this forgotten music was picked up by Public Enemy etc. and hip-hop was born. See you next week for Mary J Blige and urban R&B" Err, what happened from the mid 70s to the mid 80s? Actually, don't answer that...
  11. Hey, stop hijacking my thread - you're obviously far more popular round these parts...
  12. Try asking on the Funk45 messageboard HERE!
  13. Can anyone help me find a copy of: Continental Showstoppers "Not Too Young" (Seventy 7 - 107) Any help would be much appreciated - please PM me...
  14. If anyone wants to sell me a Royal VII "It's An Explosion" for a "sensible" price, drop me a PM...
  15. I thought the trick was to play the side that DIDN'T have the big red "A"???
  16. The Avalanches album was meant to have the greatest number of samples on any album ever released, I seem to remember. "Since I Met You" has chunks of "Let's Do The Latin Hustle" by Eddie Drennon, which might be the Mecca spin (just a guess), and I'm sure the vocal is Michael Jackson. It's a REALLY cheesy Jackson Five cover of "Why Do They Fall In Love" or whatever it's called... Sample = cover version, hmmm not sure about that since the whole thing is constructed of samples making it more of an original "collage". But let's not open a whole new can of worms...
  17. Currently in the box: Supremes "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" b/w "He's All I Got" Patrice Holloway "Love And Desire" b/w "Ecstasy" The Exits "You Got To Have Money" b/w "Under The Street Lamp" Erma Franklin "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" b/w "Whispers" Delegates Of Soul "I'll Come Running Back" b/w "What A Lucky Guy I Am" Big Maybelle "Quittin' Time" b/w "I Can't Wait Any Longer"
  18. Everyone wants that Isley Brothers LP, I presumed everyone on here would have it... what a track! If you've ordered stuff, can you paypal me ASAP since I'm getting requests for reserved records - ta, like.

  20. What album is "Haunted" on, or is it 7" only? "Dusty In Memphis" is one of the best soul albums of all time period...
  21. Does your postie deal soul records? That'll be where they're all going then...
  22. Is it acceptable to play tracks which have been pokled about on a computer so it sunds like the singer's had a sex change, if you get them cut onto an acetate? Err, I'll get me coat...
  23. Is "blue-eyed" a more politically correct way of saying "white"? I always find this form of inverted racism slightly bizarre, since generally the people who won't listen to "white" records usually ARE white... Surely one listen to "It'll Never Be Over For Me" by Timi Yuro, and you realise that the colour of someone's skin is completely irrelevant - you've either got soul or, err, you don't...
  24. Bumping this back to the top, sorry. So, nobody can help with a couple of common records on Arctic, then?
  25. Why has someone punched that huge hole into an album...
