  1. Maybe not "lots" of them, and maybe not exclusively disco collectors, but there are growing numbers of DJs who only play 45s. Personally, I've got no time for long intros and instrumental breaks - why play one long record when you could play three short ones instead?
  2. Because a lot of disco collectors are now chasing 45s, when previously it was only really 12"s they wanted? What was probably considered too modern to play on the northern soul scene back in the day is now a 36 year old record which fits in with other similar spins? The US copies seem to go for £30+ so British collectors are happy to pay that for a UK copy, plus you get a picture sleeve? The UK copy has "Funky Sensation" on the flip, which the US one doesn't - so you get two tunes for the price of one? There are probably 100s more reasons, but there's a few to be going on with...
  3. Anyone?! Are there copies filed in collections or is it just very hard to find?
  4. No copies showing on popsike - is this quite a rare wee beastie?
  5. Maybe the "re-issue" will be the copy to own...
  6. Anyone have an Ethel Beatty 45 on Uno Melodic they want to sell me? Any PMs with price and condition much appreciated - thanks for looking!

  9. Missed the copy on Darren's list... looking for a copy of: Sophisticated Ladies "This Ain't Really Love" / "I'll Keep Coming Back" (Reflection) Any help much appreciated. PM with price and condition. Thanks!
  10. >early 70's to mid 80's soul funk jazz fusion, early 2000's soulful house, and some reggae Personally, I don't think the alcohol issue or finishing time would be your main problem - it's a playlist which tries to cover too many bases. As the old expression goes, you can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time... I think trying to second guess what young people like is a tricky business - and sadly, most young folk don't really want to hang out with a bunch of old fogeys anyway. Just my experience...
  11. Reading this thread, Sandy Golden was auctioned by JM in 2013... I'm just curious what it sold for?
  12. "One for the DJ's who want to push the boundaries.." Aye, that's one way to phrase it!
  13. Lenny mentioned Darlene Love's "Long Way To Be Happy" earlier in this thread - always thought this sounded amazing, was only aware of it from a Phil Spector 70s comp of unreleased stuff. Which is why I assumed "Lord If You're A Woman" was also 60s, and only released mid-70s - although it quite obviously has synthesisers in it, so I should probably have listened closer! The vocals DO sound very 60s though...
  14. A wee nudge for the weekend Soul Sourcers... any help appreciated!
  15. Really? I would assume this is filled with nasty chemicals you want nowhere near your vinyl...
  16. Looking for a nice copy of Shirley Nanette "Give and Take" / "Heaven On Earth" (Satara) PM with condition and price. Thanks for looking!
  17. Still looking for this if anyone can help! TA!
  18. Sounds like the exact same track to me, although mixed slightly differently - I hadn't really noticed the pianos during the "bridge" or middle-eight section - but listening back to The Precisions, they're definitely there, just lower in the mix and with harmonies over them. And the strings sound more prominent in the Eddie Spencer version due to the lack of backing vocals... I'd have to say that, in my opinion, The Precisions beats Eddie Spencer hands down, just the male vocal harmonies blending with the strings totally makes it, along with the effortless lead vocal. And that knock-out group harmony "whoooooooaaaaaaaaa!" sucker punch before it even begins - you're floored from the start! Eddie Spencer's version just sounds a bit too rushed, like he's singing slightly ahead of the beat (maybe this gives it some urgency for some?) and a bit empty without the group backing. Then again, it probably all just depends on which version you heard first - BUT... if you don't like either, you don't like northern soul!
  19. And there's the old "sorry, I snapped it while packing" chestnut. I usually say "oh, I'd still like it - it was just to put in a frame" to which the reply is always "sorry, my bins got emptied this morning..." My bins get emptied about once a month!
  20. And the brown card poly-lined sleeves are the worst - if the vinyl is in direct contact with polythene (and additionally housed in a PVC outer sleeve) then it's like the perfect storm... It's more common with albums - prog rock seems to be especially vulnerable (Vertigo albums etc.), probably because there's more chance of it sitting on a shelf unplayed for decades (some would say, rightfully!).
  21. A polite wee bump on this... can anyone help?!
