  1. From Discogs: "An obscure US outfit, Pages - a one-off, unique production masterminded by none other than Detroit jazz legend / Herman Kelly & Life band member / Isaac Hayes collaborator, Travis Biggs" - if that's what's at the back of your mind!
  2. Don't think it revolves around clubs, but more get togethers with music playing - Ruben Molina is the DJ name I see most frequently relating to Lowrider Soul.
  3. There was also the bootleg 45, with Brenda Holloway's version on the flip. I thought this came out a few years earlier than the Motown Sevens box set, but according to Discogs both came out in 2013.
  4. Can’t imagine it’s rare enough to merit a bootleg? Always been fairly easy to pick up.
  5. Divine & Futtle proudly present: The East Neuk of Fife launch party for "Hey America!" Award-winning author and broadcaster Stuart Cosgrove's latest epic. Continuing his forensic levels of research into American soul music and social history (expertly examined in the acclaimed soul trilogy of "Detroit 67", "Memphis 68" and "Harlem 69"), this time the spotlight is shone on the unique relationship between Black Music and the White House. Event will feature: • Book Reading and Spoken Word with Stuart • Q&A session • Book signing session (stall hosted by publishers Polygon Books) • Soul Club after-party After the spoken word part, the lights dim and Stuart will be joined on the decks by Glasgow-based DJ and collector Andrew Divine, spinning soul across the spectrum - northern soul, crossover, funk and disco until 1am. Happening in the intimate surroundings of Futtle (an organic brewery and record shop on the outskirts of St. Monans) in the beautiful East Neuk of Fife. Tickets are extremely limited to 70 - as the Brothers Of Soul sang... hurry, don't linger! Tickets £12 in advance: https://www.wegottickets.com/event/562603/

  9. I suspect the polythene printed RCA sleeve will be from Brazil or Peru or somewhere South American.
  10. It’s quite a subtle re-work - apparently it was his very first remix...
  11. The Inferno re-issue from 1979 had two Tom Moulton mixes on it - is it possible the Soul Fox uses one of those?
  12. I was thinking it's very similar to the housing market. Where previously houses would be set sale, estate agents decided to auction them since demand was outstripping supply. Everybody could've played it cool and decided to just keep paying the "set sale" price, but instead decided they were happy to pay 10% over the asking price and so it kept on fuelling itself. The only reason house prices have doubled is because people with spare savings decided that's what they wanted to spend their money on. Of course, the people who bought property 20 or 30 years ago can still buy and sell - in essence, they're only spending what they paid back then. So... basically the same as records?
  13. Good thread that, sadly I can't add to. But might be worth giving John Manship a phone, he's bound to have encountered him. Or try sending Keb Darge a message on Facebook? Look forward to seeing your finished feature...
  14. Presumably most collectors don't assume a limited edition single will get re-pressed (bootlegged) behind the label's back and sold via a third party - pretty dodgy behaviour, if not downright illegal?
  15. For sale: John Harris & the Soul Sayers “Hangin’ In” (Kerston numbered re-issue 444/500) £100 (inc P&P) Played once or twice, lovely condition. PayPal please! PM to reserve. Thanks for looking. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GlPHGUl6cc4
  16. The BBC article states: "The free trade deal means there are no quotas or tariffs on the goods traded between the EU and UK, but that doesn't mean there are no extra taxes or costs." VAT is now chargeable on ALL goods being imported, regardless of cost. Charged at point of sale for goods under £135 - and orders over £135 are subject to VAT and additional import tax surcharges. Ebay are now charging the 20% VAT onto purchases, and it's only a matter of time before Discogs introduces it. They add sales taxes for Australia and certain US states already.
  17. Wee weekend bump! Anyone help?
  18. Auction house premiums are nothing to do with tax - that's just how they make their commission. They usually charge the seller 25% AND the buyer 25% - so they're basically getting 50% of the sale price just by auctioning the item.
  19. Wanted: 7" Sophisticated Ladies "I'll Keep Coming Back" b/w "This Ain't Really Love" (Reflection CBL-9) Please PM with price and condition - thanks for looking!
  20. But has anyone ever seen an "Emidisc" label which omits the word "disc" and just has "Emi" at the top (see attached image to see what they usually look like)? I'm ALMOST feeling bold enough to stick my neck out and suggest they don't actually exist, except on this batch of singles! It wouldn't be costly at all - I could print them out on my inkjet printer, cut them out with scissors and glue them with pritt-stick.
  21. As mentioned previously, EMI Discs are acetates, there's no reason why they'd be on properly pressed singles, with matrix stamp numbers and serrated label stacking rings. And, as I mentioned before, they say "EMIDisc" at the top and yours just say "EMI" which I have never, ever seen before. Looks like somebody has just had a wee bit of fun and faked up some labels to make their collection a wee bit more exotic looking. Why would you do it to cheap records? If you did it to expensive records you'd actually be de-valuing them. The strange world of northern soul!
  22. Wow, amazing finds - that EP looks really cool... The Moving Finger single is great!
  23. Yes, but they don't say EMIDisc - they only say EMI at the top. I don't recall ever seeing this before - it's a bit strange looking to my eyes...
  24. Weirdly, many of your 45s look like they have acetate labels - so they shouldn't actually have any matrix stamps. The middles look a bit chewed up, they'd normally be pretty clean. Not sure if some are handmade labels glued onto regular releases? The ones with EMI at the top look like EMIDISC labels - I've never seen them with the word DISC missing. Can you post up photos without the company sleeves?
