Hi Anyone know where the Sir Graham Label fits into all this. Mirwood Mira etc Can I just say that the amount of knowledge shared on this thread has been stunning, Although I didn't set it going, I have found it most informative and It's helped me in my personal quest to complete the Mirwood label. Thanks to all who have contributed. Soul Source at It's BEST.

Hi Counting my youth club days where I used to play Soul Music, around 38 years on the scene. I'm 52 next month. My older sister bought The Beatles etc, whereas my mother bought Mary Wells, The Supremes, The Ronettes etc, as they were released 1962/1963 onward. So I grew up listening to my mother playing all these wonderful (Chart) Soul tracks - My Guy and the like. They became the start of my collection around 1968 and I still have them to this day. Certainly set me off on the path to an empty wallet I started working in 1970 - I spent most of my wages on records at the time when I discovered the then unknown stuff, like The O'Jays, Darrell Banks etc. I bought a load of Rare British stuff from someone who was selling most of his records to buy a Mini, I've still got the records I bought off him, I doubt he's still got his Mini. A very good friend of mine from the Youth Club days appeared at my door in the early 1970's clutching a pile of records. Van McCoy Sweet & Easy, Jo Armstead, then Sandi Sheldon, Morris Chestnut, Lenis Guess, Shawn Robinson he played them and I was completely hooked. He had discovered the delights of the Torch and Wigan. He even let me tape them on my old reel to reel tape. - Happy Days. That was when I first saw the Stock Copy of "Too Darn Soulful" on Blue AMY. Never seen one since apart from a scan. He had some rare stuff did Mick. Sold me one or two as well. He even put me on to Groove City records, I can still remember the first day I phoned them from the phone box at work, and started to get lists. I turned my attention from British and pressings to Imports. I started to play them at our local Northern Soul Venue. Regular Visits to Samanthas and Cleethorpes followed - Mick started me off collecting Imports in a big way Sadly he's no longer with us. I was always amazed how many records went through his hands, while only ever having say 50 at any one time - he just kept buying and selling rare stuff. I once bought a Jock Mitchell Stock Copy from him swapped it back for some other stuff he had a few months later. When I met my wife I we got married I obviously had to slow down the spending on records, however I can honestly say that I still like virtually every record I bought. Once Soul Music grabs you it's with you for life.

I double checked mine for this reason as my "Could It Be" is an "H" "That Beatin' Rhythm" has "11" quite close together almost an "H" "Cigarette "Ashes" definately "1 1" I had a look on Anoraks Corner, If I've read it right the "H" is an RCA Matrix H - Hollywood, California https://www.anorakscorner.homestead.com/Pre...gPlantInfo.html

Hi Ted Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks.
-
Hi Ted The reason I asked was the other design on Popsike that I mentioned earlier. It looks like it was pressed at 2 different pressing plants or a different batch from the same pressing plant as the Label Design is different. It does make me wonder why it is so difficult to find. They must have only pressed up small quantities each time.
-
Hi Ted Thanks for that, my "Cigarette Ashes" Stock Copy is on Vinyl and has the following in the Deadwax "66-3088-B" @ 6 O'clock - Scratched "1 1" @ 3 O'Clock - Stamped
-
Hi Thanks for that, first time I've seen the Sandi Sheldon Stock Copy The Jimmy Conwell looks to be Styrene from the scan, however the label design suggests Vinyl. Is it a Monarch press with delta # or Vinyl Hi Julian Not a problem mate, Thanks for trying. Is your copy of Jimmy Conwell the same design.
-
Hi Julian When you reply you should see underneath where you type a white box File Attachments and a Browse button. Using the browse you should be able to select from your My Documents folder the file and click Add This Attachment. Repeat for each file. I hope this helps
-
Hi Julian Well, I don't think that I have seen a Stock Copy for Sandi Sheldon - Okeh 45 I don't know If anyone else has. All that I have seen is the Okeh 45 White DEMO and the Okeh 45RPM Re-Issue Stock Copy. As for Cigarette Ashes, It must be the most elusive of the Mirwood DEMO's. Not sure how valuable these two are but I know they are Extremely Rare Wish you could scan them, shame.
-
Hi Pete I certainly watch them. Brilliant!, Thanks.

Hi Martyn According to Manship's 3rd Edition 5510 DEMO is worth £20. However I haven't seen many DEMO's. I have noticed though, as with the others there are different Stock Copies .....................VINYL....................................VINYL....................................STYRENE I don't know if more DEMO's are about, but I haven't seen many considering the £20 VALUE. I wonder if there is a Styrene DEMO? I have one on The Mira Label which also had a release on Mirwood There obviously looks to be a connection, I would hazard a guess at them both being owned by Randy Wood, but I'm not sure.
-
Hi Pete Yes, "Cigarette Ashes" is almost Impossible on DEMO, I think I have seen one in 38 years. While on the subject of Cigarette Ashes, I notice the scan from Popsike has a different label variation to my copy, mmmm Interesting, makes me wonder why It's so difficult to find one, if it has been pressed at least twice. ........

Hi This is part of my Collection List showing the Mirwood White DEMO's that I have. Some have A & B some have A & A - There doesn't appear to be any pattern to why some are and why some are not. Another thing is that some are Styrene and some are Vinyl depending on the pressing plant. In the case of 5523 I have 2 different DEMO's one with A & B the other A & A. I don't know if this happened with any of the other numbers. I have two different DEMO copies for 5519 i.e. Could I expect to find a DEMO copy of Mirwood 5511 with "My Little Girl" on the B Side ? I hope that this helps.

Hi Pete "That Beatin Rhythm" is definitely one of the hardest Mirwood's. If it I hadn't bought mine from Soul Bowl in the 70's, I would still be searching for a copy. Another 2 that are quite difficult are I have seen these a couple of times, but very rarely seen.
-
Hi I saw the Black Label recently listed as first issue for the Duck, but It had no scan of the record. I think it was "Records By Mail" but not quite sure. Someone bought It before I could get around to ordering It. I've seen a couple of Black Labels for Mirwood on the later numbers. The Purple Label I have for "The Duck" is on Styrene & I also on have a Purple Label Vinyl copy. I have seen a Label scan for "I Can't Get Away" which had a Purple Label. Does anyone know the order that the Coloured Labels were issued? Is your Black Label the same design as most of the Mirwoods or like the White DEMO?
-
Hi Do we have any Idea how many Stock Copies would have been produced at the time, to make it worth their while at the printers etc. I suppose they could have run a few off with Stock Labels while at the Pressing Plant pressing the DEMO's, but does anyone actually know? Was there a known quantity of Stock Copies produced before they found out if it would be a hit or not.
-
Hi It's just occurred to me, has anyone ever seen a Stock Copy for "Looking At Tomorrow" I haven't. Surely Chubby didn't struggle to get a release with his last few records for Parkway. "You Just Don't Know" only just made it to a DEMO in the U.S.A. "Looking At Tomorrow" is almost as elusive, does anyone know what happened with these releases.
-
Hi Chubby Checker, made some wonderful records, It's nice to see him get some recognition. Here is the other White DEMO for "Everything's Wrong" "(At The) Discotheque" - "(Do The) Discotheque" - "Looking At Tomorrow" ............ Looking at tomorrow was the most difficult to find, seen it on both White DEMO's but took ages to actually acquire. I hope you find one Simon My copy cost me quite a bit, but it was worth every penny in my opinion - Equally as good as "You Just Don't Know"
-
Hi Pete Janie Grant is definitely rarer on a Stock Copy, and deserves the higher price. You quite rightly compare it to a Christine Cooper Stock Copy, I would also compare to an Yvonne Baker Stock Copy, Anyone that wants one and see's one for sale then It is virtually a once in a lifetime chance. If I ever win the lottery these three would be on my wants list. Stock Copies of these records never turn up in quantity and I suspect never will. I have the White DEMO for these records and If I ever needed to replace them, although not easy I probably could. If they were Stock Copies IMPOSSIBLE I hope you sell It at a decent amount, It has It all Brilliant Record, RARE, Mint- If it doesn't sell nothing changes, just try it another day -
-
Hi A wonderful track "Ask The Lonely", always liked It and then we discovered on the B Side "Where Did You Go". Brilliant Double Sider and cheap too. Imagine if there were only a handful of copies, what price would it fetch? - Quality

Hi David Was he always credited on the label?, I wasn't sure if the credits were always 100% regarding the credits, that was why I listed so many. It was when you said he had worked with Bob Crew at Dyno-Voice, I wasn't sure if he was credited or more behind the scenes. I have found a few definites anyway. Johnny Caswell, Beverly Ann etc Let me know when you want any @ 300 dpi, and whether you want them first, and/or when "There's That Beat!" wants them.

Hi Dave I haven't scanned these yet, but this is my Columbia, Date, Epic stuff, from my collection list. Columbia Date Epic
