The Friendly Face Of Collecting Pt.1 - The Zudan Label
45cellar replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Look At Your Box
Hi I sold a lot of my Zudan stuff, last year, I had Green Power / The Grinder on a light blue & a light green Zudan. I've still got at least one light blue, but unfortunately that plays the ballad. I seem to think I kept one of the light green copies as well, but If I have I'm not quite sure which track it plays. I'll have a look. -
Here's the USA Stock Copy, for comparison, has address on Label. Petes UK Copy I've got to say Pete, I have Never ever seen one before. Looking at the Solid Centre, it looks similar to a UK Cream Press

Hi The Remarkables Easily Misled - Audio Arts!, is a Brilliant record and reasonably priced. Here is another, but ......... Has anyone seen an Atlantic Record Sales, Distributed, New York DEMO for this release, I'm not suggesting that it's Rare, It's just that I haven't seen one. -----------------?-----------------

Hi I just love The Remarkables featuring Vance Wilson - Easily Mislead - Audio Arts Terrific Double Sider. The Remarkables featuring Vance Wilson - Easily Mislead - Audio Arts! 700B The Remarkables featuring Frank Wilson - Is The Feeling Still There - Audio Arts! 700A Easily Misled - Remarkables - 7022 refosoul Just one look at the Label Credits, James Carmichael & Frank Wilson On the subject of this record "Vance Wilson?" ........ Who?
-
Hi Pete You're right, Identical, I've just had a listen.
-
Thanks again PETE Does that point to session singers then? OR Could it be a change of Lead Singer? Either way it would still be good to find the Name of the Female Voice.
-
Thanks Ian & Pete Bobby Callendar on "Goodbye Love (Hello Sadness)" THE VOCALIST ON THIS TRACK CERTAINLY DOES SOUND LIKE A MAN. Could he have done the Vocals on "What Shall I Do" OR are we still looking for another singer, (female) Does anyone know the period of time between these being Issued. Could they have changed the Lead singer but kept the name. Calla C-127 A / C-127-B A Side: "I Only Have Eyes For You" B Side: "What Shall I Do" Calla C-0127 A / C-127 BN A Side: "Goodbye Love (Hello Sadness)" -------- Bobby Callendar B Side: "What Shall I Do" To date we have only three tracks by Frankie and the Classicals. The name suggests Frankie is only one person, which is why we refer to him/her as Frankie. Is it conceivable that there are two different group members, taking the Lead on different tracks. Possibly due to the time difference between C-127 & C-0127. If Pete is right, and I'm sure he will be, could Bobby Callendar have done the Vocals on "What Shall I Do" As already stated, there is a female Voice on "Goodbye Love (Hello Sadness)" but in the background. Is this the mystery singer on "What Shall I Do"

Hi Malc Thanks, I have also been searching. Between us we might just get that little bit closer. If Chalky is right and they were just a group that were moonlighting then we may never find anything, but nothing ventured and all that.
-
Hi Chalky That is definitely one of the many possibilities, at the moment we are trying to follow the Teddy Vann married to Estelle Bennett Connection. It would still help to hear an Estelle Bennett Solo/Lead rather than Veronica Bennetts but at the moment we just don't have one Regarding the TV Clip which had Veronica Bennett on Lead. I was just trying to listen for possible similarities to her sisters voice, Compared to Frankie, spoken Intro included. It was also a follow up to the Photograph which featured Estelle. Nobody is ruling anything out, Just exploring all avenues in the search for Frankie.
-
Hi Malc I hope we are, there are many puzzles within our music, such as Frankie and Joy Lovejoy If somebody doesn't try to solve these puzzles, Information will be lost through time and they will become harder, if not impossible to solve.
-
Hi Malc Thanks for this Information. When you mentioned the Teddy Vann connection yesterday I thought that this is the most promising clue that we have so far as to the Identity of Frankie. I have had a look on this >>> Link <<< Looking for Information on the Ronettes. The Ronettes - Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, her sister Estelle, and their cousin Nedra, grew up in New York City's Washington Heights/Spanish Harlem area I would like to hear Estelle on Lead Vocals / Solo However looking at The Ronettes & the family connection, does it also follow that there will be Vocal similarities to Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett. I read somewhere that Groups that have family members provide a better sounding harmony. Something that is hard to match with groups of non family members. On this train of thought I am trying to compare the Lead Vocals of Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, with those of Frankies. With a View to Estelle Bennett being Frankie. I Hope we can get a Soundfile of Estelle Bennett's Vocals, I think that would be one of the final pieces of the puzzle in the search for Frankie. A Quote from the above Link "By the end of 1966 the Ronettes had disbanded. Nedra married WINS program director Scott Ross and Estelle married producer/songwriter Teddy Vann. Ronnie forced into retirement by Spector managed only to release an occasional single." Just about perfect, 1967 beckons for Estelle to follow a different path from The Ronettes, which had just disbanded What Shall I Do (Spoken) - Frankie And Classicals - Add to playlist --.-- Following the success of The Ronettes, I couldn't Imagine Teddy Vann going to the studio alone and leaving a Singer with Estelles Vocal experience in The Ronettes, at home The girls were also from New York City >>> Link <<< answers.com

Hi Dave A Fantastic Achievement, A Much Needed Reference Point for Collectors. The Rare Soul Scene is in Safe Hands. With the Sterling work undertaken on this Forum, Your Site and others, Providing Quality Information for the Future.
-
Hi Pete Thanks for that, I wonder If any more of the Cameo / Parkway catalogue will be released. There has been the recent Dee Dee Sharp, The Tymes & The Orlons CD's. I just wonder If we will ever get a legitamate release for the other stuff such as Bobby Paris, or will It all end at the London (ABKCO) release

Hi Simon We did a thread recently on Night Owl, I think this was mentioned >>> Link <<< On this subject, what happened to all of those Stock Copies that were on Auction recently ? >>> Link <<<
-
Hi Mel I've just had a look on >>> Wikipedia <<< It would appear that by 1967, Frankie Lymon's Voice wasn't up to the task anyway. "Lymon's slowly tapering sales fell sharply after his voice changed and he lost his signature soprano voice. Adopting a falsetto, Lymon carried on. His highest charting solo hit was a cover of Thurston Harris' "Little Bitty Pretty One", which peaked at number 58 on the R&B charts in 1960." Hi Malc There's got to be something, this still intrigues me The connection between Estelle Bennett , Teddy Vann and Frankie Lymon is interesting ..... was " Frankie " Estelle Bennett ? I hope we do find out one day Malc, It would be good to find Frankie & Joy Lovejoy. Kendra Spotswood / Sandi Sheldon / The Vonettes, had a Mystery Voice at one time.

There might be a connection, I'm not sure. Canada has had a few mentions on here recently regarding Soul Music. I keep finding certain records on a Canadian release, although neither expensive to purchase/Valuable, scarce etc I still find a place in my collection for them. Canadian releases appear to be out of favour somehow

Hi I've Just found this >>> Link <<< whilst looking for Nanette Workman's - Lady Marmalade - Pancha >>> Encyclopedia of Music in Canada <<<

Hi Mel brat We had a thread about the English Labels last year, when I asked " Uk Labels - Stateside For Instance, Who Chose - and which 60's Label most influential" >>> Link <<< As always here were many interesting replies including one from Tony Rounce who gave a fascinating insight into the people behind the scenes within the UK Labels and the Soul Releases Unfortunately some of the posts including Tonys, were lost when the site went down, shortly after. Although many were unsuccessful in the Charts at the time of release, they did a Brilliant Job.

Hi Sean I've always loved the record, the "What Shall I Do" / "What Should I Do" is yet another mystery. Could be the Label Printers got the title wrong As we know, It has happened before.
-
Hi Malc Thanks for the Info, I think that we may be getting close to the answer here
-
Hi Sean We're thinking along similar lines here. Frankie could have been used in the recording Studio. The Voice does appear to be Female though
