I have the 12 and used to have a 7 (I also have the album for that matter!) Can't remember what happened to the 7 but I am not sure there's any difference in playing time between any of the versions. A great side whichever format it comes in!!
-
There is a version of this, maybe the demo, with a much fuller production - strings etc. Well wiorth getting as the 'normal' version,is, I think, a biut lacking production-wise....

Two step as a genre grew out of the Lovers Rock reggae scene where enterprising DJs looked to original soul releases which were complimentary to the reggae sounds they were otherwise playing - it may have been picked up within the wider soul scene but thats where it started. I would think about 1094/85 as a starting point. Rare groove was a separate scene, encompassing a variety of funky sides, run by different people but a few sounds were played on both scenes (Keep It Up being one of those). As for 'Boogie', much more of an early 80s phenomenen - take a look at this URL for the definitive listing - https://bangtheparty77-84.com/2009/08/14/sean-p%E2%80%99s-100-boogie-essentials-1980-1984/

Can you give any more information, A fair few housier instrumentals would fit that description

Crssover Soul was a term coined in an old edition of Voices From The Shadows, from about 1992 and was used to describe soul from the period following the demise of the defining/classic HDH Motown sound in about 1968 and the establishment of the defining/classic Philly sound in about 1972.. I'm not saying thats the only way to define it but that was the first definiion I recall.

Hi Mike, You could try the picture of the CD on Amazon. I know you stated no online sources but its actually pretty clear...... Cheers Steve.

I think all sellers should sign up to a charter - - all records packed in decent mailers - at least 2 card stiffeners - taped properly but not so overtaped that you damage the record or sleeve removing it - last but not least, condition of record and sleeve should be consistent with original description.. For something that should be so easy, so many sellers (not neccesarily on Soul Source) get it so wrong!! My thoughts anyway Steve.

I went to an allnighter at the Jamaican Club in 83 or 84. If I'm honest, I don't remember a great deal about it other than Otis Clay, The Only Way is Up was definetely played. I remember buying a pint of milk on the walk back to the station to get themorning train home to Chippenham!! It definitely happened though!! The other thing that sticks in mind was a concrete dance floor - is that right?

The World Is In Crisis from the Transitions album on Buddah is geat, as is the collaboration with the Futires, Make It Last, on the same label. Don't I Ever Cross Your Mind on West End is an excellent 12 but you may already know that. I didn't know she recorded for Prelude - I think I also have a 12 of hers on WMOT. I'll dig it out and let you know te title.

You could buy one of these - dunno if it works though https://www.vinylflat.com/

Yeah, I heard that she had taken her life a couple of years ago - really sad. In truth, there are so many excellent lovers rock tunes in a similar vein - very, very few costing any more than tenner - almost a forgotten genre in my view..........

Mixology - The Definitive Salsoul Mixes 3Cd
Steveh73 replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
Got mine last weekl and a constant fixture on yhe car stereo, despite having most of the tracks on 12 inch vinyl. An excellent compilation and, unlike many that cost more than the paltry £8.99 charged here, nice, crystal-clear sound. Which leads me onto a question about the Salsoul label in 1980 - out went the likes of Double Exposure and Loleatta Holloway and in came the likes of Inner Life and Logg. All equally excellent, and Salsoul did a much better job of coping with the emerging boogie-sound than Philadelphia International but why such a complete reinvention?: -
Hi - I am sure I have a spare UK 7 of this for a fiver if you'd like it - just let me know!! Thanks,Steve.....
