  1. hi all just heard on the local news, they are gonna pull the winter gardens down..... too many of my memories are in there for them to do that...... this is in aid of yet more progress... I love it there... met and many friends over the years there, from the pier and the gardens... some of whom are no longer with us, cant let em pull it down....
  2. Congrats on getting the part Mr B you have campaigned long and hard for that since we first heard about it ..... Are we sure it was Kev Roberts and not Dawn Roberts, I reckon that was a typo error on their part
  3. Has anyone on here ever run a local nite with a live web cam link? One of our local pubs has just started doing it when they have local bands etc on. I have never seen one advertised anywhere for a northern do though.
  4. Well Mr B I for one am gonna miss you contributing on here and also your sets around the country. Mentors like yourselves are needed on the scene for both the young and the old whom are into all things northern. But like you say you need time now to take stock of the things that are important, especially your health (trust me I'm a nurse) I will be up to see you shortly (as promised) for the radio show, and be prepared for plenty of emails wanting info etc on sounds that you play. No doubt when you are ready again, we shall still be here arguing about issues, taking the mick out of dodgy ebay sellers and generally lovin the soul as much as you do, So will welcome ya back with open arms. Oh Mr B, one more thing if ya need someone to look after those record boxes full of the lovely black stuff til you're up to spinnin again Can I have first refusal You take care now bro Dawn xxxxxx
  5. Me too ... what a voice
  6. The music, the people, the atmosphere. Getting your groove on to a a haunting melody and heartbreaking lyric, nothing else like it in the world, being part of the best scene ever and meeting old friends, making new ones for life. The smell of baby powder, old vinyl, mixed up with a dash of cigarette smoke and alcohol.... Awesome.
  7. True Soul Legend. Never be forgotton
  8. Get to hear a fair few in the ones we go to as well Mike, Re the "modern/crossover" plays coming over into the northern rooms, I think its cos we like em to mature a bit, like a vintage chedder
  9. This is going Massive... Sam does it again.... all the crossover needed for the northern room, gonna be bigger than Troy me thinks, buy yourselves a copy the price has already gone up in some places (venues)
  10. Its amazing... love the Joyce Taylor one too, and the rest.... never gonna be rich
  11. WOO HOOO....... after every record finished and half way through the chuffing muppet, never again. Also another one that takes the vinyl off if the dance floor is empty and says "ya didn't like that one then"
  12. it had the same effect on me Andy, I will post this one up, no music but what it was all about and how people must have felt when these words were spoken by Russ. For more live venue clips and sounds go to the hinkley soul club website places listed are the palais, the torch, the casino etc etc. Great site this one and have some crackin sounds
  13. Got to have these three as well Pete
  14. Amazing.....
  15. one that gets time and time again plays on the turntable in the living room at the moment has to be Terry Ronald's What the child needs... Its the darkside for this retro girl I know, but its bloody brilliant love it to bits....
  16. Paul Smith.. designer... Paul O'Grady too... Mark Almond was before he dissed the scene and had an emergency stomach pump at A and E.... Jules Holland too has professed a liking for northern
  17. First exposure for me was a full all nighter at Lincoln Dril Hall in the 7'ts and the one that moved me most and the first soul record I ever bought was as it was known then "The early morning call" at 6am Holly St James and Thats not Love ... still brings back that first time for me... and now I spin it with pride....
  18. I love it... reminds me of "back in the day" my age group certainly remember stuff, people, incidents like that... this is top notch stuff with an excellant sound track... 10 out of 10 for this one...
  19. Hey Paul, that means he is after a review now ya know
  20. 'Ere I do a fair bit of dancin' but then not top name dj..... YET
  21. Influences? Mine have to be from the halcyon days of the pier at Cleethorpes the palais at Nottingham and of course the all nighters at Lincoln Drill hall... Djs... Mary Chapman, Soul Sam, Rick Scott the latter two now have gone to the "Darkside" of soul but still must have the ultimate collection of "Oldies" .... From the days at the palais mr golden voice himself, Rob Smith... whom every set he played had me dancing, and his comments about every track being "available" at his record stall at the back of the room... some of the best 50p's and quids I have ever invested in.... Friends past and present that continue to be part of the great northern scene and whom make it what it is are the best influences to have.....
