  16. lets hope then not many paid for this... it was posted yesterday 13/03/08 Pontins future unsure amid takeover talks Mar 13 2008 by Kelly Fenna, Daily Post THE future of a North Wales holiday camp was uncertain last night amidst talks of a takeover. Pontins in Prestatyn Sands has this week temporarily closed its doors while talks about a national take-over bid take place. Call centre staff said the closure at Prestatyn was due to an overload of events, but gave assurances the camp will re-open in time for Easter. Last night it emerged the holiday chain is in negotiations with a "potential business purchaser" to sell it off as a going concern. Bosses say business will continue as normal and the move will not affect staff or customers. Set up by Sir Fred Pontin in 1946, the chain, with seven camps across the UK, has already passed through many hands. "Prestatyn Sands is one of our more popular holiday camps," a spokesman said. "If Pontins is sold, there will be no impact on staff or events." Pontins would not reveal the name of the buyer interested in the firm but said sites will continue as normal. A question mark still hangs over the deal and some customers said they have lost their confidence after another resort disappeared off the company website and brochure. One couple, who have events booked at Prestatyn up to March 2009, said: "We have lost our faith in Pontins. "Over the years we have seen customers being messed around - one event was moved from Brean to Southport and nobody was even notified. "The way that the Devon camp just disappeared off the map makes me wonder if the same will happen to Prestatyn. I worry that those who have made bookings will be the ones who lose out." Prestatyn councillor Michael German said: "Pontins in Prestatyn has been part of the area for decades - any plans to close it or change its use will be rigorously opposed. "We cannot afford to lose any more tourist attractions in North Wales, I hope the takeover is not a get-rich scheme." A Pontins spokesman said: "Pontins has been approached by a potential business purchaser and negotiations are taking place to sell the company as an ongoing concern. "This will not affect current staffing or events." kelly.fenna https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wale...55578-20614732/ So doors are closed now by the looks of things. So I wonder if Southport is the next move for the weekender then???
