  1. Easily the greatest Soul LP of all time any style any era ... "WARM & SOULFUL" GARNETT MIMMS (UK UNITED ARTISTS)
  2. Prefer the version by the Harvey Averne Dozen on their LP !!!
  3. Sebastian, I think I have it on an Aussie 45 , I used to know exactly what I had in my vaults , but like yourself - I have too many records for my own good after all these years , and so I'll have to go digging in my boxes ....
  4. Not Aussie I can assure you . The rare Aussie EP you're thinking of is the one with Jackie's version of Open To The Door To Your Heart
  5. Many worthy nominations but ... I've said it before, and I'll say it again, DAVID RUFFIN was the absolute greatest by a mile ! Both as a VOCALIST and PERFORMER ! As a vocalist he could tackle literally ANY style of music (soul funk r'n'b country etc) , and he could croon and do show tunes too like Jackie Wilson ... As a performer he was as agile and athletic as James Brown and Joe Tex , and he had all the moves with the Temps. Just look at some of the videos on this site with Ruffin in them ! Marvin , great as he was , wasn't much of a dancer and by his own admission felt uncomfortable doing gritty RnB as on his earliest hits. As we all know Marvin wanted to be like Nat King Cole ! There were absolutely no limits to Ruffin's talent ... his only problem was that he knew it too , he had a massive ego ..... still, he was the best !
  6. ,theyre my records i own,all originals, Anybody else agree Ken
  7. Hi Gene , good to hear from you again ! ... when are you going to come Down Under for the Oz National Soul Weekender ?
  8. Pete , I think that deep down you enjoy all the attention no matter who it comes from even if it's some twat like this guy, I mean, you've made over 6,0000 posts on this site - DON"T YOU HAVE A LIFE ? !!!
  9. Perhaps Adey Croasdell can enlighten us a bit more on Bert ... Why ? Well Bert gets credits on quite a few of those loungy anonymous instrumental soul LP's that RCA issued in the late 60's , and then by about '69 / 70 or so he started having his greatest successes with the Main Ingredient .. which has me thinking that perhaps Bert by this time was a salaried staff producer / arranger at RCA ... so since Adey and the Kent guys did those two fantastic CD's of RCA stuff a few years back , maybe Adey has some info on Bert ???? The other thing is .... Bert doesn't appear to ever have had his own production company / set up and seemed to either collaborate directly with other writers like JR Bailey (was Bert part of "Dish A Tunes " publishing?) or work as a staffer at major labels because he then went on to work on hits in the mid 70's for Atlantic artists like Sister Sledge and Ace Spectrum .... Whatever the case .. one thing is undeniable , anything Bert was involved in was always very soulful and very classy !
  10. Just buy the "Free Angela" LP that has it, which also contains the Dickie Wonder biggie !
  11. Of course it is ! The yellow and red is the ORIGINAL for god's sake !!! Ken , what on earth are you on, mate !
  12. But Ken , scans of both yellow discs have already been put up ! The pictures aren't dubious at all ! And why do you say one is " 4 numbers later" ? They BOTH have the SAME number release "1014" . As Pete Smith says - it's very simple - the one with legend in red is the ORIGINAL ! Your one with Legend in black is a boot !!! Why so hard to work out ? Cheers mate !!!
  13. Well , I should modestly call myself a "small gun" !!! I have both the yellow bootleg and the yellow original. The yellow one with LEGEND in RED is a 100% ORIGINAL But yours Ken, the yellow one with LEGEND in BLACK is a 100% BOOT !!! No comment about the green styrene ....
  14. Me too, always preferred "Some Call It Love" rather than "Manifesto"
  15. Thing about the Tams is that even in their hey day in the 60's they all looked liked they were aged well into their 40's !!!! Great group though !!!
  16. And I've just been listening to Percy Faith's Black Magic Woman LP from the mid 70's , a full on latin funk fest !
  17. Absolutely correct, Bert is every bit as as important to the history of soul music as the likes of Van McCoy, Bert Keyes, Carl Davis etc. I would love to know a bit more about his life !!!!!!!
  18. Really need a copy of this Vibrations 45 on Mandala from 1972. Anyone please help !
  19. Surely a candidate for the greatest Latin influenced Soul / RnB record ever played on the soul scene is: " Call On Me" : Bobby Bland Old timers from the Wheel tell me this was a massive favourite at the time, made all the more surprising because it was played as an import, it was never released on a UK Seven !
  20. Was this EVER on a 45 ? Is it my imagination, or was it Mr Levine or some other person of notoriety on the scene, who had a (legitimate) acetate of this on a seven ?
  21. The version of Out On The Floor on the soundtrack and in the film is an extended version inasmuch as it stops dead at the close instead of a fade out !!!!!!!!!!!
  22. When was this first played on the Scene and at what Venue ?
  23. Cheers, thanks for the info ! Great record, even if it does sound a bit like an out take from the TV series the Love Boat !!!
  24. Yeah Pete , I have on video the great original 60's performance Dobie did in the movie "Out of Sight" from '66, in colour it was too ! In Oz, the Festival label issued a rare 45 with that movie's theme tune as by the Nick Venet Orchestra !!! Shame I'm computer illiterate , so I can't post Dobie's clip
  25. I've always owned Mel Carter "Love Test" on an Airwave 12" but it just occurred to me that I've never seen it on a 7" ??? Was it EVER issued on a 7" ??? And what's the current value please ???
