  1. Bearsy old son, shouldn't that be "IVY Joe Hunter" , the Motown writer and sometime artist ... who was a completely different guy to the black country/blues legend Ivory Joe Hunter ? Must have been a heavy weekend over there in the UK with people thinking it was New Orleans RnB legend Maurice Williams performing Classical Gas (see other thread) , not pop guitarist Mason Williams.....
  2. A great but long forgotten double sider from this blue eyed rock n soul man ! I actually want it for Wait A Minute side which is absolutely the sound for today's dancefloors ! Must be on the rare Sunlight US 45, (not Starfire or UK issue) ! Cheers!
  3. The best and rarest way to own this classic is to have the Australian original 45 demos only on Aussie Monument !!! And the Australian copies all play without the notorious skip in the break that is often found on the US copies. I have one for sale , it's VG+ , 120 UK GBP Anyone on here can feel free to PM me !!!
  4. Lil Willie West "Don't be ashamed to cry" Frisco £60. P&P extra. Chqs prefered from UK buyers. Paypal overseas. cheers, derek
  5. Would one say that George Benson is a soul singer ?
  6. BUMP !!! Still after these ! Anyone ?
  7. Template for 9T's girl groups, Jo ? Surely only ONE template for ALL girl groups any style, any era ... a little trio of girls called the Supremes !!! LOL
  8. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirsty, any chance of a soundclip of the Crusaders please ?
  9. Tone, I'm sure Blues & Soul did a little piece on her around the time of the release of her LP in '69/'70. John Abbey seemed to be a particular fan of anything Swamp Dogg was involved with. I would imagine that you have early Blues & Soul issues from that time (I could dig mine out of storage if neeed be)?
  10. Great to see Dave giving that Popcorn Wylie LP on ABC "Extra Sensory Perception" some exposure, utterly fantastic LP
  11. Which makes it all the more amazing that "Call On Me" got a 45 release in Australia on the "W & G" label in 1964 !!! And then W & G also found a way to release Donald Jenkins and the Delighters "Somebody Help Me" as well !!!
  12. With the greatest respect, what a silly comparison ! Smokey IS soul , Dusty was a folk singer who went on to have some pleasant soul influenced pop hits. There was a thread on here some time ago as to whether falsetto male singers were soulful. Let me throw some names at you: Eddie Kendricks Curtis Mayfield Russell Thomkins (Stylistics) Ron Banks ( Dramatics) Ted Mills (Blue Magic) Eddie Holman Moorer Brothers (Esquires) Eugene Record (Chi Lites) and so on and so on .... and then I recommend that anyone who considers themselves a soul fan really should read Barney Hoskin's book :"Say It One More Time For the Broken Hearted" to get an insight into how the great gospel legends influenced secular male soul vocalising , particularly falsetto singing ...
  13. YES, without a doubt ! 1 Dells 2 Temptations 3 Impressions
  14. OK , a little quiz here, everybody knows or should know, the Magic Touch by Bobby Fuller issued on Mustang, and then Melba Moore's unreleased version which was dug out of the vaults and catapulted into the northern soul hall of fame ... But does anyone know of another quite tasty version released as a seven by another artist on a relatively well known US label in the late 60's ?
  15. Tone , any luck on your research on the Promises LP?
  16. Pete, just curious, what do you do if you're emailing / corresponding with buyers in a completely different time zone , say 10 hours difference, so you email someone and say get back to me "straight away" and it's 2am in the morning in their time zone and they're fast asleep when you email them and then for very practical reasons they don't even get to sit at their computer to respond until 10am when they're at work or whatever ... and so 8 hours have passed since your email etc etc etc you know what I'm getting at ......
  17. Well Tone, the Turner Bros and Moses Dillard definitely exist as a couple of copies of each of them have surfaced for sale on ebay in the past 12-18 months (and I'm sure they're listed in popsike.com) ... as has the Roger Hatcher ... And as for the Promises, I'm going on information contained in sleeve notes to a CD that was issued on Brunswick/BRC girl-soul groups that came out some years ago that included a Promises track and then went on to state that the company issued an LP on the girls ! OK, sleeve notes are not always 100% correct but I thought I'd try to prompt a response from people like your good self who could possibly shed some some light. It's the Odds and Ends LP that intrigues me because I have seen a Today LP label discography which has definitely allocated a release number to that LP. I have posted a topic on Soul Source a few times asking for info on this but surprisingly had no response ... sadly the northern scene with its focus on sevens is still lagging well behind, it would appear, in appreciating rare soul LP's. Previous posts on Soul Source regarding LP only tracks have only touched the surface, it really is an untapped source ... I've also asked on here before for someone to provide a full LP discography for the All Platinum/ Stang/Turbo etc family of labels but again not one response .... By the way I should also have included the Brief Encounter LP on Sound Stage 7 in the wants list ! Anyone ?!!!
  18. Odds & Ends (Today) Promises (BRC) Topics (TSG) Ultimates (TSG) Moses Dillard & The Tex Town Display Gloria Barnes (Maple) Cleveland Robinson Cracksteppin (Get Down) Freddie Terrell & the Soul Explosion Jackson Sisters (Tiger Lily) Clydie King (Tiger Lily) Andrea Carroll (BT Puppy) Beverley Warren (BT Puppy) Roger Hatcher (Guinness) Turner Bros Go on , I know you've got 'em out there !
  19. No he's not mad, there's another really good fingersnapping track on the LP with loads of appeal to the northern scene, "dont let go " or something like that (can't be arsed to dig it out)
  20. Is it true that the Bobby Fuller Four's "The Magic Touch" on Mustang was actually played at Wigan - or elsewhere on the scene - back in the 70's or was that a "myth" that arose because Melba Moore's unreleased version later became so popular ?
  21. The Dramatics would be nice
  22. BETTY HARRIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just so happens that unquestionably one of the greatest female soul artists of all time , Betty Harris , will be performing in Melbourne during the Australian National Annual Soul Weekender from 16-19 November 2006. I'm Evil Tonight , Nearer To You , Cry To Me, Ride Your Pony etc all the classics ! She still looks stunning, and that voice is as sensational as ever , there's still time for you lot to book your plane tickets for Melbourne and enjoy 4 days of the greatest Northern Soul event outside the UK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Just received cdr of "Girl Don't Make Me Wait" - Darryl Hall. ............................ Sure it's not an Ian Levine tailor made ... ?
  24. Mr Smith, please don't ever think for one minute that the sterling efforts you put into sourcing and posting these rare film clips is not being appreciated by your fellow soul source members ! Keep 'em comin' !
  25. Ho Hum ... same old ... same old paranoia .. the average age of your average soul fan ... what are your records gonna be worth in x years ... falling attendances ...
