  1. Classic modern soul tune ... all the more pleasurable because very little footage exists of this great group ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HJFqqaleYU
  2. In Australia the 45 didn't come with a Picture Sleeve but there IS a dog rare Australian CBS EP with Stranger In My Arms with a fantastic picture of Lynne on it !!!
  3. Sunnysoul replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Think Ady Pountain should be back on the scene and DJ-ing regularly rather than just making the very rare appearance now and then !!!
  4. You have mail
  5. Virtually every dealer and collector on the planet has for the last 20 years tipped this for a revival ! Every bit as good as the Kings of Soul , IMHO !
  6. Paul , if they got deported to Australia I have no doubt they would regard that as a right result !!! Especially now with a thriving soul scene Down Under which they could exploit Not to mention 30 celsius plus heat , palm trees , sun surf and soul and an unbeatable cricket team !
  7. Mike , please kindly repeat for me the idiot's guide to posting clips correctly ? I'll get it right one day !
  8. The Lou Rawls clip inspired me to throw this one on , think Brenton was revelling in the presence of so many Playboy bunnies !!!! And listen for the quick handclaps in the middle break !
  9. Fantastic ! And from the Playboy After Dark vaults too ! (see Marva Whitney earlier on Soul Source) For a while now I've been gathering info on the Playboy After Dark TV shows and have a list of every performance/performer throughout the run of the series on US TV ... (I'm waiting for a mate to return from the US with a DVD collection of the complete series !) ... the series only had limited syndication in the US because many networks refused to run it due to the obvious connections with the adult industry and many TV executives were afraid that it would affect their sponsorship from advertisers ... Anyway, there were quite a few excellent appearances by soul artists as we 've already seen but the most tantalising one is surely the episode listing Kelly Garrett as performing 'Love Is The Only Answer' !!!!!!!!!!!!! Any chance you can source further Playboy episodes to be able to post that Kelly Garrett (I don't expect the DVD's to arrive for several months) ???
  10. Can someone please post a clip of UK 60's soul group The Gladiator's version of the Fantastic Four's "As Long As I Live" on UK Direction and provide some info on the group (personnel , discography etc) ? Thanks in advance !
  11. Don't worry Baz, I'm with you all the way on this ! Of course she IS a rather good POP artiste though, but I emphasise the word POP here ... I mean , by all means lump her in the mainstream commercial pop femme category of Madonna Gwen Stefani Pink etc etc she's no different to them ... ... but really, anyone who thinks Amy is "soulful", well they haven't really heard the likes of Betty Harris Doris Duke Etta James Anne Bennett Nesby ad infinitum have they ? Next subject please !
  12. If I said "WHAT A VOICE" I would be preaching to the converted , wouldn't I ? And now actually seeing footage of Ray, I am intrigued how he would have been perceived by audiences back in his performing prime with the disability concerning his arm ... obviously made no difference judging by this video. Which is why it would also be interesting to see some original 6T's footage of Walter Jackson as I've read (and seen photographs) of him performing on stage with crutches due to the fact that he suffered from polio as a child. Haven't been able to source any footage of Walter Jackson to date, are you aware of any Pete?
  13. They're young but enthusiastic , i'll give 'em that much !!! But it's a nice clip ! And it's always been a good dancer, what does it go for on Fontana then , Pete ? Also glad to see you're posting vids again Pete, the members on here apppreciate them a lot more than you might think
  14. I think you've gotta cut Miss Ross a bit of slack here, if she sounds a bit croaky , it's probably because she is doing the Letterman show absolutely LIVE and stone cold, and presumably this was the only song she performed that night ... So even a seasoned pro like her has to be given a chance to warm up a little bit. As I say, I haven't heard her recorded studio version on her new CD ...
  15. That's the one Malc, I haven't dug out it out of the vaults in ages , but I seem to recall it has one other tune on it with some Northern dancefloor appeal hasn't it? If nothing else it's a great LP to look at , Barbara was a stunner ! Former Playboy Pet wasn't she !
  16. Barbara McNair does a strange manic fast version on her Audio Fidelity album from the late 60's ...
  17. That's right , not a UK chart hit , but , without digging out my old Blues and Soul's from '69/70 , I seem to remember off the top of my head that it was prominently listed in the B & S's charts of popular sounds at the time and I suspect it was a popular dance floor sound with the UK soul faithful at the Wheel etc ? Did they appear in the UK at the Wheel ? Or was it a few years later on the back of "Starting All Over Again" ?
  18. yeah ken , my "bandwagon" comment was tongue in cheek of course , she does the tune pretty good , though I haven't checked out the official CD studio version yet ...
  19. Diana finally jumps on the Northern Soul band wagon with a "tailor made" version of the Spiral Starecase What d'ya think ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI3wVJ-azAM
  20. 25 or 30 quid about right for a US original but at least 100 for an original Aussie only RCA issue which has a superior take to the US version. Did it get a UK release?
  21. Love Test : Mel Carter Music of Passion : Percy Larkins What Gives You The Right : Tommy Tate Freeway To Monterey : Arnold McCuller Uphill Climb : James Govan Galveston Bay : Lonnie Hill Angel : David Sea I Dont Play That : Shirley Brown Where Is Love : J Blackfoot You Blew It : Mad Lads Bring The Beef Home To Me : Trudy Lynn What Its All About : Veda etc etc etc ... all still sound pretty good to me ! But perhaps a bit too soulful for today's 60's crowd Perhaps a bit too early 80's sounding for today's modern soul crowd And perhaps a bit too "down home" for today's Year 2K soul crowd (the kind of people who actually think tunes like Tribute to Betty are soulful )
  22. If you look at Dave Rimmer's site for the Golden Fleece discography you'll see that "Stop and Think" was allocated an actual release number, the last release on the label. I started a thread last year on this and asked whether anyone had ever seen the actual 7" release on vinyl in the USA. So maybe your acetate is the only legitimate appearance of the track in the USA. I suspect that as Golden Fleece was a CBS distributed company and the Trammps were label hopping from Buddah to Golden Fleece (CBS) then on to Atlantic for mega stardom with Disco Inferno, that CBS just let Golden Fleece go under while the Trammps moved on , and so the final release never made it to the presses. How different is the intro ? Can you post a clip of it ? Either way, great record is Stop and Think, and lead vocalist Jimmy Ellis , is unquestionably one of the greatest SOUL vocalists who ever lived, and it's a shame the Trammps are often dismissed as just a disco act. I'll have the acetate Tubbsy if you want to sell it
  23. Even I'm amazed at finding this one ! Never thought I'd ever get to see actual footage of this Invictus label act ! The line ups of the lesser Invictus & Hot Wax acts were so often mysterious and changing. Think Freda's sister Scherrie Payne is in this one ... Superb, Detroit Soul !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tW6ytgzAa0
  24. Don''t know what fellow soul sourcerers thoughts are
  25. Sunnysoul replied to dob's topic in Record Wants
.... and apparently they are different versions too, are they not ?
