  1. Rowley, the Belgian Popcorn scene, and the Beach Music scene in the Carolinas (US), have never claimed to be exclusively soul or RnB movements. They simply play the music that they like to hear , a lot of which does happen to be soul or RnB, but you're right, there's also a hell of a lot of very twee pop rubbish played . Of course the northern scene has suffered the pop curse at various times but remains overwhelmingly a "soul" scene.
  2. 41. BEL-AIRS - I GOT THE FEELING (Palmer) Bit of a powerhouse dancer but the lyrics could have been written by a 5 year old. I bet some cnt has paid £200 For this cos it's on Palmer. (1) ................................................................ Yes I pretty much agree on everything Pete ... and it should also be said that you certainly have a way with words !!!!!!!!!
  3. Anyone know another 6T's version of I'm Gonna Run Away From You by a UK girly simply known as Antoinette on Pye I believe ? I have it amazingly on an Australian Astor 7"
  4. Thanks for that Simon. Great tune IMHO although I suspect it seems some are negative towards it because it was played by said Mr Levine .
  5. Can someone kindly post a sound clip of this tune please ? Thanks in advance !!!
  6. Glad you raised this because, of the available information over the years concerning the alleged common link between the Volcanos / Moods / Trammps , NONE of the sources precisely identify the actual personnel movement between the groups and no one has ever offered some sort of family tree . I think the link was first mentioned in Tony Cumming's landmark book "The Sound of Philadelphia" (1974) . Dave Rimmer's web site sadly carries no info on the Volcanos. I'm beginning to think that the link consists of nothing more than the legendary Philly session musos Ronnie Baker Norman Harris & Earl Young who played on so many sessions in the city from the mid 60's right through to the late 70's. Gene Faith was the Volcanos lead but the lead on the Moods sounds nothing like him and Gene certainly didn't go on to become one of the Trammps. Perhaps one of those US published Doo Wop / RnB vocal group books carries some info ? Anyone ?
  7. On this topic , I have only two words to say, and they are ... DAVID RUFFIN !!!
  8. Bizarre but great psychedelic colour clip of Georgie Fame from 1969 with his super version of this RnB classic ! Judging from the expression on his face, Georgie's either totally embarassed at his clobber or thinking of having a drink with all the female go go dancers aafter the show !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYbyunrkVC0
  9. Well before my time, but they tell me this was a Blackpool Mecca new release spin, right ? Whatever , great footage from the girls on Dutch Top of the Pops !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW-a4rftEKs
  10. Yeah Pete, my ultra rare Australian Wand copy of the Moods in exc+ condition is hereby available for sale at 100 UK GBP . Soul sourcers are welcome to PM me !!!
  11. What's that Reids World label LP with a girly soul group (just can't think of their name right now ) that goes for silly money whenever it's offered on ebay ??????
  12. Has anyone mentioned Jerry Washington's "Don't Waste My Time" (Glades) ??? !!!
  13. In a modern soul frame of mind today ! Here's Gladys and the boys with their super version of the Ashford & Simpson classic ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl5gw78keOA
  14. Classic modern soul tune ... all the more pleasurable because very little footage exists of this great group ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HJFqqaleYU
  15. In Australia the 45 didn't come with a Picture Sleeve but there IS a dog rare Australian CBS EP with Stranger In My Arms with a fantastic picture of Lynne on it !!!
  16. Think Ady Pountain should be back on the scene and DJ-ing regularly rather than just making the very rare appearance now and then !!!
  17. Virtually every dealer and collector on the planet has for the last 20 years tipped this for a revival ! Every bit as good as the Kings of Soul , IMHO !
  18. Paul , if they got deported to Australia I have no doubt they would regard that as a right result !!! Especially now with a thriving soul scene Down Under which they could exploit Not to mention 30 celsius plus heat , palm trees , sun surf and soul and an unbeatable cricket team !
  19. Mike , please kindly repeat for me the idiot's guide to posting clips correctly ? I'll get it right one day !
  20. The Lou Rawls clip inspired me to throw this one on , think Brenton was revelling in the presence of so many Playboy bunnies !!!! And listen for the quick handclaps in the middle break !
  21. Fantastic ! And from the Playboy After Dark vaults too ! (see Marva Whitney earlier on Soul Source) For a while now I've been gathering info on the Playboy After Dark TV shows and have a list of every performance/performer throughout the run of the series on US TV ... (I'm waiting for a mate to return from the US with a DVD collection of the complete series !) ... the series only had limited syndication in the US because many networks refused to run it due to the obvious connections with the adult industry and many TV executives were afraid that it would affect their sponsorship from advertisers ... Anyway, there were quite a few excellent appearances by soul artists as we 've already seen but the most tantalising one is surely the episode listing Kelly Garrett as performing 'Love Is The Only Answer' !!!!!!!!!!!!! Any chance you can source further Playboy episodes to be able to post that Kelly Garrett (I don't expect the DVD's to arrive for several months) ???
  22. Can someone please post a clip of UK 60's soul group The Gladiator's version of the Fantastic Four's "As Long As I Live" on UK Direction and provide some info on the group (personnel , discography etc) ? Thanks in advance !
  23. Don't worry Baz, I'm with you all the way on this ! Of course she IS a rather good POP artiste though, but I emphasise the word POP here ... I mean , by all means lump her in the mainstream commercial pop femme category of Madonna Gwen Stefani Pink etc etc she's no different to them ... ... but really, anyone who thinks Amy is "soulful", well they haven't really heard the likes of Betty Harris Doris Duke Etta James Anne Bennett Nesby ad infinitum have they ? Next subject please !
  24. If I said "WHAT A VOICE" I would be preaching to the converted , wouldn't I ? And now actually seeing footage of Ray, I am intrigued how he would have been perceived by audiences back in his performing prime with the disability concerning his arm ... obviously made no difference judging by this video. Which is why it would also be interesting to see some original 6T's footage of Walter Jackson as I've read (and seen photographs) of him performing on stage with crutches due to the fact that he suffered from polio as a child. Haven't been able to source any footage of Walter Jackson to date, are you aware of any Pete?
