  1. Bumped this one in light of the pop soul video thread !!!
  2. Unquestionably one of the most exciting adrenalin producing intros in the history of popular music !!! Everything Mitch and the boys did was great !!! From Hullabaloo , dig the go go dancers !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRiQOgjZ0mo
  3. Amazing clip, I think Pete Smith has previously posted the more commonly available clip, but this is the rare one to see ... watch Roy go head first into a tumble off the stage ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pelRmnS9CGY
  4. Old timers from Casino days tell me this was massive !!! Soul or not this is brilliant stuff, it just has that irrestible feel and sound , don't it !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECsKjaIPwTk
  5. OK , bit of fun here, some pop soul sounds that have been popular with northern dancers over the years . The soul police can look away , let's have no debate on what is - or isn't - soul A classic from the boys !!! Lead singer looks like he's wearing a hair piece !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW4u9--hma0
  6. Well said by all the aforementioned posters as to playing the original LP everytime ... and let's hope those ignorant & lazy DJ's who always moan "I can't be arsed carrying LP's around" keep very quiet !!!
  7. Always wondered if there were any other dancers on the LP worth listening to ?
  8. What's the current value of this and what are the various Decca 7" US label variations. Was it a Wigan Casino record? Can anyone post a scan of her LP cover? I need to show a fellow soul collector that Lindy was a white country/pop singer !
  9. Exactly how many versions of this tune have there been ? Gladys Knight & the Pips (twice, different versions) Chuck Jackson The Originals The Dynamics Dusty Springfield Others ? Which was recorded first ? Which do you prefer ? I like Chuck's LP effort best ... (apologies if this topic has been done in the past)
  10. Denny , please let all Soul Sourcers know about that 'mythical' Otis Redding South African only LP that you are supposed to have , the one with the track Lovin By the Pound ?
  11. Sebastian , there's a great dancer by Merry Clayton from 1981 called "You Were Always There" that MCA recorded on her as a promo only 7" , I believe, to plug the the Get Smart Movie that Universal released in cinemas that year . And I'm sure it wasn't on her MCA LP either from around that time ....
  12. Looks like you're sorted with this one Tone. I was going to say you're welcome to "borrow" my copy so to speak, if need be, especially if you need it for research. Definitely a blue eyed artist of course, but it's a very creditable up-town early 6T's New York sounding disc, and he obviously was inspired by Ben E King's sound. Deep In the Heart of Harlem ? Sounds like an interesting project. Are you able to elaborate ? Hope Clyde McPhatter's absolutely epic LP "Songs of the Big City" on Mercury features prominently, one of the great soul / R n B LP's ever.
  13. The opportunity to see ANY footage of O V Wright is a special privelege ! This is SOUL music ! Live & kickin' late 70's in Japan I'd say ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXxbgETcPqY
  14. How good is this ! In 1982 the Stylistics were co opted to promote the nightly news on WCAU 10 in Philadelphia !!! Great stuff, watch this ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9Yeu8hA27A
  15. Ooops ,you're right Tone , but it was early morning hours when I was posting that up and the combination of lack of sleep and a drop (or several) of pure malt scotch was affecting my soul "memory" !!! And I had Lovelace's name in my head from the recent thread elsewhere too ! Lonnie Sattin had Who's Gonna Mention My Name on Scepter and others ...
  16. Super Scopitone clip of Della ... and correct me if I'm wrong ... but that's Lonnie Sattin ( of " Dreams " on Sue northern soul fame ) playing up to her . Great stuff !
  17. This fabulous record was ALWAYS destined to be a monster one day and it looks like that day is near !
  18. Roosevelt Grier also did a good version on ABC-Dunhill , is that the one you're on about Ken ? Also I'm sure the Dynamics did a version on Cotillion , and there's probably others too . This deserves a separate thread !!!
  19. Masqueraders is nice but the best version is by the Gentlemen Four on Sonday !
  20. Gasher, if it turns up in quantity , why will you "start to worry" ? I'm just curious as to the reason for buying the record in the first place , for the music , or because it's rare and then to sell on later ?
  21. Are any of you wondering if those morons at Sony have stumbled on to this website and this thread and realise what a veritable f-kcing goldmine they have sitting right under their noses ? I mean, how many years did it take the execs at Motown (US, not the UK rights holders) to cotton on to the fact that there was a huge hunger all around the world for the rare and not so obvious tunes ? I take it Sony have the rights to all the PIR and related labels, yes ? Or do Gamble & Huff own the stuff ?
  22. Keith, 12,000 miles away mate on the arse end of the world !!! 10 hours ahead of you !!!
  23. Not exactly Sammy Ambrose , is it !!! But Gary and the boys actually do a decent version and this was a hit for them after all ... Sammy's version went nowt ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuH6br9PNsU
  24. In light of the thread on great Philly tunes, probably a good time to post some visuals of one of the most inspirational records of all time from Gene McFadden & John Whitehead ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZOLkMe7fVQ
  25. The Soul Train performance of this was posted last year but this is David Ruffin on American Bandstand. Never tire of watching and hearing this ... one of the greatest soul tunes ever from the greatest ever soul singer (IMHO!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wzGaUeIZ30
