  1. https://youtube.com/watch?v=y6EgwGHMNKQ GC Cameron on Soul Train , at his absolute best on a super soulful Van McCoy tune, which Van did beautifully himself on his Soul Improvisations LP... Nice interview after too ... Magical !!!
  2. Would someone kindly put up some sound clips off this LP, I'm curious to see if there any quality dancers on this LP ? Many thanks in advance !
  3. Had that All Platinum various artists LP for a long time and always assumed that the Timothy Wilson track got a release ... and I never bothered to check the All Platinum singles release discography . I would be very surprised if All Platinum would throw an unreleased track on what is effectively a hits collection. It's a fantastic 70's dancer and if this LP is the only place on which it appears then watch out !!!!
  4. Wasn't his most popular record on the northern scene " Something Keeps Calling Me Back " , the flip of Pamela Pamela ?
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHros1Oy4Ng Deserves another look, with Wee Gee Howard up front ... the first hit incarnation of the group before LJ Reynolds joined ... and with Ron Banks of course. Check the amazing dance moves !!!
  6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV3_iMA-Ao8 Fabulous lead of Jean Terrell, this is a great modern soul mover from 1973, can see this taking off in the hands of the right DJ, great stuff !!!
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgH4iwZwGkk Not exactly Gene Chandler, but a fun version with two legends of black music gettin' down to it
  8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUZe8TLfKdY Great video of Esther, old Mecca regulars tell me this was massive as a new release ... Nice one
  9. Plenty been said on here about Amy ... she is a wonderful and talented POP MUSIC artiste ... but she has absolutely nothing to do with SOUL MUSIC .... there are other far more deserving true soul artists who deserve our space and attention on here .
  10. I vaguely remember reading an interview with Rod Stewart where he said that Long John made a pass at him once when they were both in Steampacket ....
  11. Tony, with the greatest respect, you're not seriously suggesting that there were barely 20 serious reggae collectors in the world in the early 70's, are you ? What about Australia, Germany , France , New Zealand, Canada , Japan etc around that time ? Must say I've always found it amusing that so many on the northern scene have for so long thought that the soul music collecting world has only ever extended as far as a few counties in England ! The old "two known copies" cliche that we so often hear !!! Amazing the number of record collectors I've come across Down Under in Oz for example who've amassed superb collections of soul music (and reggae too for that matter) over the last 40 years but who have lived their whole lives in virtual blissful ignorance of the UK northern soul scene !!! And frankly, they couldn't care less about the northern scene .... Which is why one can't help thinking that there really must be more than two copies of Frank Wilson somewhere in the world ... it's just that those who have them apart from Tim Brown and Kenny Burrel simply don't feel the need to trumpet it to the northern soul scene ...
  12. Spot on Sean, I have thought the same thing for many years, definitely the same tune, possibly even the same backing track.
  13. The Jimmy Conwell LP version of the tune is a more "modern" version (ie 70's sounding although still faithful to the original) but just as good as the Exits original. Prefer to play Jimmy Conwell when DJ ing. As for any re issue of the LP, over the years many collectors and dealers have in their sales banter often mentioned 're issues' or "bootlegs" of virtually all the various collectable LP's on Guinness such as Jimmy Conwell, Newban 1 & 2, Frank Dell, Roger Hatcher etc but I've NEVER ever seen a reissue or bootleg of ANY of those in 30 years! I'm happy to be corrected but I don't think ANY of the Guinness LPs have indeed EVER been re issued or bootlegged ... I've come to the conclusion that it's just an urban myth that there have been re issues/bootlegs of so many rare soul LP's. Unless , that is, the major "re issuer" Scorpio Records in the US has ever produced them (and they have done many by the way but none of the ones I just mentioned) ??? Or our Japanese friends ? But as I say, I'm happy to be corrected on this point . Perhaps Mr Manship can offer us his wisdom on re issued and bootlegged soul LP's ???? It's an area that needs a lot more experienced and educated comment. I WOULD like to have Mr Manship confirm whether for example whether the two Dysons Faces LPs really were re issued or bootlegged and if so how exactly do you tell the difference ??? And Gwen McCraes Melody of Life LP ??? Damn Sam the Miracle Man ??? Rhythm Machine ??? and so on and so on ... And lets not forget the clear distinction between a RE ISSUE and a BOOTLEG , reissue means a legitimate licensed second issue of an LP often with a company logo like Charly inserted on the sleeve design. A bootleg is a deliberate illegal, attempted note for note reproduction of the original LP ?
  14. By the way, Bunny Sigler's fabulous "Great Big Liar" (backed with the equally tasty "Where Do The Lonely Go") was without doubt the template for Gamble & Huff's "Backstabbers" for the O'Jays just a couple of years later. The chord progression of Great Big Liar and the dramatic stop start intro is virtually the same song structure as for Backstabbers. Can someone please post an MP3 of Great Big Liar , so everybody can see what I'm on about?
  15. I would LOVE to see and hear that !
  16. Well, Tony , please don't keep us in suspense , who were the artists and what were the titles of the tracks of the scheduled releases for 32, 33 & 35. If #33 is indeed the O'Jays Christmas release 45, I'm sure that that record was issued a few years later by Gamble & Huff on PIR when the O'Jays had become superstars - and it's well worth having for the flip "Just Cant Get Enough" , a fantastic mid tempo dancer off the O'Jays Neptune LP. The New Direction LP on Neptune is not a bad LP , yes, 5th Dimension inspired, but also containing some nice Latin flavoured movers.
  17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hC3uB5VEZc ANY footage of James Phelps is precious !!! And later of course he became the Chicago soulster of "Look On Your Face " fame ... Here he is with the Soul Stirrers in fabulous gospel stylee !!! ...
  18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSluU8jBeNM Chicago's finest from The Beat TV show, of course ... Maurice McAlister on lead , superb !!!
  19. Absolutely staggering !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest ever pieces of SOUL footage in existence, don't you agree ? Sadly , a little short, but Little Sonny's lead vocal, just brilliant !!!
  20. "not far off complete" ... Not trying to be smart here, but I have to ask the question nevertheless: Do you have a Frank Wilson ?
  21. Absolutely right John, the Invitations release is UK only and top draw up-tempo Northern and must surely be one of the hardest if not the hardest on the label, no? What would be its current market value ? One can only make an educated guess and surmise that they must have recorded the track in a UK studio while touring in the late 60's. Were they also not one of those groups that were falsely misrepresented by dodgy club promoters as being the real Temptations or Impressions ?
  22. Sean, off the top of your head, can you please tell me how many LP's Revelation released ? One or two on RSO and two on Handshake ? And which of them in terms of monetary vaue is the one that seems to go for a bit when it comes up on ebay ? Thanks in advance ...
  23. Oops , sorry Chalky !!! Was getting late, my time, and the malt scotch was playing tricks on my mind. My post has now been edited with the appropriate link !
  24. Absolutely fascinating to hear one of the greatest soulsters of all time being interviewed !!! Trust me, take the time to watch the whole interview .
