  1. SWEET THING : GEORGIE FAME !!!
  2. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/rare-northern...ven-blue-rock-0 Alcon Shades sound clip is here ...........
  3. One of US Bonds' last records on SPQR from 1965 , an up tempo track called "Sarah Jane" is a northern biggie waiting to happen. I'm surprised that it's yet to be picked up by the scene. Must be elusive as I've only seen demos ... on the rare occasions that I've seen it. By '65 he had left the twist sound behind and obviously decided to move with the times .
  4. JAMES PHELPS , numero uno!!!!
  5. They're both good ones, but surprisingly, the most interesting one is the MFP (Music For Please) UK cheapie LP release from the early 70's which had some superb previously unreleased Jimmy Ruffin tracks and the unbelievable "I Will Never Let You Get Away" which I think sneaked out later as a UK only 7" B side .
  6. Connie Stevens...TICK TOCK...Bell issue £150 EX An absolute monster in waiting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gasher, you should put up a full clip of the record for Soul Sourcers to listen to ...
  7. Ben E King rarest form is on a beaut Green & White Aussie Atlantic issue !!! Expect to pay a minimum 75 quid for one of these .... if you can find one for sale that is ...
  8. Need a nice condition US copy of this great Brit - Soul stomper
  9. Way too cheap !
  10. Apologies , no offence intended , yes Chris is a good man !
  11. How much was the James Mason 7 " ? About to break on northern dancefloors, including the equally brillliant flipside Free !
  12. Agree wholeheartedly with every one of those choices Tone, and I've always put in the same timeless category Otis Leavill's "Love Uprising" which for a '69/70 recording is still well ahead of the game .... I play that today and still people come up and think it's a new contemporary RnB release with its fat bass and sparse rhythm sound !
  13. Dave, have you ever asked yourself .... "does every soul collector and enthusiast in the UK and around the world visit the Soul Source web site occasionally .... or at all .... or even know it exists ? " As much as I love this site and live and breathe this site, I think you'll find the proportion of soul people who know about this site is sadly in the minority ......
  14. Chris Anderton , sold this on his last week for 100 UK GBP ............
  15. Paul, never really liked Daryll Pandy's house re-working of it, I thinked it lacked the warm , soulful touch of Ike's original. And now that the "in-vogue" sound of the northern scene at the moment is uptempo, busy (slightly) funky 70's tunes, I think Ike's original could become a popular northern record. OK , where are the UK label specialists ? Maybe there's a Demo on UK ABC (which distributed Hot Buttered Soul ) ???
  16. Always thought Isaac Hayes' "I Can't Turn Around" off his 1976 LP Chocolate Chip LP could be a big record on the northern scene, has all the ingredients, but was it released as a 45 in the US or UK or Europe ? Or is it LP only ?
  17. Don't Want Nobody : The Dells Fabulous uptempo 45 release off the Dells' LP on Private Eye records from 1984. Was quite popular as a modern track at Stafford mid 80's, if my memory serves me right ... And to double up on the soul power , the flipside of the Don't Want Nobody 45 is a brilliant deep tune called You Just Can't Walk Away !
  18. That should be Bill Head rather than Roy Head ??? It's on a Texas label where of course Roy Head recorded with Duke Records. Always wondered whether it is in fact Roy Head under an alias around the time he was in dispute with Duke. Doesn't the legend go something like Don Robey cheated Roy out of all the money made from Treat Her Right and Roy told Robey to get fcuked ...... (of course Robey cheated every artist he had!) . By all accounts , Roy Head himself was one mean hombre and took no sh?t from anyone, not even Robey ! Great gritty stomper anyway. I've been advised by the few people that know the record, that it is quite rare. So, what is it worth ?
  19. It's a surprise that the two records that Pete Smith says aren't cack are (nominally speaking) 70's/modern records !!! Will Collins and Reuben Howell !!!
  20. Mark , are these just playlists onn the various websites, or can we actually listen to soundclips of individual tracks and whole shows?
  21. Please can we have refosoul clips of the tracks mentioned in this thread ? !!!! You know, some of us live in far flung soul-less places outside of the UK scene and we don't have the means or access to buy or investigate these recent tunes Start posting please !!!
  22. I guess other big instrumentals (before instrumental - mania became silly) were things like King Errison "Zola" and of course the greatest northern soul instrumental of all Young Holt's " California Montage "
  23. Was speaking to some old timers from the Torch & Mecca days and they say that, in the early 70's, this Crusaders instrumental was one of the biggest sounds around for a time. This was a time, I guess, when the scene played quality instrumentals for their musical merit ... before things got silly a few years later. Anyone with any thoughts or memories of this Crusaders track?
  24. No mate, just being curious ! It's just that I'm in Sydney and this guy is "known" around the traps here , so to speak. The record collecting scene Down Under is much smaller and incestuous than in the UK .... I know you have excellent taste in music so was just wondering what you snapped up Did you get Aussie label stuff ?
  25. Sean, what record(s) did you get off him ?
