  1. Take My Love is on their first LP as well. Some fabulous non-45 dancers on both their LPs
  2. Steve, the Johnny Moore who recorded all those classic soul sides out of Chicago was a completely different person to the legendary Johnny Moore of the Drifters.
  3. Thanks for that BUT the cognoscenti have always seemed to say that the lead voice on Gotta Pay Your Dues just doesn't sound like Johnny Moore and that the group was in a state of flux at ths time ??????
  4. So much conjecture over the years on who sang lead on this classic northern dancer .... are we any closer to definitely knowing who it was?
  5. And every bit as good, if not better and for those obsessed with rarity, much harder to find.
  6. Mark, believe it or not, they even did a fantastic and rare LP on Checker , with More Love on it, and some staggering LP only tracks that would cause a storm on northern dancefloors !
  7. This all makes me feel like starting a new thread on Amy Whine - House .....
  8. Hi Pete ! The Blue "A" demos were introduced by EMI Australia in 1967 but the famous Red Bullet demo stickers continued to be used in Australia well into the mid 70's ... and sometimes demos were issued both with a Blue "A" and also with a Red Bullett !!! For example, I have two different Australian demos of David Ruffin's "Walk Away From Love" , one has the blue "A" and the other the Red Bullett !!! More than likely this was due to different pressing plants. Incidentally, the Red Bullett stickers weren't limited only to EMI Australia issued records. Astor (Australia) took over licensing of Motown in Australia from EMI in 1976 and for a few years continued to issue demos with the bulletts as well as the "A"s. Record collecting, don't you love it !!!
  9. Quite tasty , although listening to the vocal , I get the feeling I am listening to something Los Canarios or Unit 4 + 2 would have recorded circa 1971 !!!
  10. The Dennis Lee is a brilliant tune - so unusual and out of the ordinary in the best sense - and is also in demand with funk collectors for its flip Funky Penguin .
  11. Yes, I agree with all the aforementioned posts, a sealed original of that Curtis LP would easily fetch 50 pounds .. and more.
  12. You wanna see rare ? Have a look at the Australian issue of the Sapphires ! https://capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/AustralianListings.html
  13. Barry, if you want tro see the future just take a look at the post in the lookbacks section on last weekend's Baltic Soul Weekender ... 2,500 predominantly young people getting off on the whole spectrum of soul music
  14. Still going through my vaults to see if Donnie's "Along Came Pride" also came out on UK Direction or not ... for Sean and Tony's benefit anyway or it may well be just my imagination running away with me .......
  15. A fellow soulie has asked me to obtain for her a nice mint or ex+ condition original of this tune on the Philly City label - must be the US original not the UK Grapevine release. Thanks.
  16. Absolutely right , and the Deon Jackson LP on Solid Smoke is from where his previously unreleased version of Barbara Lewis' "I Remember The Feeling" emanates . The Van Dykes LP also contains "Save My Love A Rainy Day" , the only legitimate LP release of the track as it never appeared on their Bell LP.
  17. Bob, I think the word "crash" is an inappropriate one. "Crash" implies that the whole soul collecting world will implode in the space of a day or two, like the infamous stock market crashes ! That will never happen. Rather, the soul collecting market will just gradually fade away over an extended period of time, as our current generations move on into the next life ... The northern soul scene - in its present form - will almost certainly disappear at some point but the genre of soul music and soul culture in all their various forms will live on forever to inspire future generations. Truly great music like classical, blues & jazz music will always endure , and so will soul music, which is the greatest music of them all !
  18. I'm sure my copy of Donnie Elbert's "Along Came Pride" is on UK Direction
  19. Mossy, no one's twisting your arm. If you are afraid to bid, just don't bid. It's simple. Also not unusual for the original artists and behind the scenes people from the original era to be selling on ebay. For example, Lou Ragland himself was officially selling soul records (not his own recordings !) on ebay a few years ago !
  20. If you look at Tyrone Davis' biography , you'll see that he before he had his first commercial hit with Can I Change My Mind he cut some sides with West Coast record label owner and producer Wally Roker, who was the guy behind Canyon and Soul Clock , so one presumes that when Tyrone hit big maybe Roker flogged the Rudy Love tapes as being by "Tyrone Davis" ....
  21. The other rarer version is by Linda Queen on Rod.
  22. The Olympics and Bob Relf ARE the SAME tune ... they just happen to be different versions with different backing tracks and slightly different titles ... but they ARE most definitely one and the SAME tune.
